Abstract

Abstract: The research aims to know: 1) which learning model is better achievement LC 5E with scientific appraoach, PBL, or direct learning models : 2) the learning autonomy category giving a better achievement among the high, medium, and low level of learning autonomy; 3) the learning autonomy which yields a better achievement of each learning model ; and 4) learning model which yields a better achievement of each learning autonomy category. The type of the research is a quasi-experimental research. The research is carried out in Sukoharjo regency. The populations of research are all 10th students of in Sukoharjo regency in which  school based curriculum applied in the academic year of 2014-2015. The sampling technique uses Stratified Cluster Random Sampling. The data collecting techniques use documents, questionnaires, and tests. The data analysis technique uses two-way variant analysis with unequal cells. The research concludes that; 1) the LC 5E learning model with scientific approach gives a better achievement in mathematics learning; 2) the students with high learning autonomy get better mathematics scores. The indicator is the average  scores of students with high learning autonomy are better than those with low or medium level; 3) In each learning model, the students with high learning autonomy get  better achievements than those  with medium or low as well  learning autonomy in general, whereas in high learning autonomy category, the LC 5E learning with scientific approach shows a better math achievement than PBL; and 4) For the classification of learning autonomy between the high level and the medium one,  learning model  LC 5E with scientific approach shows better achievement mathematics learning than the one with PBL  or direct learning, whereas, the low learning autonomy has no different achivement LC 5E with scientific approach, PBL or the direct one. Keywords: Mathematics Learning Achievement, Learning Autonomy, Learning Model

Abstract

Abstract: This study was aimed to obtain 2013 Curriculum of mathematics mutlimedia kit using Problem Based Learning (PBL) model in plane geometry lesson of eighth grade junior high school in Surakarta which is considered as a valid, practical, and effective to be applied for learning. Furthermore, the goal was to discover whether the student’s achievement of plane geometry lesson using the developed mutlimedia kit is better than using the prior product. The study type was Research and Development (R & D) to generate and verify product effectiveness. Study procedure refers to modified Four-D model (Define, Design, Develope, Disseminate) which is appropriate to study requirements and limitations. In the effort to obtain a valid, practical, and effective mutlimedia kit to be applied for learning, we used questionnaire to obtain these following data: (1) comments and recommendations from experts about mutlimedia kit; (2) learning feasibility score by teachers and follow-up recommendations; (3) activity score of students and follow-up recommendations; and (4) appreciation and eagerness level of students toward mutlimedia kit. We used test as an attempt to figure out whether the student’s achievement of plane geometry lessons using the developed mutlimedia kit is better than using the prior product. Study results conclude that mutlimedia kit is valid, practical, and effective to be used in learning activity. Percentage of learning feasibility by teachers is 92%, percentage of students’ activities is 80%, and percentage of students who appreciate and want to use mutlimedia kit is 80%. After being tested, final student’s achievement of experimental class is better than final student’s achievement of control class.Key words: mathematics mutlimedia kit, 2013 Curriculum, Problem Based Learning (PBL) model, plane geometry.

Abstract

Abstract: This research was aimed to decribe metacognition activity of male and female students in mathematics problem solving. This research was a qualitative research which used case study method. The subject of the research was 7th students of SMP Negeri 1 Nanggulan. The subject selection criteria was based on students opinion expressing competency either in spoken and written form. The data was collected using think aloud method where the students were asked to express their ideas and questions loudly in mathematical problem solving processes. Then the time triangulation was run to produce a valid data from the research subject. The data analysis was conducted using Miles and Huberman model. The result of research showed : 1) the metacognition activity of the male students are : a) understanding the problems phase : perform activities related to strategic knowledge; b) devising a plan phase : perform activities associated with knowledge about cognitive tasks; c) carrying out the plan phase : perform activities related to strategic knowledge and associated with knowledge about cognitive tasks; d) looking back phase : perform activities related to knowledge strategy and perform activities associated with self-knowledge. 2) the metacognition activity of the female students are : a) understanding the problems phase: perform activities related to strategic knowledge and perform activity associated with self-knowledge; b) devising a plan phase : perform activity associated with knowledge about cognitive tasks; c) carrying out the plan phase : perform activity related to strategic knowledge and associated with knowledge about cognitive tasks; d) looking back phase: perform activities related to strategic knowledge and  perform activity associated with self-knowledgeKeywords: metacognition, mathematics problem solving, gender

Abstract: The purposes of this research were to: (1) identify the occurrence of misconceptions in the eighth grade junior high school students in the material form of algebraic fractions, for students which are classified to cognitive style field independence and field dependence, and (2) describe the occurrence of misconceptions eighth grade junior high school students in the material form of algebraic fractions, for students which are classified to cognitive style field independence and field dependence. This research used a descriptive qualitative  method with a case study. Subjects of this research are eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Adimulyo academic year 2013/2014. The sample of the research was taken by using the snowball sampling technique. The identification of the existence of misconceptions was done by using misconception diagnostic test. While the identification of the students cognitive styles was conducted by using student cognitive style questionnaire instrument. Data validity used the source of triangulation method. Analysis of data use the model of Miles and Huberman. The results of this research indicate that: (1) misconceptions that occur in the FD students more likely to misconceptions on the concept of understanding the elements of the algebra and the terms of a fraction is called fractional form algebra, the concept of canceling, the concept of operating powers, and understand the properties the concept of distributive, (2) the highest misconceptions experienced by the FI students in understanding the concept of distributive properties, as well as understanding the elements of the algebra the condition is referred to as a fraction in the form of algebraic fractions, (3) causes of the misconceptions students FD is dominated by reasoning is not complete and students who lack of ability to process and memorize course, (4) factors causing of misconceptions students FI dominated by reasoning is not complete. Keywords: Misconceptions, algebraic fractions, cognitive style.
