Abstract

The current conflict between Islam and Christian (west) originally rooted from the historical conflict which has happened for a long time ago. The conflict has been begun from the success of Islam expansion to western countries. The conflict has got worse when the west enables to move Islam domination in which it affected on the stigmatization on the followers. They discredited each other both in theology and other aspects. All conflicts, including Islam-Christian conflict is 'sunnatullah', something unavoidable, which bring both negative-destructive and positive-constructive effect. In fact, the conflict tends to be negative-destructive. Colonialism, which has been continually followed with missionarism and orientalism worsen the situation. This article discusses the implication of historical conflict on stigmatization done by the followers. Moreover, it tries to offer an alternative solution, that is, providing a dialogue as a bridge to resolve the conflict. It is expected to stifle the conflict and gradually to shift the conflict into a mutual understanding relationship.

Abstract

It cannot be denied that religion and science play im portant roles in human life. The development of science in this modern world does not automatically reduce the influence of religion in human life, as predicted by the secularization theory. The fact that religion and science tend to be firmer interests many people, especially concerning the relation between them. Many perspectives and religious doctrines that seem in contradiction with the theory of modern science may arouse a conflict behveen religion and science. The case of execution to Galileo by the church in the nineteenth century and the long debate between the supporters of the Evolution and those of the Theory of Creation are the real proofs of the conflict between religion and science. To avoid the conflict, many people have tried to find the most appropriate model of relation. In the contemporary era, the "new flow" discussion of religion and science emerges. The discussion not only focuses on the level of discourse but also implementation. Many studies of integrativeinterconnection between religion and science in Islamic tertiary educational institutions indicate the efforts to match religion with science.

Abstract

The Qur' an is the guide book for Muslims, not the scientific or philosophical book. It shows the right paths for the people who want _to succeed in their life in both this world and the hereafter. One of the content of the Qur'an is about the philosophy of science. This article describes the concept of the philosophy of science. It will elaborate the relationship between the philosophy and the philosophy of science in the beginning, and then the following part is the philosophy of science in the Qur'an. The discussion of the philosophy of science is always related to the matter of ontology, epistemology and axiology. The ontological aspect in the perspective of the scientific philosophy explains the essence of science. The epistemological aspect shows the ways to collect the knowledge, for instance, through the experience and thought. Finally, the axiological aspect discusses the way to implement the science in daily life, whether it is valuable or value free. The Qur'an since its first revelation of al-Alaq:1-5 has stated that science is very essential, some of them are developed by hard working (kasbi) or just given by God (ladunni). In addition, the Qur' an explains that the science can be achieved by the role of senses, brain, or intuition. Nevertheless, it is stated that the science is not value free. The science should be applied through the regulations which have been determined by the owner of science, the Almighty God, Allah.

Abstract

The Buginese and Madurese are well known as fierce sailors and are open-hearted ethnics in Indonesia. It seems that they have their typical characters and identities compared to the other ethnics in Indonesia. Their characters and identities become part of their life, including in economic, social customs or even when they immigrated to a new place. This phenomenology study tried to explain the behavior of Buginese and the people of Madurese who immigrated to Papua. The study also would seek to explore beyond migration of the Bugis and Madurese in Papua. This article was conducted in Papua to assess the patterns of migration and community interaction of Bugis and Madurese with other communities. The study findings revealed that Buginese and Madurese seem similar among others in terms of economic activity, mastery in the field of politics, and social role in the community. Besides, with their capacity, it has a role in religious activities which they always carry out in their environment. By not making it as a mission of deployment religious activities, but rather only to defend their religious understanding in a way that it would be limited just to the internal environment. It seems both the Buginese and Madurese firmly have a connection to the Islamic identity factors that are part of their religious expression.
