Abstract

Abstrack: Bribery is a sad phenomenon in Indonesian press. The practice refers to activities of accepting money, goods, vouchers, and other gifts, from a person or an organisation who act as source for journalist. Bribery is often considered as a common practice and institutionalised as a “culture” among media practitioners. The main reasons behind bribery are to maintain relationships or to add journalists’ income, as they are mostly not well paid. However, bribery is against the journalism ethics. It makes journalists professionalism somewhat questionable and threats public life since journalists responsibility in reporting the truth would be affected by such practices.

Abstract

Abstract : The present form and structure of mass media has become the most effective tool in the pursuit of globalization and hegemony of ruling elites. Consequently the mass media do not provide a space for people to participate in the process of production, which causes a gap between the mass media and people. Therefore the mass media cannot play a role in social change because it does not have roots within the people. To fulfill this gap, grass-roots people need alternative media which help them to be heard. One type of alternative media is community radio. This media started in the 1940s with the first community radio stations in Colombia and Bolivia. In Indonesia, this media started in 1990s. The existence of community radio cannot be separated from civil society movement.

Abstract

This paper examines how a novel Behind the Moon (2005) provides literary representations of an Asian migrant’s transforming sexual identities in Australia. Applying Morris’s concept of a “politics of surveillance,” it argues that approaches of strict control leads to an initial clash of cultures, and ultimately either to mutual transformation or a reinforcement of lack of agency/sexual difference. The analysis shows that the novel displays aspects of the cultural complexities of sexual identity formation regarding the character’s identity as an Asian homosexual in Australia. As to transformation setting, the city is a spatial metaphor for cultural confinement and surveillance.

Abstract

Abstract: This paper explores the issues of public relations academics credentials on teaching public relations at undergraduate level. Generally, most Asian universities look to the United States education system as the ideal model in developing their own curricula, and frequently invite American professors as visiting fellows to help set up their programmes. In addition, Asian universities, including those in Malaysia and Indonesia still harbour the view that the US offers the best public relations education and practices, and therefore follow the US model regarding any matters related to curriculum, study materials, teaching modules, learning resources and the structure of exam papers. Whilst seeming efficient, as the US leads the fields of public relations, it appears to be done blindly without considering such variables as the encompassing political, economic, legal, media and cultural factors of the society adapting these curricula that should determine the roles and functions of public relations practitioners in any given country. This paper concludes that US still offers the best public relations education in comparison to any Asian universities due to lack of academic credentials.

This article looks at how local daily newspapers, Suara Merdeka and Wawasan, built a narrative reports related to the clash by using Marie Gillespie’s narrative analysis model to see the structures. The analysis shows the narratives put fanatic supporters as citizen’s enemy. Interestingly, the narratives also depict fanatic supporters as “powerless” group who has to be rescued by the army or security forces, whereas in Europe, especially in Italy and the UK, supporters are strictly against themAbstrak: Pertumbuhan klub sepak bola di kota dan kabupaten di Jawa Tengah menyulut bentrokan supporter-suporter dan suporter-warga.
