Abstract

Currently, since the categorical distribution of short text corpus is not balanced, it is difficult to obtain accurate classification results for long text classification. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a novel method of short text classification using comprehensive feature weights. This method takes into account the situation of the samples in the positive and negative categories, as well as the category correlation of words, so as to improve the existing feature weight calculation method and obtain a new method of calculating the comprehensive feature weight. The experimental result shows that the proposed method is significantly higher than other feature-weight methods in the micro and macro average value, which shows that this method can greatly improve the accuracy and recall rate of short text classification.

Abstract

Structure, chemical, and physical properties of Multiwalled Carbon Nanotubes (MWCNTs) after modification by dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) at atmospheric pressure is investigated using Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), Raman and Uv-vis-NIR spectroscopy. Effects of plasma treatment time on MWCNTs are analyzed. TEM result shows that during the short period of plasma treatment time of 5 minutes, the tube surface experienced a few damages. With increase in plasma treatment time, the tube surface is damaged to a certain extent. Intensity ratio, ID/IG through Raman analysis shows a good agreement with TEM. The values of ID/IG of the modified MWCNTs are larger than those of pristine MWCNTs. An increase of ID/IG indicates that considerable defects are produced on the surfaces of MWCNTs. The treated MWCNTs has energy band gap compared to zero band gap of untreated MWCNTs. It is believed that the defect site of MWCNTs can modify the electronics properties of MWCNTs from being metallic to semiconducting structure, which is applicable for almost all electronics device applications.

Abstract

In recent years, many applications have been implemented in embedded systems and mobile Internet of Things (IoT) devices that typically have constrained resources, smaller power budget, and exhibit "smartness" or intelligence. To implement computation-intensive and resource-hungry Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) in this class of devices, many research groups have developed specialized parallel accelerators using Graphical Processing Units (GPU), Field-Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA), or Application-Specific Integrated Circuits (ASIC). An alternative computing paradigm called Stochastic Computing (SC) can implement CNN with low hardware footprint and power consumption. To enable building more efficient SC CNN, this work incorporates the CNN basic functions in SC that exploit correlation, share Random Number Generators (RNG), and is more robust to rounding error. Experimental results show our proposed solution provides significant savings in hardware footprint and increased accuracy for the SC CNN basic functions circuits compared to previous work.

Abstract

Nowadays, many research papers focus on the WPCN problem and how to improve its efficiency. In this research, we propose and investigate Hybrid Decode-Amplify and Forward Protocol (HDAF) of the Full-Duplex (FD) Energy Harvesting (EH) Relaying Network with the Time Switching (TS) protocol. In the beginning stage, we present the HDAF mode, which can be work like a Decode-and-Amplify (DF) or Amplify-and-Forward (AF) modes based on the best of its performance in the FD EH relaying network. Furthermore, the closed-form expression of the outage probability (OT) is analyzed and derived in connection with the primary system parameters. Besides, the comparison of the system performance in the AF, DF, and HDAF is proposed and investigated. Finally, all the results are convinced by the Monte Carlo simulation for all cases.

Abstract

This paper proposes a prototype of an improved smart home controller that implements a neural network-based algorithm for enabling the controller to make decisions and act based on the current condition. Unlike previous approaches, this design also utilizes the use of IoT (internet of thing) technology and neural network based-algorithm for developing the controller. Since a smart home is equipped with various sensors, actuators, smart appliances, and mobile terminals, all of these devices need to be connected to the Internet to be able to communicate and provide services for its occupants. The construction of the proposed controller is carried out through several procedures, i.e. the implementation of the ADALINE (adaptive linear) as the neural network method, the design of the smart home controller prototype, and the validation process using mean average percentage error (MAPE) calculation. This prototype integrates functionalities of several household appliances into one application controlled by a smartphone. ADALINE is applied as an algorithm to predict output when the controller is in automatic mode. Although the obtained accuracy value is still not satisfactory, the value is bound to change when testing on more data. The work published in this paper may encourage the implementation of smart technology in more households in Indonesia.

Abstract

This paper addresses performance measurement of Gaussian Minimum Shift Keying (GMSK) modulation which is implemented on Software-Defined Radio (SDR) platform using Universal Software Radio Peripheral (USRP) from GNU Radio. GMSK modulation is very popular and is adopted as GSM cellular phone modulation standard.  The results of this research can be used as basic concept in developing wireless communication system based on SDR technology which is needed in Next-Generation Networks (NGN). The GMSK performance is measured in terms of Packet Error Rate (PER) with several of Eb/No, bit rate, modulation frequency, payload size, and gain values. Based on this research, the lowest PER can be achieved by setting Eb/No value equal to 20 dB, optimum bit rate = 256 kbps, BT 0.25, optimum payload size = 4092 bytes, and optimum gain equal to 100.

Abstract

This paper presents a performance evaluation of nonlinear filtering with Interacting Multiple Model (IMM) algorithm for implementation on Indonesian coastal radar target tracking system. On this radar, target motion is modeled using Cartesian coordinate but target position measurements are provided in polar coordinate (range and azimuth). For this implementation, we investigated two types of nonlinear filtering, Converted Measurement Kalman Filter (CMKF) and Unscented Kalman Filter (UKF). IMM algorithm is used to anticipate target motion uncertainty. Many simulations on radar target tracking are developed under assumption that noise characteristic is known. In this paper, the performance of IMM-CMKF and IMM-UKF is evaluated for condition that radar doesn’t know noise characteristic and there is mismatch on noise modeling. Results from simulation show that IMM-CMKF has better performance than IMM-UKF when tracking maneuvering trajectory. Results also show that IMM-CMKF is more robust than IMM-UKF when there is mismatch on noise modeling.

Abstract

A reliable electrical energy supply is a prerequisite for improving the standard economic and quality of life levels in a country. As is the case in many countries, Iraq is home to a collection of remote villages. Since it is uneconomical to connect these villages to the existing grid, the installation of stand-alone electrical power generators has become common practice. As a result, diesel stand-alone power generators see widespread use in these remote locales, which, whilst fit for their intended purpose, unfortunately suffer from several drawbacks, including instability in regards to everyday oil prices and a number of environmental issues. The implementation of a PV/FC hybrid power system could be one potential alternative to help solve these problems. Therefore, this paper will present PV/FC system control strategies alongside information relating to the performance of such system components, based on a case study that was conducted in Al-Gowair, Iraq. This study is especially important in terms of envisioning the future energy supply needs of Iraq. The HOMER simulation results showed that by using the proposed control strategies and suggested components of a PV/FC system, it was able to produce a satisfactory outcome.

Abstract

Metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistors (MOSFET) were fabricated using organic semiconductor pentacene. The humidity dependence of drain current gate voltage (ID-VG) characteristic and drain current drain voltage characteristic (ID-VD) will be explained. Firstly, the thermal oxidation method was used to grow SiO2 gate insulator with thickness of 11 nm. Secondly, the thermal evaporation method was used to form Au source and drain electrodes with thickness of 28 nm. The channel width and length of the transistors were 500 mm and 200 mm, respectively. By the same method, organic semiconductor material pentacene was deposited with thickness of 50 nm at vacuum of 7.8x10-6 Torr. The hole mobility decreased from 0.035 cm2/(Vs) to 0.006 cm2/(Vs), while the threshold voltage increased from 0.5 V to 2.5 V and gate leakage current also increased from 5.8x10-10 A to 3.3x10-9 A when the relative humidity increased from 20% to 70%.
