Abstract

A flood stands as one of the most common natural occurrences, often resulting in substantial financial losses to property and possessions, as well as affecting human lives adversely. Implementing measures to prevent such floods becomes crucial, offering inhabitants ample time to evacuate vulnerable areas before flood events occur. In addressing the flood issue, numerous scholars have put forth various solutions, such as the development of fuzzy system models and the es- tablishment of suitable infrastructure. However, when applying a fuzzy system, it often results in a loss of interpretability of the fuzzy rules. To address this issue effectively, we propose to reframe the optimization problem by incorpo- rating stage costs alongside the terminal cost. Results show the proposed model called hybrid fuzzy logic and neural networks (NNs) can mitigate the loss of interpretability. Results also show that the proposed method was employed in a flood early detection system aligned with integrating into Twitter social me- dia. The proposed concepts are validated through case studies, showcasing their effectiveness in tasks such as XOR-classification problems.

Abstract

The necessity for environmental protection has led to the development of different sensors for monitoring fuel pipelines to avoid explosion, leakage, and corrosion. Distributed optical fiber sensors-based Brillouin scattering have become progressively common because of their novel feature of simultaneously determining temperature, vibration, and strain. The stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) threshold power, sensing distance, single-mode fiber cable length, and sensing accuracy are serious parameters to the implementation of Brillouin optical time-domain reflectometry (BOTDR) sensor. In this study, remote sensing of multi-BOTDR fiber optic sensors for fuel pipeline monitoring is designed and presented. The results of simulations and theoretical explainations on suppressing fiber optic nonlinearity are analyzed. Results show that an SBS suppression via 16 dB is required to attain the maximum multi-remote sensing distance of up to 20 km for each network and a perfect frequency shift of 11 GHz. An open eye pattern corresponds to minimal signal distortion with a high Q-factor of 22 for the developed sensor. The highest sensing accuracy of 0.3318 %/K indicating power change (%) is observed from 290–300 K at 193.1 THz operating frequency.

Abstract

Ongoing advancements in microstrip patch antenna (MPA) development research is driven by its compact size, cost-effectiveness and ease of fabrication. This paper presents a flexible design of patch antenna array (PAA) to address bandwidth (BW) limitations within the 2.4 GHz industrial, scientific, and medical (ISM) band, where narrow BW is a common challenge. To explore the effectiveness of different array configurations, we designed and evaluated 1×2, 2×2, and 2×4 element rectangular PAA, employing a quarter-wave transformer (QWT) method and parallel scheme for connecting patches. By utilizing Ansys high frequency structure simulator (HFSS) as the modeling environment, we conducted extensive simulations to refine the antenna parameters and achieve the most optimal MPA prototype. Our investigation demonstrates sufficiently good results, including BWs of 290 MHz and 210 MHz for 2×2 and 2×4 PAAs respectively, which account for 8.75% and 12% of the total value. The parameter return loss (RL) (S_11) reached -51dB for single-element patch antenna (SPA) and -37.5 dB for 8-element PAA, that shows an ideal impedance matching. In addition, the designed 2×4 PAA exhibited impressive performance metrics, accounting for 9.17 dB in gain, 13 dBi in directivity, and voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) maintained below 0.5, ensuring excellent signal transmission and reception.

Abstract

Vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) allow vehicles to contact one another to provide safety and comfort applications. However, mobility is a great challenge in VANETs. High vehicle speed causes topological changes that result in unstable networks. Therefore, most previous studies focused on using clustering techniques in roads to reduce the effect of vehicle mobility and enhance network stability. Vehicles stop moving at intersections, and their mobility does not impact clustering. However, none of previous studies discussed the impact of vehicle stopping at intersections on base stations (BSs). Vehicles that have stopped moving at intersections continue to send the same information to BSs, which causes duplicated information. Hence, this study proposes a new method named dynamic multiagent (DMA) to filter cluster information and prevent duplicated information from being sent to BSs at intersections. The performance of the proposed method was evaluated through simulations during the use of DMA and without-DMA (W-DMA) methods based on real data collected from 10 intersections in Batu Pahat City, Johor, Malaysia. Overall, the proposed DMA method results in a considerable reduction in duplicated information at intersections, with an average percentage of 81% from the W-DMA method.

Abstract

The research proposed a new electrically reconfigurable microstrip antenna via a lumped capacitor. Instead of using a varactor diode as a switching circuit which leads to a more complicated design by adding biasing circuits, our suggested antenna design has offered straightforward tuning skills. The projected design has resolved many issues such as a reduction in system complexity by eliminating the biasing circuit, limiting the use of advanced manufacturing devices through using the external circuit to implant or detach the capacitor into or from the antenna main structure, and impedance matching supported with optimum physical structure calculations. The reconfigurable antenna has been modeled and designed using computer simulation technology (CST) software, the prototype antenna has been implemented practically and tested using a spectrum analyzer. The suggested compact antenna has a size of 42×33×0.53 mm3, and supports multi-operational frequency bands (C, X, Ku, and K) which is suitable for modern communication technologies such as Wi-Fi, 5G, and satellite communication.

