Abstract

This paper is under in-depth investigation due to suspicion of possible plagiarism on a high similarity indexIn this research, a novel wide-band microstrip antenna for wideband applications is proposed. The proposed antenna consists of a square radiating patch and a partial ground plane with a smal rectangular notch-shape. Two symmetrical U-slots are etched in radiating patch. The defected microstrip U-shapes and the small notch improve the antenna characterestics such impedance wideband and the gain along the transmission area. The proposed antenna is simulated on an FR4 substrate of a dielectric constant of 4.3, thickness 1.6 mm, permittivity 4.4, and loss tangent 0.018. The simulation and optimization results are carried out using CST software.The antenna topology occupies an area of 30 × 40 × 0.8 mm3 or about 0.629λg × 0.839λg × 0.017λg at 3 GHz (the centerresonance frequency). The antenna covers the range of 2.1711 to 4.0531 GHz, which meet the requirements of the wireless local area network (WLAN), worldwide interoperability for microwave access (WiMAX) and LTE (Long Term Evolution) band applications. Good VSWR, return loss and radiation pattern characteristics are obtained in the frequency band of interest. The obtained Simulation results for this antenna depict that it exhibits good radiation behavior within the transmission frequency range.

Abstract

Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) is effective in managing and utilizing available network bandwidth. It has advanced security features and a lower time delay. The existing literature has covered the performance of MPLS-based networks in relation to conventional Internet Protocol (IP) networks. But, too few literatures exist on the performance of MPLS-based Virtual Private Networks (VPN) in relation to traditional VPN networks. In this paper, a comparison is made between the effectiveness of the MPLS-VPN network and a classic VPN network using simulation studies done on OPNET®. The performance metrics used to carry out the comparison include; End to End Delay, Voice Packet Sent/Received and Label Switched Path’s Traffic. The simulation study was carried out with Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) as the test bed. The result of the study showed that MPLS-based VPN networks outperform classic VPN networks.

Abstract

Nowadays, the human need for electrical energy is getting higher. Due to the declining supply fuel, many efforts have been studied to find renewable energy. One of the studies is building a power generator system that comes from daily human activities. This paper proposes a human footstep power generator using ultrasonic sensor HC-SR04. Only by doing a simply walking on the ground floor, electrical energy can trigger. An HC-SR04 sensor measuring the spring distances from the footstep and activates the motor drive relay and generator that converts mechanical energy into electrical energy and stored in a battery. The test results state that the deeper of a footing step on the floor surface, the greater distance produced and the higher voltage can be generated. The footstep can trigger 7.5 V-8.8 V. Full battery condition can be used to turn on two pieces of 2-watt LED lamps for approximately 5 hours.

Abstract

Integration of Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) and Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) result in ubiquitous connection for end users. In the integrated network, ensuring the quality of service to users and enhancing capacity of network are prominent issues. Bandwidth adaptation technique is one of the solutions to overcome these issues. Bandwidth adaptation based on per flow and per class schemes were proposed for loosely coupled interworking network. In this paper, hybrid coupled UMTS and WLAN interworking network is analyzed with bandwidth adaptation based on per flow and per class schemes and the performances have been compared. Simulation result shows that the proposed hybrid coupled interworking network with bandwidth adaptation based on per class scheme performs better with enhanced quality of service and network capacity.

Abstract

A brain tumor is one of a deadly disease that needs high accuracy in its medical surgery. Brain tumor detection can be done through magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Image segmentation for the MRI brain tumor aims to separate the tumor area (as the region of interest or ROI) with a healthy brain and provide a clear boundary of the tumor. This study classifies the ROI and non-ROI using fully convolutional network with new architecture, namely UNet-VGG16. This model or architecture is a hybrid of U-Net and VGG16 with transfer Learning to simplify the U-Net architecture. This method has a high accuracy of about 96.1% in the learning dataset. The validation is done by calculating the correct classification ratio (CCR) to comparing the segmentation result with the ground truth. The CCR value shows that this UNet-VGG16 could recognize the brain tumor area with a mean of CCR value is about 95.69%.

