Abstract

Riskesdas 2013 showed the prevalence of abnormal total cholesterol levels in Indonesia is 35.9%, low HDL cholesterol is 22.9%, high LDL cholesterol is 15.9%, and high triglyceride is 11.9%. This study aimed to prove the effect of jack bean protein extract toward serum lipid profile of a hypercholesterolemic rat. This was a true experimental study conducted in September 2016 with post-only control group design. Twenty four male Sprague Dawley rats were randomly classified into 4 different groups; control negative group (C-), control positive group (C+), first experimental group (X1) which was given jack bean extract 4g/200g of body weight of the rat per day, and second experimental group (X2) which was given jack bean extracts 6g/200g of body weight of the rat per day. Treatment for 2 weeks showed a significant effect. Total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and triglycerides levels of groups with protein jack bean extract administration were lower than the positive control group (p <0.05). Increasing doses of jack bean extracts was linear with serum lipid profile improvement of Sprague Dawley Rat. These result indicated the positive effect of jack bean protein extract toward serum lipid profile of hypercholesterolemic Sprague Dawley Rat.

Abstract

Indonesia’s commitment at London Summit 2012 was to reduce TFR by increasing contraceptive users by 2020. This paper aimed to estimate the number, trend and possibility to achieve RPJMN and FP2020 targets in Indonesia. This was a descriptive study using secondary data from Indonesia national survey. Data are presented in line, bar, and pie graphs, also table to explain trend and possibility of Indonesia FP to achieve 2020 targets. Using 2012 data as the baseline, RPJMN and FP2020 targets will be achieved if CPR grows 0.5 point/year. However, recent growth was insufficient, only 0.3 additional points. The current CPR is behind the target and 1 point/year growth rate is needed to approximate the target trajectory. Based on three surveys in 2015 (PMA, SUSENAS and SUPAS), Indonesia’s CPR was predicted to be 61.1% on 2020. This is five points lower than the 2020 target, 66.3%. This discrepancy shows that Indonesia would not achieve FP target on RPJMN 2015-2019. Based on recent survey in 2015, CPR trajectory is predicted to be 5 points below the target. 1.5 points annual growth is needed to achieve the 2020 goals.

Abstract

The west Southeast Maluku regency is a malaria endemic area with API of 29.99 / 1000 in 2014. Malaria is affected by climatology, therefore climatological changes can be used to predict increase in malaria cases. We used times series study research method of the climatology influence on malaria cases in Alusi Community Health Center. We used secondary data of malaria cases from Alusi Community Health Center and climatologic data (rainfall, wind speed, humidity temperature) from Saumlaki Meteorological, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency. The research was conducted in March-April 2016 in West Southeast Maluku Regency.  The data was analysed by linear regression. The proportion of malaria cases was 38.3%; most infection occured in patients over 15 years old (71 cases). The linear regression analysis of climatological influence on malaria cases were as follows: humidity was r = 0.382; R2 = 0.146; p = 0.220, r = 0.172 temperature was; R2 = 0.03; p = 0.592, r = 0.345, rainfall was; R2 = 0.119; p = 0.272, and wind velocity was r = 0.07; R2 = 0.005; p = 0.828. We could concluded that climatology parameters showed positive correlation, but statistically insignificant relationship with malaria cases (p <0.05).

Abstract

The high prevalence of stunting is influenced by nutritional intake. Iodine is an important micronutrient for growth. Bengkulu City is located along coastal area, hence it has potentially high iodine food sources. However, stunting prevalence was still high. This was a cross-sectional study conducted from March to July 2016 which aimed to determine the relationship between iodine consumption and linear growth of children under five years old in Malabero coastal area of Bengkulu City. The population were children aged 2-5 years old with a sample of 73 children. Measurement of linear growth was based on AHZ index using microtoice with capacity of 200 cm and accuracy of 0.1 cm. Iodine intake was measured based on semiquantitative Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ). The results showed that 71.2% of children under five years old did not had sufficient iodine consumption with average percentage of iodine sufficiency 47.7% ± 0.456. There were 53.5% of children under five years old who experienced stunting. Low iodine consumption was shown to be associated with stunting. There were 73.1% children under five years old with insufficient iodine intake who were stunted while only 4.8% children under five years old with sufficient iodine intake who were stunted.
