Abstract

An iterative Reliability Level List (RLL) based soft-input soft-output (SISO) decoding algorithm has been proposed for Block Turbo Codes (BTCs). The algorithm ingeniously adapts the RLL based decoding algorithm for the constituent block codes, which is a soft-input hard-output algorithm. The extrinsic information is calculated using the reliability of these hard-output decisions and is passed as soft-input to the iterative turbo decoding process. RLL based decoding of constituent codes estimate the optimal transmitted codeword through a directed minimal search. The proposed RLL based decoder for the constituent code replaces the Chase-2 based constituent decoder in the conventional SISO scheme. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm has a clear advantage of performance improvement over conventional Chase-2 based SISO decoding scheme with reduced decoding latency at lower noise levels.

Abstract

Attenuation by atmospheric rain is the most significant impairment in millimetre wave frequencies (mmWave). Modern instruments could provide detailed measurements of rain, such as raindrop size distributions (DSDs). The analysis of DSDs could estimate their effects on past or co-located links measurements. This study presents propagation analysis in the mmWave bands using measurements of two terrestrial links working at 26 and 38 GHz carried out in Johor, Malaysia. Statistics obtained have been analysed in detail to extract any excess attenuation. The DSDs provided by a disdrometer have been used to estimate rain attenuation. The derived results show that the estimation can provide reasonable accuracy after extracting the wet antenna effects and having the advantage of the availability of measurements from various types of equipment.

Abstract

Electrocardiogram signal is the electrical actvity of the heart and doctors can diagnose heart disease based on this electrocardiogram signal. However, the electrocardiogram signals often have noise and artifact components. Therefore, one electrocardiogram signal without the noise and artifact plays an important role in heart disease diagnosis with more accurate results. This paper proposes a wavelet transform with three stages of decomposition, filter, and reconstruction for eliminating the noise and artifact in the electrocardiogram signal. The signal after decomposing produces approximation and detail coefficients, which contains the frequency ranges of the noise and artifact components. Hence, the approximation and detail coefficients with the frequency ranges corresponding to the noise and artifact in the electrocardiogram signal are eliminated by filters before they are reconstructed. For the evaluation of the proposed algorithm, filter evaluation metrics are applied, in which signal-to-noise ratio and mean squared error along with power spectral density are employed. The simulation results show that the proposed wavelet algorithm at level 8 is effective, in which the with the “dmey” wavelet function was selected be the best based power spectrum density.

Abstract

The LEDs lighting device with phosphor ingredient (pcLEDs) is among the most common lighting methods in recent years and evaluated by chromatic uniformity and lighting capacity. Therefore, we introduce the phosphor particles that can improve the scattering efficiency (SEPs) to apply in pcLEDs at 8500 K correlated color temperature (CCT) with the expectation to produce better pcLEDs by enhancing both quantity and quality of emitted light. Combining various materials such as CaF2 and SiO2 with yellow Y3Al5O12:Ce3+ phosphor composition in the pcLEDs simulation created by the LightTools program is the mechanism of this research. The simulated pcLEDs are tested and the results will be verified with Mie-scattering theory. The observation of the simulation leads to the conclusion about the scattering coefficients of SEPs at 455 nm and 595 nm wavelengths. The calculation showed that CaF2 is better for color homogeneity yet suffer from luminous flux deficiency as the concentration gets higher. On the other hand, SiO2 is the scattering enhancement material that can maintain high luminous flux regardless of its concentration.

Abstract

The tubular linear permanent magnet synchronous motor (TLPMSM) is developed to constitute a new oil-well pump system named as linear motor-driven one replacing the normal beam balanced pump system mainly in order to eliminate the damageable steel pole. Its structure is determined based on the real drive demand and the corresponding analysis results are given. At last a small prototyped TLPMSM with stator outer diameter of 140mm, effective stator length of 864mm is designed and manufactured to verify the theoretical analysis and investigate the performance, and make preparation for the large practicable prototype in the future.

Abstract

Particle filter been used for localization and position estimation with various applications. Several method applied in order to reduce the complexity of particle information to lower processing resource requirement while providing a precise map. Sonar sensor provide a range precision with poor bearing. Partial observation applied to gain estimation of object location using several measurement from multiple vantage point. This paper propose grouping of detection particle from sonar sensor using clustering method in order to provide estimated object position from a single vantage point. The approach estimate objects using euclidean distance treshold to separate one object detections from the other and group all the detection particle into cluster containing a set of number. As a result of particle clustering, object location can be estimated with their respective weight of certainty as an attribution for further decision making.

Abstract

Forest fires are one of problems that threaten sustainability of the forest. Early prevention system for indications of forest fires is absolutely necessary. The extent of the forest to be one of the problems encountered in the forest condition monitoring. To overcome the problems of forest extent, designed a system of forest fire detection system by adopting the Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) using multiple sensor nodes. Each sensor node has a microcontroller, transmitter/receiver and three sensors. Measurement method is performed by measuring the temperature, flame, the levels of methane, hydrocarbons, and CO2 in some forest area and the combustion of peat in a simulator. From results of measurements of temperature, levels of methane, a hydrocarbon gas and CO2 in an open area indicates there are no signs of fires due to the value of the temperature, methane, hydrocarbon gas, and CO2 is below the measurement in the space simulator.

Abstract

Local multipoint distribution system (LMDS) that operated in millimeter waves can be used to fulfill the need of bit rate higher than 40 Mbps. However it has problem when applied in tropic country such as Indonesia because of the high rainfall. Therefore LMDS system was developed by cross-layer mechanism.  In this research we used joint subcarrier and power allocation (JSPA) technique in multi-user cross-layer OFDM. This technique is proposed to increase the performance of telecommunication system even there were disturbance of rain attenuation. The research is discussing the performance of transmission capacity, data rate, utility and fairness of JSPA algorithm that applied in rain attenuation measurement in Surabaya. The result shows the increment of performance system using JSPA technique. For 40 dB rain attenuation, JSPA can achieves respectively average capacity of transmission up to 173,3%, 189,9 % for data rate and 9,6% for fairness system. The application of JSPA technique improve the performance of utility 13,61-15,48 bps/Hz

Abstract

Accompanying with the speeding up of Internet of things (IOT) construction, the dependability problems become the important factors constraining its all-round development. Based on the multi-level and multidimensional properties of IOT dependability elements, with the overall improving of the dependability index of IOT as the ultimate goal, the dependability elements of the local fine-tuning in each layer, this paper researches the change rule of internal dependability elements in perception layer, network layer and business layer, and adopts perception layer as the example, using the method of linear programming to seek the best proportion of all kinds of dependability elements and the optimal values of the elements, trying to construct a feasible autonomic optimization model for dependability elements of IOT system. Firstly, according to the function features and dependability properties of each layer, and change rules between the dependability index and dependability elements in each layer are analyzed. Secondly, based on the dynamic changes (up or down) of dependability elements in internal environment (that is, three layers in IOT), the ratio relations of dependability elements in each layer are dynamically controlled and adjusted to implement the local optimization, improving the overall autonomic configuration and autonomic adjusting ability of IOT system. At last, example analysis results show that the optimization model proposed in this paper can realize the substantial optimization in each layer of IOT.
