Abstract

The frequency of contraction is one of the mechanical activities of uterine smooth muscle contractions. Recording was done without and with 0,01 IU oxytocin stimulation entered into organ bath within uterine smooth muscle strips. The aim of this research was to investigate the effect of water soaked of fatimah grass (Anastatica hierochuntica L) on the frequencies of uterine smooth muscle contractions of rattus norvegicus Sprague Dawley at the estrous phase both in without and with 0,01 IU oxytocin stimulation This research was laboratory experimental with post test only control group design. The samples were 40 uterine smooth muscle strips rattus norvegicus Sprague dawley 10-14 weeks, 150 – 250 gr weight, on the estrous stages. The rats were divided into 5 groups. Control group was treatment by vehicle of solution (water), equivalent group was treatment by estradiol, and the others were treatment by fatimah’s grass 10 gr, 20 gr, and 40 gr that soaked into 350 cc hot water (70oC) during 12 hours. Twenty hours after treatment, rats were killed, and than uterine smooth muscle was removed and connected to chymograph to record the contractions. The data was analyzed by one-way Anova and the results showed that there was no significant differences in frequencies between treatment groups and control or equivalent groups on the uterine smooth muscle strips both in with and without 0,01 IU oxytocin stimulation. And then paired t-test results showed that there were significant differences between frequencies without and with 0,01 IU oxytocin stimulation at estradiol (p=0,032), RF10 (p=0.026), RF20 (p=0,001), and RF40 (p=0,027) groups. It could be concluded that water soaked of fatimah grass (Anastatica hierochuntica L) could increased the frequencies of uterine smooth muscle contractions of rattus norvegicus Sprague Dawley at the estrous phase.

Abstract

Having a Low Birth Weight (LBW) is one of the risk factors that may lead to stunting in children under five years old. An education program based on the Maternal and Child Health handbook (MCH) for the first 1000 days of a child’s life is one way to prevent the impact of stunting by improving the mothers’ knowledge and self-confidence to look after LBWB. The study is designed along the line of pre-post quasi-experimental research with a control group, involving 69 samples of mothers with LBWB that match the predetermined criteria. Twenty three of these mothers whose babies were cared for in the perinatology ward were provided with instructions from the MCH handbook, another group of 23 mothers received the same instructions with additional audiovisual media from a mobile application, and the remaining 23 mothers only received verbal instructions in the ward. The data were analyzed using the Paired t-test/Wilcoxon and Kruskall-Wallis tests. The analysis revealed that the MCH handbook based instruction provided a significant boost on the score of mother’s knowledge and confidence, before and after they have received the instructions, both in the group that received the MCH handbook based instruction (p<0.001) and the group that received their instructions from a mobile application (p<0.001). Additional instructions using audiovisual media from a mobile application also provided a significant boost to the knowledge score, and therefore the post-education score of the mothers in this group was higher than in the other two groups (p<0.001). Mother’s knowledge of the provision of care for LBWB can therefore be optimized through education, discussion, and the use of technology as an instructional medium to complement the use of the MCH handbook.

Abstract

Cardiac arrest is a major public health problem affecting thousands of individuals each year in both out-of-hospital and in-hospital setting. High quality of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) provide return of spontaneous after cardiac arrest, but majority of nursing students feel unconfident to practice CPR. The aim of the study was to assess the effect of CPR training program on knowledge and practices of nursing students in Yogyakarta. The study design was quasi-experimental and one group pretest – posttest design. A questionnaire was applied to the students before CPR training, then the student were informed about adult CPR by the researchers and all of the students practice CPR on a Resusci-Anne manikin. One months after this training the same questionnaire and skills checklist of CPR were applied. Sixty five students of nursing participated in this study. This study show CPR training significantly positive impact cognitive and skills performance in nursing students. While the average CPR knowledge score of these students was 44,43%, before CPR training, this average increased to 89,64% after CPR training and decreased to 77,54% after one month CPR training. Skill score of the students one month after the CPR skill training was 70,61%. Nursing students tend to forget theoretical and applied CPR training after one month. Hence there is a need for continuous CPR training and education and repeating the skills at regular intervals ever after they have graduated to ensure sustainability in the CPR skills.
