Abstract

The two elements that are most favorable in the quality evaluation for phosphor-converted LEDs (pcLEDs) these days are the chromatic homogeneity and the lumen output. In this study, a thorough research on enhancing color uniformity and luminous flux of pcLEDs that have a high correlated color temperature (CCT) of 8500K is carried out. The scattering enhancement particles (SEPs): CaCO3, CaF2, SiO2, and TiO2 are used to accomplish the goal by adding them to a yellow phosphor compounding Y3Al5O12:Ce3+, and comparing their characteristics afterwards. LightTools program is used to build an optical simulation and Mie-scattering theory helps to examine the achieved results. Specifically, the parameters included in SEPs’ scattering calculation are the scattering coefficients, the anisotropic scattering, the reduced scattering, and the scattering amplitudes at 455 nm and 595 nm. The outcomes presented that compared to other SEPs, TiO2 particles can yield the highest chromatic homogeneity. However, the lumen output reduces considerably as TiO2 concentration greatly increases while it can be bettered when using SiO2 particles with any particle size. For CaCO3 particles, the color deviation of 620 K CCT can be reduced with 30% concentration, leading to the recommendation of using CaCO3 to promote the CCT homogeneity and luminescence efficiency.

Abstract

Automated lung cancer detection using computer aided diagnosis (CAD) is an important area in clinical applications. As the manual nodule detection is very time consuming and costly so computerized systems can be helpful for this purpose. In this paper, we propose a computerized system for lung nodule detection in CT scan images. The automated system consists of two stages i.e. lung segmentation and enhancement, feature extraction and classification. The segmentation process will result in separating lung tissue from rest of the image, and only the lung tissues under examination are considered as candidate regions for detecting malignant nodules in lung portion. A feature vector for possible abnormal regions is calculated and regions are classified using neuro fuzzy classifier. It is a fully automatic system that does not require any manual intervention and experimental results show the validity of our system.

Abstract

This paper presents the dynamic modeling and control of a two-link flexible robot manipulator. A dynamic model of the system is developed using a combined Euler-Lagrange and assumed mode methods. The most problems of a two-link flexible manipulator are vibration of flexible link and unpredictable payload additional. Previous researchers have discussed control methods for this system; few presented the effect of a payload profile. The simulation in this research is performed to assess the dynamic model and system responses at the hub and end-point of both links are presented and analyzed in time domains and show the advantages using radial basis function neural network (RBFNN) controller for solving flexible link vibration, achieve high-precision position tracking, and payload effect robustness. The results achieved by the proposed controller are compared with conventional PID to substantiate and verify the advantages the proposed scheme and its promising potential in control of a two-link flexible manipulator. It is shown that smaller overshoot, quickly steady state response and tracking performance of the proposed controller is good profile and better than PID controllers.

Abstract

Robotic autonomous telescopes provide highlevel control by selecting astronomical targets for observation, and they usually run under the control of a scheduler. TalonVIEW is a newly designed robotic autonomous telescope control system (TCS) for 16 inches telescope mount for use in astronomical transient events. The telescope control algorithm was implemented in PXI chassis written in GProgramming (LabVIEW) on realtime operating system(PharLab) from scratch. A new TCP/IP library was also implemented in Talon software to communicate with Pharlab in PXI chassis. Initial setup without any permanent pier and polar alignment showed that the pointing error of the telescope has been obtained as 2.22 arcminutes (132 arcseconds) in RA axis (horizontal axis of the image) and 25 arcseconds in Dec axis (vertical axis of the image), and tracking error has been observed as 4.8 arcseconds per second.

Abstract

Speech recognition can be defined as the process of converting voice signals into the ranks of the word, by applying a specific algorithm that is implemented in a computer program. The research of speech recognition in Indonesia is relatively limited. This paper has studied methods of feature extraction which is the best among the Linear Predictive Coding (LPC) and Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCC) for speech recognition in Indonesian language. This is important because the method can produce a high accuracy for a particular language does not necessarily produce the same accuracy for other languages, considering every language has different characteristics. Thus this research hopefully can help further accelerate the use of automatic speech recognition for Indonesian language. There are two main processes in speech recognition, feature extraction and recognition. The method used for comparison feature extraction in this study is the LPC and MFCC, while the method of recognition using Hidden Markov Model (HMM). The test results showed that the LPC method is better than MFCC in Indonesian language speech recognition.

Abstract

Intra-WBSN plays an important role in health monitoring, military and consumer electronics. It iscomposed of wireless bio-sensor nodes which are strategically placed on the body. Due to body posture movement, network topology of Intra-WBSN changes continuously. It plays a significant role in Intra-WBSN. In proposed Pm-EEMRP, network stability, energy efficiency and high throughput are the prime parametersfor body posture movement in which sensing informations from bio-sensor nodes are forwarded to relay nodes. Relay nodesare deployed in cloths, which aggregate these data and forward it to body network controller (BNC). It provides reliable and comfortable health monitoring. Through simulation, the proposed routing protocol provides better network stability, improved energy efficiency and high throughput in comparison to conventional routing schemes.

Abstract

The price of electrocardiograph (ECG) machine on the market is very high. Currently, the technology used is still very complicated and ineffective, and the ECG machine cannot be connected to other devices. A new development of a low-cost ECG machine with a customized design was needed to integrate the machine with other devices. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to develop a low-cost ECG machine which can be connected to other devices and equipped with sensitivity and paper speed setting. So that portable ECG machines can be produced and used at small clinics in the society. In this study, the main controller of the 12 channels ECG machines was supported by ATMEGA16 microcontroller, that is available on the market at low prices. The main part of the ECG amplifier is built using a high common mode rejection ratio (CMRR) instrumentation amplifier (AD620) and a bandpass filter which the cutoff frequency for highpass filter and lowpass filter are 0.05 Hz and 100 Hz, respectively. In order to complement the previous study, some features were introduced such as selectivity and motor speed option. In this study, 10 participants are involved for data acquisition, and an ECG phantom was used to calibrate the machine. The performance of the ECG machine was evaluated using standard measurement namely relative percentage error (% error) and uncertainty (UA). The result shows that %error from all of the feature is less than 2% and the UA is 0.0 which shows that the ECG machine is feasible for diagnostic purposes.

Abstract

This article shows the implementation of a system that uses a graphic interface to load a digital image into a programmable logic device, which is stored in its internal RAM memory and is responsible for visualizing it in a matrix of RGB LEDs, so that This way, the LEDs show an equivalent to the image that was sent from the PC, conserving an aspect ratio and respecting as much as possible the color of the original image. To carry out this task, a Matlab script was designed to load the image, convert and format the data, which are transmitted to the FPGA using the RS232 protocol. The FPGA is in charge of receiving them, storing them and generating all the signals of control and synchronization of the system including the control of the PWM signals necessary to conserve the brightness of each one of the LEDs. This system allows the visualization of static images in standard formats and, in addition, thanks to the flexibility of the hardware used, it allows the visualization of moving images type GIF.
