Abstract

Over the past four decades, Bali has emerged as a leading MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, Exhibitions) tourism destination. This study examines the feasibility of organizing green-hybrid conferences in Bali post Covid-19, focusing on identifying key potentials and obstacles for effective management. Employing qualitative methods, utilizing interviews and document analysis, the research assesses infrastructure, human resources, and logistical aspects relevant to hosting such conferences. Bali demonstrates adequate infrastructure and human resources but encounters challenges like technological limitations and logistical dependence. These findings shed light on the complexities of implementing green-hybrid conference management post-pandemic. The study’s limitation lies in its focuses solely on Bali, thus potentially limiting generalizability. Nonetheless, it emphasizes collaborative stakeholder efforts and sustainable practices integration in conference management. It highlights the importance of investing in technology and local capacity building to improve feasibility. Future research could explore other destinations’ experiences regarding long term economic and environmental impacts of green-hybrid conference initiatives.

Abstract

This article investigates the movement of sensory visual disability individuals in Denpasar, Bali. The Nirkala Bali Community took the initiative to challenge prevailing stereotypes that link people with sensory visual impairments solely to occupations such as massage therapists and special education teachers. Instead, they underwent a significant transformation and actively participated in the arts sector. This paper aims to determine the success or lack thereof of their movement and to identify any growing support or awareness for it. This study employed a phenomenological approach and recruited participants from the entire Nirkala Bali Community. In-depth interviews and observations of artistic works uploaded to YouTube comprised the data collection process. This article serves as an introduction to the activism of the Nirkala Bali Community, which is representative of the sensory visual disability movement in Bali. This study is expected as the introduction that will facilitate comprehension of their endeavors to combat the pervasive stigmatization that pervades society.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to examine the impact of destination image, destination image, perceived value of medical costs, and perceived value of medical facilities and services on the intention to visit Bali as a medical tourism destination. The research used quantitative methodology, employing a survey method. The population consisted of all of domestic tourists who visited Bali. The sample was 87 domestic tourists who came to Bali for medical tourism purposes. The research findings indicate that destination image, perceived value of medical costs, and perceived value of medical facilities and services have an impact on intention to visit Bali for medical tourism. However, the perception of Bali as a destination did not have any impact on tourists' intention to visit for medical tourism purposes. These findings provide both theoretical and practical implication. A collaborative effort involving several parties is necessary to enhance the branding and promotion of medical tourism.

Abstract

This research aims to validate the memorable experiences of domestic tourists during their travels in Bali. The significance of this topic lies in the absence of studies on the post-pandemic memorable experiences of domestic tourists in Bali. The natural beauty and cultural arts, interactions with the local community and fellow tourists, as well as culinary and gastronomic experiences, are factors contributing to these memorable experiences, serving as primary reasons for domestic tourists to return to Bali. The research used a quantitative approach, involving a survey of 68 members of the academic community from Indonesian universities. The research suggests that the perceived excellence of tourism services in Bali positively influences tourists' likelihood of returning to the destination. Positive experiences in places like Pandawa, Ubud, Uluwatu, and Nusa Penida influence tourists' tendency to return to Bali. The research adds to the existing body of literature on memorable experiences of domestic tourists in Bali and highlights the need for sustainable gastronomic maps, halal, and vegan food options for tourists.

Abstract

The spatial arrangement of the Tenganan Dauh Tukad (TDT) settlement is perceived as the acculturation of Bali Aga (Old Bali) and Java Hindu Kingdom of Majapahit traditions. Accordingly, this study identifies the concepts, values, and philosophy behind residential space arrangement. Thus, this study enacted an interpretative approach. Data analysis was performed qualitatively in residential settings, i.e., culture, behavior, and spatial. This study demonstrated that the geometric construction of residential space in the TDT was formed in three manners. First, it blended the existing philosophy of harmony between the macrocosm and microcosm concepts. Second, the spatial arrangement of the TDT settlement adhered to the inward-oriented concept, with the village road as the central axis of village orientation. Third, cultural acculturation between the Bali Aga and Majapahit caused alterations in the settlement’s spatial orientation. This article contributes as a reference in creating traditional residential spaces that must consider socio-cultural aspects dynamically.

Abstract

This article defines the various layers and identity labels of the Balinese society. Much of their indigenous customs have been linked with Hinduism, and many would regard the two to be inseparable. This article, however, attempts to separate the indigenous elements of ancestral worship from the Vedic or Hindu understanding of societal divisions in order to properly study the two and how they influence one another. The history of the island has enforced the rigid caste system, but the application of Hindu philosophy serves an idealized definition of caste. In such a way, the Hindu or Vedic belief does provide much relief for Balinese society. However, they are still defined by their patrilineal heritage, and are bound to ancestral worship as per their indigenous religion. Fueled by the contemporary socio-political landscape of Bali, there is a need to properly define what Balinese identity actually is.

Abstract

Agritourism in Bali has not been developed optimally yet. As a basis for development of agritourism, the criteria should be determined and priorities among criteria need to be set. The objectives of this research were: (i) to identify criteria for agritourism development; and (ii) to analyze the priorities for selected criteria according to the agritourism stakeholders in Bali. This research implemented Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method which involved 20 key informants representing agritourism stakeholders. The finding was the priority criteria for agritourism development in Bali, namely: (1) Attractions, followed by (2) Local Community Involvement, (3) Ancillary Services, (4) Marketing, (5) Amenities, and (6) Accessibility. This kind of research has not been undertaken previously in Bali. It contributes to academic and practical implications, particularly in agritourism development planning in Bali, in which development of agritourism should be focused on the diversification of agritourism attractions supported by professional management and community participation.