Abstract

The objective of this project is to design a high frequency signal injection method for sensorless control of permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drives. Generally, the PMSM drives control requires the appearance of speed and positon sensor to measure the motor speed hence to feedback the information for variable speed drives operation. The usage of the sensor will increase the size, cost, extra hardwire and feedback devices. Therefore, there is motivation to eliminate this type of sensor by injecting high frequency signal and utilizing the electrical parameter from the motor so that the speed and positon of rotor can be estimated. The proposed position and speed sensorless control method using high frequency signal injection together with all the power electronic circuit are modelled using Simulink. PMSM sensorless driveis simulated and the results are analyzed in terms of speed, torque and stator current response without load disturbance but under the specification of varying speed, forward to reverse operation, reverse to forward operation and step change in reference speed. The results show that the signal injection method performs well during start-up and low speed operation.

Abstract

Researchers conducted experiments on parallel algorithms, which are inspired by the clonal selection, called Clonal Selection Algorithm (CSA). This algorithm is a population-based heuristic solution. Course-grained parallelism model applied to improve the execution time. Inter-process communication overhead is addressed by adjusting the communication frequencies and size of data communicated. In this research, conducted experiments on six parallel computing models represent all possible partitions and communications. Experiments conducted using data of NP-Problem, Traveling Salesman Problem (TSP). The algorithm is implemented using the model of message passing libraries using MPJExpress. Experiments conducted in a cluster computation environment. Result shows the best parallelism model is achieved by partitioning the initial population data at the beginning of communication and the end of generation. Communication frequency can be up to per 1% of the population size generated. Using four dataset from TSPLib, this reseache shows effect of the communication frequency that increased the best cost, from 44.16% to 87.01% for berlin52.tsp; from 9.61% to 53.43%  for kroA100.tsp, and from 12.22% to 17.18% for tsp225.tsp. With eight processors, using communication frequency will be reduced the execution time e.g 93.07%, 91.60%, 89.60%, 74.74% for burma14.tsp, berlin52.tsp, kroA100.tsp, and tsp225.tsp respectively. We conclude that frequency of communication greatly affects the execution time, and also the best cost. It improved execution time and best cost.

Abstract

Photonic crystal fibers (PCFs) which exhibit unique and tremendous optical properties have been undergoing quick growth in recent years. Studies on the characteristics of various types of PCFs have been reported. However, characterization on erbium-doped PCF has not previously been investigated. Therefore, in this paper, an erbium-doped core PCF having 7 rings of hexagonal air holes has been modeled. A perfectly matched layer (PML) is modeled within the PCF structure and simulated using Finite Element Method (FEM) using COMSOL software. The PML is optimized by varying the radius and thickness of the layer. Modal properties of the PCF have been investigated in terms of its effective index of the supported fundamental mode, confinement loss and thickness of the perfectly matched layer. This erbium-doped PCF has a confinement loss of 1.0E-6 at 1500 nm and a maximum effective refractive index of 1.476. This paper gathers useful data, which could be used for studying the characteristics of a PCF.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the success of social media as a means of sharing knowledge among scholars in Indonesia. By using Information System Success Model (DeLone and McLean), this study develops a research model that will be used to investigate what factors are contributing to the success of social media as tool for sharing knowledge among academics. This article would focus on the discussion of instrument development and validation process. The method for development and validation the research instrument was refers to the framework proposed by McKanzie et al. This study resulted in a validated instrument, the instrument could use by researchers who are interested in study social media success for knowledge sharing.

Abstract

Travelling is one of the activities needed by everyone to overcome weariness. The number of information about the tourism destination on the internet sometimes does not provide easiness for oncoming tourists. This paper proposes a system capable of making travel itinerary, for tourists who want to visit an area within a few days. For generating itinerary, the system considers several criterias (Multi-criteria-based), which include the popularity level of tourist attractions to visit, tourist visits that minimize budgets or tourist visits with as many destinations as possible. To handle multi criteria-based itinerary, we use the concept of multi attribute utility theory (MAUT). The running time of multi criteria-based itinerary is not significantly different from time-based itinerary. In addition, the number of tourist attractions in the itinerary is more than time-based itinerary, because the combination of solutions from each ant becomes more diverse.
