Abstract

Premature infants, born with low birth weight, require specialized care and isolation due to their vulnerability to infections in public settings. Baby incubators, classified as life support equipment, play a crucial role in safeguarding these infants by maintaining a consistent temperature and humidity similar to the mother’s womb. This study compares the temperature control systems in baby incubators, specifically proportional and derivative (PD) control versus proportional and integral (PI) control. LM35 and DS18B20 sensors were employed in the study. Results from PD control using the LM35 sensor show a rise time of 5 min and 40 sec, a settling time of 25 min, and an overshoot of 2.2 °C. The DS18B20 digital sensor, under PD control, achieves a rise time in 6 min and 30 sec, a settling time of 23 min, with an overshoot of 1.2 °C. For PI control with the LM35 sensor, there’s a 3 °C overshoot, a 5-minute rise time, and a 30-minute settling time. The DS18B20 sensor under PI control exhibits a 2.7 °C overshoot, a 5-minute rise time, and a 29-minute settling time. PD control demonstrates lower overshoot and faster response but longer rise times than PI control. Future research explores fuzzy control systems and proportional integral derivative (PID)-fuzzy hybrid control.

Abstract

This research presents the development and evaluation of a three-position gearshifts remote control system for agricultural tractors, designed to improve operational efficiency and reduce operator fatigue. The system utilizes a programmable logic controller to remotely control a linear actuator, enabling seamless gear shifting between three predetermined positions. The primary objective is to provide operators with a convenient, ergonomic alternative to traditional manual gear shifting, particularly in challenging or confined working environments. The system was tested under two conditions: first, with a programmable logic controller controlling the linear actuator via a remote transmitter; second, with the system installed on an actual tractor and tested in a road scenario. Results from both tests demonstrate the system’s effectiveness in enhancing ease of operation, reducing physical strain, and maintaining gearshifts precision. The findings suggest that the remote control system offers significant potential for improving tractor operation, particularly for tasks requiring frequent gear changes or when working in difficult terrain. This research contributes to the ongoing development of automation in agricultural machinery, offering insights into remote control applications and the integration of electromechanical systems in agricultural vehicles.

Abstract

This study assesses the efficacy of an industrial and innovation antenna by scrutinizing its performance using simulations and an equivalent resistor, inductor, and capacitor (RLC) circuit model. By utilizing computer simulation technology (CST) modeling techniques, the antenna’s small dimensions of 37.75×31.75 mm2 are considered concerning the minimum frequency. The antenna functions at a frequency of 38 GHz, with a bandwidth of 11 GHz. It has a maximum gain of 8.875 dB and demonstrates excellent isolation (-27.627 dB) and efficiency (98.859%), respectively. By designing and simulating a comparable RLC circuit in advanced design system (ADS), we have confirmed the accuracy and reliability of the data acquired via CST. Both CST and ADS simulators yielded similar reflection coefficients. This antenna is a superb option for the 38 GHz frequency range in 5G wireless communication.

Abstract

In this research, we use several deep learning methods with the word embedding feature to see their effect on increasing the evaluation value of classification performance from processing sentiment analysis data. The deep learning methods used are conditional random field (CRF), bidirectional long short term memory (BLSTM) and convolutional neural network (CNN). Our test uses social media data from Netflix application user comments. Through experimentation on different iterations of various deep learning techniques alongside multiple word embedding characteristics, the BLSTM algorithm achieved the most notable accuracy rate of 79.5% prior to integrating word embedding features. On the other hand, the highest accuracy value results when using the word embedding feature can be seen in the BLSTM algorithm which uses the word to vector (Word2Vec) feature with a value of 87.1%. Meanwhile, a very significant change in value increase was obtained from the FastText feature in the CNN algorithm. After all the evaluation processes were carried out, the best classification evaluation results were obtained, namely the BLSTM algorithm with stable values on all word embedding features.

Abstract

This paper presents an industrial and innovation rectangular-shaped multiple input multiple output (MIMO) antenna designed for terahertz (THz) frequency applications, specifically targeting 6G communication. The proposed antenna achieves triple-band operation at 3.62 THz, 6.248 THz, and 7.613 THz by incorporating four T-shaped slots. It is designed on a polyimide substrate with a dielectric constant of 3.5 and a tangent loss of 0.0027, with dimensions of 80 μm by 180 μm and a thickness of 11 μm. The patch and the ground plane are constructed from copper, ensuring robust performance. The antenna provides bandwidths of 0.7 THz, 2.2 THz, and 1.1 THz, with isolation levels exceeding -31.3 dB. It achieves a peak gain of 14.3 dB and a high efficiency of 94%, demonstrating its potential for high-performance THz applications. MIMO performance parameters, such as the envelope correlation coefficient (ECC), diversity gain (DG), mean effective gain (MEG), and total active reflection coefficient (TARC), exhibit excellent agreement with theoretical values. The design is further validated through simulations using computer simulation technology (CST) and a circuit model in advanced design system (ADS). The results of these tests mirrored those of the CST simulations, confirming the reliability of future 6G THz communication systems.

