Abstract

AbstractAccording to Wilhelm Dilthey’s hermeneutic perspective, there are six points in reinterpreting the Minangkabau’s traditional aphorism “Urang sabana urang”. First, understanding of Minangkabau’s way of life is a general process, included in an ordinary life which is expressed in the aphorism. Second, theexpression of the aphorism is called “ausdruck”, Minangkabau’sexpression of life experiment and historicity. Third, humancharacteristics in Minangkabau’s aphorism consist of: “urang,urang-urang, tampan urang, angkuh-angkuh urang, urangurangan, urang sabana urang”. Fourth, “urang sabana urang” is a man who has excellent characteristics. Fifth, the globalization influence and the modern culture have changed Minangkabau’s insight of “urang sabana urang” concept so that it needs a reinterpretation in order to be understood by youth of Minang. Sixth, the epistemological dimension in Minangkabau’s aphorism synthesizes an empirical aspect and rationality. The metaphysical dimension of the aphorism shows a relation between tradition and religion so that it arise the principle of “adat basandi syarak, syarak basandi kitabullah”. The axiological dimension in the aphorism is seen as a criterion of values which is an obligation for Minangs to prevent their identity as” urang sabana urang”.Keyword: urang sabana urang, adat basandi syarak, syarakbasandi kitabullah, Minangkabau custom aphorism.

Abstract

The birth of postmodernism can not be separated from the notion of modernism. The view of modernism assumes that the truth of science is absolute and objective, meaning that there is no human value. Here is the birth of a new idea of postmodernism which is one of figures are Jean Francouis Lyotard, postmodernism is a continuation and correction of modernism to provide a new thought and solution in his view of science. For postmodernism, science is not objective but subjective and the interpretation of man himself, so the truth is relative. Postmodernism can not be separated by its weakness and whether it is relevant to today’s life, so postmodernism adds to the acquisition of knowledge which can be accepted by its existence.

Abstract

AbstractIn the Javanese minds, the essence and relationship of manand God are the cornerstone to build a holistic view of genealogy and direction of life. The wayang/ puppet story of “Semar Kuning” is one of some exemplary narrations which comprehends the relation of man-God in common people perspectives in the case that the legitimacy of King-God is questioned metaphysically and ethically. The character of Semar in the Javanese world has a centralsymbolic and mystical role to bring a harmony and overcome adisorder in the natural and social life. The central symbolic role of Semar in protecting and taking care of the world is based onJavanese understanding of the man-God relationship which tends to accept its relationship in ontical sense. Although this tendency is a part of religious perspective mainstream at the time, it still keeps the magi function of the “wayang kulit” performance to overcome cosmic and ethical disharmony in the world. In the ethical terminology, the ethical discourse that had been given in the wayang/ puppet story of “Semar Kuning” is a virtue ethics which shows bad and good moral attitudes.Keyword: Deconstruction, Javanese Perspectives, the man-Godrelationship, Semar Kuning, Wayang/ puppet.

Abstract

The birth of Moore's philosophy has a background in Bradley's Idealism-The philosophy of Bradley is rooted in Hegelianistic philosophy- and in Berkeley's immaterialism. Moore tried to revive English Realism tradition. Long before Bradley thoughts. The matterials of this research are all drawn from English philosophy that deals with Common Sense, both influencing and influenced by Moore's philsophy. The objective of this research is describe the function of Common Sense in Moore's philosophy. The aims of this research are (1) to determine the meaning of Common Sense, (2) to determine the realization of epistemology of Common Sense, and (3) to identify the contribution of epistemological Common Sense in the development of philosophy of science. This research uses three methods, (1) Factual-Historical Method, which is used to retrace the stream of development of the meaning of Common Sense in English philosophy. (2) Synthetico-Analitic method, which is used to find out specific meaning of the term Common Sense. (3) Hermeneutics. Which is useng to mediate the messeage drawn from realities (objects). The results of this research are (1) historically, the conception of Common Sense used by many philosophers. Despite differents of terminilogy and meaning according to them. (2) Synthetic-analitically, the meaning of Common Sense depends on the approaches of the respective philosophers. (3) Hermeneurtically, the meaning of Common Sense in Moore philosophy is to be understood as a unifeid ability of sense activities and consciuosness to grasp and understand material objects. Common Sense denotes to human capacity, that is a universal belief that produces certainty of knowledge of material things. Common Sense epistemology is specific ally Moore's epistemology. It is sparates the subjects from the objects distinictively. A subject sees factual objects in direct experiences, so that he gets the sense-data. Tp apprehend sense-data directly involves conscious activity. The result of that activity is the true and necessary knowledge. The contribution of Moore's Common Sense epistemology to the philosophy of science that sense-data of material thing objects are indispensable as a point for developing scientific knowledge. Therefore, Common Sense knowledge is implanted in every stage of scientific thought.
