Abstract

Occupational health issues in rural informal industries, particularly home-based garment production, are often overlooked despite the high risk of musculoskeletal disorders among young workers. This community service program aimed to improve occupational health literacy and physical well-being among rural youth through ergonomic education and therapeutic swimming training in Ngadirejo Village, Boyolali. Implemented in collaboration with Karang Taruna “Gambate,” the program applied a community-based participatory approach over eight months. Interventions included ergonomic training on proper posture, simple workstation adjustments, micro-break and stretching routines, and therapeutic swimming to support muscle recovery. A one-group pre-test and post-test design using the Occupational Health Knowledge Scale and the Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire was used for evaluation. Results showed a 28.8% increase in ergonomic knowledge and a 23.5% decrease in musculoskeletal complaints. In conclusion, participatory and low-cost ergonomic interventions effectively improved health awareness, reduced physical strain, and strengthened productive behavior among rural youth workers.

Abstract

The low capacity of TPA teachers in Surakarta makes the implementation of effective teaching methods difficult. This study aims to improve the capacity of TPA teachers in Soloraya in strengthening effective storytelling skills. This study uses the Participatory Action Research (PAR) concept. The results of the study show that the strengthening efforts have not had a significant impact on religious teachers. Efforts to provide support in creating storybooks about the exemplary stories of the Prophets, which integrate the values of moderation, are intended to be a solution to various problems, such as low qualifications, limited human resources, and limited facilities. The development of TPQ teaching materials aims to improve the qualifications of TPA teachers in Soloraya. The implications of this study are beneficial for improving the qualifications of TPA teachers in Soloraya, so that they can teach students more efficiently.

Abstract

Zakat management in mosques in Banyuputih is often still consumptive in nature and has not touched on aspects of sustainable economic empowerment. The purpose of this community service is to increase the capacity of mosque administrators in productive zakat management; provide entrepreneurship training to the community around the mosque and form a sustainable mosque-based economic empowerment model through collaboration between UPZ, the community, and universities. This training activity uses a participatory training approach through several training steps, namely: training, monitoring, and evaluation. Economic empowerment training based on the mosque through productive zakat management in Banyuputih Village has proven to have a significant impact on increasing the economic capacity of mustahik and strengthening the role of the mosque as a center for community empowerment. This model can be replicated in other mosques provided there is professional governance, continuous mentoring, and synergy between the mosque administrators, the community, and zakat institutions.

Abstract

The increasing circulation of digital content that normalizes incest fantasies poses a challenge to child protection within families. This community service program was conducted in Banyumanik Subdistrict, Semarang City, where preliminary assessments indicated high internet access, limited parental digital supervision, and low public awareness of the legal risks associated with incest-related content. The program aimed to strengthen legal awareness and digital literacy to prevent children's exposure to harmful online content. Using a Participatory Community Education approach, the program involved 35 participants through legal counselling, digital literacy training, focus group discussions, and pre-test/post-test evaluations. Before the intervention, 78% of participants were unaware that incest-fantasy content is categorized as prohibited pornography under Indonesian law. Following the program, 89% of participants were able to identify forms of digital content that normalize incest fantasies, indicating a 67 percentage-point improvement in legal awareness and digital literacy. The program demonstrates that community-based legal education can strengthen family resilience and support child protection in the digital environment.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of information technology requires Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) to modernize their library governance to enhance the quality of information services and students’ literacy. This community service program aimed to describe strategies for strengthening technology-based library governance in pesantren in the digital era. The study employed a descriptive qualitative approach using a service-learning model. The participants included pesantren leaders, library administrators, and students from several Islamic boarding schools in Semarang. The findings revealed that most pesantren libraries were still managed conventionally, lacked standardized operating procedures (SOPs), and made limited use of digital technology in collection management and library services. The intervention program consisted of training on shelving and collection classification, the utilization of library management applications, library space arrangement, and the development of a digital catalog. The evaluation results indicated that the program was effective, as evidenced by improved managerial and technical competencies among library administrators, the establishment of a simple digital catalog system, and enhanced accessibility and efficiency of information services for students. The program also generated positive impacts on library administrators through increased technical and managerial skills, while students benefited from more organized, accessible, and literacy-supportive library services. Based on these findings, strategies for strengthening technology-based library governance in pesantren can be implemented through systematic management planning, capacity building for human resources, the provision of technology-supporting facilities, and the sustainable implementation of digital library systems. Therefore, it is recommended that pesantren develop standardized operating procedures, expand integrated digital catalog systems, provide continuous training for library administrators, and strengthen literacy networks among pesantren to ensure the sustainability of the program.

Abstract

This community service activity was motivated by the importance of Islamic philanthropy-based community empowerment as a form of da'wah bil-hal that promotes social transformation and community independence. The BAZNAS Zakat Village Program in Ciamis Regency integrates social, economic, educational, health, and religious empowerment. The method used was Participatory Action Research (PAR) through observation, participatory mentoring, interviews, documentation, and reflective evaluation involving program managers and beneficiaries. The results show that the program positively improved community welfare by strengthening economic capacity, increasing educational access, providing social protection for vulnerable groups, and reinforcing spiritual values. Based on Jim Ife’s theory, the program reflects three empowerment dimensions: enabling, empowering, and protecting. It also represents da'wah bil-hal through the values of real charity, exemplary conduct, social concern, and public welfare. Therefore, the Zakat Village Program is an effective and sustainable Islamic philanthropy-based empowerment model.

Abstract

Domestic violence remains a persistent social problem that negatively affects the physical, psychological, and social well-being of victims. In Ngaresrejo Village, Sidoarjo Regency, preliminary observations indicated that community members had limited knowledge regarding the forms of domestic violence, victims’ legal rights, and available legal protection mechanisms. This condition highlights the need for community-based legal education as a preventive strategy to strengthen public awareness and encourage early intervention in domestic violence cases. This community service program aimed to enhance legal awareness and strengthen the community’s capacity to prevent domestic violence through a participatory legal education approach grounded in community empowerment principles. The program involved 30 participants, including homemakers, community leaders, and youth representatives. Activities included legal counseling, interactive discussions, and case-based learning, designed to encourage active community participation and critical reflection on domestic violence issues. Program effectiveness was evaluated using pre-test and post-test assessments. The results demonstrated a substantial improvement in participants’ understanding of domestic violence and legal protection mechanisms. Before the intervention, 66.7% of participants were categorized as having a low level of understanding, and 33.3% a moderate level. Following the program, 90% of participants achieved a high level of understanding. Beyond increasing legal knowledge, the activity also fostered greater community awareness of the importance of preventing domestic violence. It strengthened participants’ readiness to contribute to creating a safer family and social environment. These findings suggest that participatory legal education is an effective community empowerment strategy for improving legal awareness and supporting sustainable domestic violence prevention efforts at the community level.