Abstract

Incorporating information and communication technologies (ICT) in public organisations in keeping with digital government policies and access to ICT by citizens motivates public institutions to implement systems to provide better services to citizens. One of the most essential public services is the documentary process, which includes document management systems (DMSs) storing, organising, and managing the documentary flow. The acceptance and use of a DMS enabling digital signature in public institutions depends to a certain extent on a set of factors influencing user behaviour towards it. This paper reports the findings of a quantitative, cross-sectional, and correlational study examining the behavioural intention (BI) to use a DMS, employing three constructs of the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT). The research involved 998 workers from public institutions who participated in a survey, with quantitative data analysed using Spearman correlation. The results show that performance expectancy (PE), effort expectancy (EE), and social influence (SI) positively correlate with the BI to use a DMS and thus must be considered as relevant factors in DMS implementation in public institutions. The results provide relevant information to policymakers and DMS managers to promote the adoption of DMS in the digital transformation process that organisations are experiencing.

Abstract

Production processes in modern industry demand higher levels of quality and efficiency in their products. The “Hermanos Díaz” Oil Refinery Company of Santiago de Cuba, a fundamental pillar in the economic and social development of the eastern part of the country, has a chemical water treatment plant responsible for supplying processed water to the industry’s boilers. The current state of this plant supports the lack of optimal physical-chemical conditions in the water it delivers and, therefore, the gradual deterioration of the boilers. This work conceives an automation solution for the dosing, precipitation, and clarification processes of the chemical water treatment plant. Control systems were designed based on instrumentation proposals, enabling reliable measurements and practical actions. In addition, an algorithm of supervision and automatic control using a programmable programmable logic controller (PLC) is presented, making the plant capable of delivering a product in optimal conditions. Images were designed for local and remote process control using a human-machine interface (HMI) panel and a supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system. Finally, an automation architecture with a decentralized periphery is proposed to ensure safety and accuracy in the system’s decision-making through communication protocols.

Abstract

This article presents a monopole patch antenna, designed for operation in the W-band. The antenna is constructed on Rogers/RT 5880 dielectric material with dimensions of 3.4×4×0.16 mm³, a loss tangent of 0.0009, and a relative permittivity of 2.2. The initial design features a simple rectangular patch measuring 1.3542×1.0306 mm², powered by a microstrip line using an inset feed. To enhance the bandwidth and gain, two parasitic rectangular elements were added on both sides of the patch in addition to the incorporation of a circular ring slot with the ground plane. Further improvements in bandwidth and return loss were achieved by etching a hexadecagonal-shaped slot on the patch. Simulation results indicate that the optimized design achieves an impedance bandwidth of 28.54 GHz, ranging from 79.67 GHz to 108.21 GHz, centered at 88 GHz. The antenna also shows a maximum return loss of 59 dB and a voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) of 1.0022. The radiation pattern is directional, with a peak gain of approximately 8.57 dBi, and a maximum directivity of about 8.6 dB, as predicted by the computer simulation technology (CST) frequency-domain solver. These advantageous characteristics make the proposed antenna a suitable choice for point-to-point transmission applications.

Abstract

Even though it is considered a more traditional method compared to more modern algorithms, term frequency inversed document frequency (TF-IDF) nevertheless produces good results in a range of text mining tasks. This study assesses the effectiveness of several TF-IDF modifications for short text classification. Imbalanced datasets are another issue that is addressed in this research. To rectify the imbalanced issue, we integrate standard, log-scaled, and boolean TF-IDF in short text classification with undersampling and oversampling methods. Precision, recall, and f-measure metrics are used to evaluate each experiment. The best result is obtained when applying boolean TF-IDF with the oversampling method. Oversampling methods outperform the undersampling methods in every experiment, although there are some cases where experiments with undersampling methods are considerable. Additionally, our conducted study reveals that employing modified TF-IDF, such as boolean or log-scaled versions, provides greater advantages to classification performance, particularly in handling imbalanced datasets, when compared to solely relying on the standard TF-IDF approach.

Abstract

This paper presents the performance enhancement of a terahertz (THz) patch antenna using the metamaterials (MTM). The antenna design features a rectangular patch with a modified ground structure, implemented on an FR4 substrate with dielectric properties of 4.4, a tan (δ) of 0.02, and a thickness of 1.6 µm. Operating at 4.92 THz, the antenna exhibits a -10 dB bandwidth of 0.25 THz (250 GHz), catering to diverse biomedical applications. To investigate the impact of incorporating MTM, the proposed MTM is positioned beneath the antenna at a separation of 12.8 µm. A comparative analysis of the antenna’s performance with and without MTM reveals a significant influence of MTM insertion. However, the results confirm the big influence of the addition of the MTM. As results, the return loss was improved from -23.16 dB to -44.73 dB. The gain was additionally elevated from 1.46 dB to 5.06 dB. The design and simulation of the antenna were carried out through high frequency structure simulator (HFSS) software.