Abstract

Over the past five decades, obstructive sleep apnea has been noted as a prevalent symptom in adults with escalated health conditions like stroke, obesity, high blood pressure, cardiovascular complications and chronic kidney diseases; to mention but a few. Apnea hypopnea index (AHI) is the average number of apnea or hypopnea events which occur during a complete sleep cycle per hour. It is a measure of determining the severity of sleep apnea, where an index range of 5 to 15 indicates mild, 15 to 30, moderate and above 30 denotes severe sleep apnea. In a bid to perform this diagnosis, several approaches have been considered. In this study vibrating sensor module and an Arduino Uno Rev3 microcontroller which retrieve breathing status data during sleep and identifies apnea events is proposed. The developed monitoring device displays the apnea count, effectively, which can be used to determine AHI. It also incorporates a Bluetooth module for wireless, real-time data monitoring which allows for more comfortable usability. The result is the successful implementation of an efficient, cost-effective system which can be used for sleep apnea diagnosis and provides preventive health care measures.

Abstract

Bangla ranks as the fifth most spoken language globally, catalyzing significant interest in the development of Bangla optical character recognition (OCR) sys tems. The intricate structure of the Bangla script, including compound char acters, modifiers, and headlines, complicates the formation of words. This research introduces a complete OCR system pipeline for printed Bangla text. It employs a thinning-based segmentation approach combined with a convolu tional neural network (CNN) to recognize Bangla fonts. Additionally, a part of speech (POS)-aware spell checker is proposed that automatically corrects mis spelled words while considering their context within the sentence. We intro duce semi-generalized filters that adapt to new fonts, addressing conjunct for mation challenges in Bangla OCR. This flexible design allows for adaptation to new fonts. The ResNet50 model is utilized to accurately recognize segmented characters and modifiers. We achieve a character segmentation error of 3.354% and an overall segmentation error of 2.332%. The ResNet50 recognition model achieves an accuracy of 98.345%.

Abstract

In this study, a single band 28 GHz antenna with defected ground structure (DGS) has been proposed. The integration of a DGS is explored to exploit ground plane defects for achieving wideband operation. Through systematic design and optimization, our approach achieves remarkable bandwidth enhancement, expanding from 0.75 GHz to 5.78 GHz, covering frequencies from 26.43 GHz to 32.21 GHz, resulting in an impressive impedance bandwidth of 20.5%. Notably, the proposed methodology significantly improves the reflection coefficient, reducing it from -16 dB to -57 dB. Furthermore, the antenna demonstrates a gain of 5.123 dBi and an enhanced voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) of 1.0056348. Comparative analysis against existing works underscores the superior performance of our antenna design, affirming its potential for various applications. This work presents a novel DGS featuring a circular microstrip patch antenna (MPA) with dimensions of 8×8×0.5 m³, utilizing Rogers RT5880LZ substrate (E=2) with a thickness of 0.5 mm.

Abstract

In this paper, we presented two developments, the first deals with generalizing the modernization of the damped Dai-Liao formula in an optimized manner. The second development is by suggesting a monotone line search formula for our new algorithms. These new algorithms with the new monotone line search yielded good numerical results when compared to the standard Dai-Liao (DL) and minimum description length (MDL) algorithms. Through several theorems, the new algorithms proved to have a faster convergence to reach the optimum point. These comparisons are drawn in the results section for the tools (Iter, Eval-F, Time) which are a comprehensive measure of the efficiency of the new algorithms with the basic algorithms that we used in the paper.

Abstract

This article presents an industrial and innovation highly efficient drone shaped slotted graphene-based multiple input multiple output (MIMO) antenna with improved isolation, designed for high-speed short-range communication, video rate imaging, medical imaging, and explosive detection in the THz band. The proposed antenna is constructed on an 88×244 μm2 polyimide substrate. Key performance parameters such as reflection coefficient, gain, directivity, radiation pattern, and antenna efficiency are evaluated at the resonating frequencies of 1.7 THz, 3.35 THz, and 5.31 THz, covering a wide bandwidth of 4.88 THz with a reflection coefficient of less than -10 dB. The antenna achieves a maximum gain of 13.92 dB and a radiation efficiency of 95.77% within the resonating band. The MIMO design parameters include an envelope correlation coefficient (ECC) of 0.00015, a diversity gain (DG) of 9.9992, and an isolation of less than -31.55 dB between its elements across the entire bandwidth. The outcomes from CST simulations were verified by designing and simulating a similar resistance-inductance-capacitance (RLC) circuit in advanced design system (ADS), with both simulators producing comparable reflection coefficients. These features underscore the potential of the proposed antenna, utilizing simulations and an equivalent RLC circuit model, as a robust candidate for THz band applications in 6G wireless communication.
