Abstract

If a system is arranged and implemented clearly, correctly, systematically, and reported responsibly, it will simplify the users’ task. Therefore, the quality assurance system of education in primary schools is very important in accordance with existing procedures to maintain and advance the quality of education of a school. There needs to be an efficient, effective, and appropriate way to assure the quality of education in a school, namely primary schools. This study aims to describe the results of the analysis of the education quality assurance system at Bendosari SD N 2 (State Primary School 2), Sawit, Boyolali. The approach used in this research was a descriptive qualitative approach with case study design. This data collection technique was in the form of the results of observation activities, interview activities, questionnaire filling activities, and documentation activities. Sources of data in this study came from school residents such as: school committees, principals, teachers, students, parents of students, communities, and researchers. Data validity techniques to find the validity and validity of the data used data triangulation. Data analysis techniques used in this study were interactive qualitative data analysis by Miles and Huberman (2014) consisting of data reduction (summarizing data), data presentation (displaying data), and drawing conclusions from research. The results obtained in this study were to describe and explain that the quality assurance of education conducted by SD N 2 Bendosari, Sawit, Boyolali can be maintained properly and to improve the education quality assurance system in order to achieve a goal.

Abstract

This research is a qualitative descriptive study that reveals the implementation of humanistic mathematics lectures to the students from the Frontier (Terdepan), Remote (Terpencil) and Backward (Tertinggal) Areas (3T). The data were analyzed with qualitative data analysis techniques. This study aims to describe a model of humanistic mathematics lecture, explain the humanistic mathematics lectures, and explain the role of lecturers in humanistic mathematics lectures. The research subjects were students from the 3T area. 3T students are students from the most outermost regions in the territory of Indonesia. Mappi, Manokwari-Sorong, Timika, Asmat, and Mentawari Regencies. The results of the study stated that the humanistic mathematics learning model was using the PMRI approach. Steps of humanistic mathematics lectures: (1) introduction of the lectures, (2) understanding the material in groups, (3) groups interaction, (4) sharing opinions, (5) using the context in accordance with 3T students, (6) the freedom in searching for information, (7) students construct their own knowledge, (8) creating SANI : polite (santun), open (terbuka) and communicative (komunikatif) in lecturing, and (9) students were facilitated by positive, cooperative and open activities. The role of lecturers in humanistic mathematics lectures was as a facilitator and mediator.

Abstract

School quality is related to the supervision of the principal. Principal supervision is an effort to improve teaching and learning process or assistance to teachers in order to help students to be better in learning. This study aims to describe the supervision of principals in improving the performance of teachers in SDN Center Mawang, Bontomarannu District, Gowa Regency, South Sulawesi. This research was a qualitative research with a case study approach using observation method by looking at the activities in schools, interviews to find out the implementation of supervision in schools and documentation by looking at the results of supervision of principals or teacher performance assessment. The results of the study showed that the principal supervision, monitoring and assessment had not yet been implemented and still needed to be evaluated. The inhibiting factors of the principal supervision were internal and external obstacles.

Abstract

The purpose of this study are to describe the communication between teachers and parents in building the character of students at SDIT Ghilmani Ketintang Surabaya and to determine the impact of such communication. The research method used was descriptive qualitative, then data collection techniques used were interviews, observation, and documentation. The data analysis techniques used were data condensation, data display, and data verification which were validated by using the credibility test and the dependability test. The results of this study indicated that the picture of teacher and parent communication in building the character of students was as follows: 1) class groups created through social media such as whatsapp and so on, 2) communication through anecdot records or anecdotal notes used to record student behavior every day at school, the note was submitted to the parents of students when receiving report cards, 3) Communication through information books, and independent student communication, 4) home visit activities, namely teacher visited to student homes, to match the development of student behavior at school , 5) perenting activities, namely activities to bring in psychologists to provide direction to parents on how to properly educate children. The impacts of communication between teachers and parents were: 1) good cooperation between teachers and parents in building the character of students at home and at school, 2) there was a change in student character, because every day is monitored through information books, and independent student communication , 3) to increase parental knowledge on how to educate children well through parenting activities, 4) student achievement increased because all student activities were monitored through anecdote record . Recommendations from this study were 1) the results of this study can be used by schools, teachers, parents to carry out communication so as to improve the character of students at school and at home by intensifying their communication so that the character of students is built in accordance with the expectations and goals of teachers and parents, 2) other researchers can use as a reference for conducting similar research related to teacher and parent communication in building student character.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the students’ higher order thinking skills based on the concept of cognitive domain thinking in the revised version of  Bloom's taxonomy on the science with ecosystem themes at elementary schools. This study used descriptive research with qualitative approach. The subjects of this study were the fifth grade students at SDN Kepatihan 06 Jember, SDN Sumbersari 03 Jember, and SDN kebonsari 04 Jember. The data were collected through tests and interviews. The results of this research were the students’ higher order thinking skills in the elementary schools had various categories, namely low, medium and high categories. From the results of the study, it can be concluded that the students’ higher order thinking skills on the science with ecosystem theme at elementary schools  were low category with 86.08%, medium category with 12.66%, and high category with 1.26%. The low level of thinking ability was influenced by the level of understanding of the concepts in the ecosystem material that led students to have problem in understanding it.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of perceived supervisor support with the frequency of presenteeism based on gender and age in elementary school teachers in Gantung District, East Belitung Regency. The population of this study was 168 elementary school teachers, while the determination of the number of samples was obtained from the determination of the number of Isaac & Michael sample tables at a significance level of 5% so that a minimum sample of 114 teachers was obtained. The sampling method was a combination of convenience sampling and quota sampling techniques. The instruments used in this study were 6 items sub-scale perceived supervisor support developed from the Survey of Organizational Support (SPOS) (Eisenberger et al., 2001; Putri, 2007) and 1 item presenteeism’ frequency (Aronsson, et al., 2000). Based on the results of statistical data processing and analysis, it was known that the level of supervisors' support was in the high category with a percentage of 84%, while the frequency of presenteeism was in the low category with a percentage of 54%. Based on the results of hypothesis testing, it was known that the influence between perceived supervisor support on the frequency of presenteeism was only significant in elementary school teachers in middle adulthood (B = -. 019; t = -3.111; Sig = <. 05; R2 = 11.8%), especially the female teachers (B = - 023; t = -2.734; Sig = <. 05; R2 = 17.6%). The role of the principal in initiating, implementing and promoting a supportive climate in the school environment can be maximized as a form of support from superiors that is useful in intervening in presenteeism.

Abstract

Students’ reading skill has a big influence for students in determining their success in learning process. Students who are able to read well and faster will achieve good learning outcomes. By knowing the importance of reading skills, school must be able to build students’ reading culture. This study aims to find out the principal's strategy in building the students’ reading culture. This research used a qualitative descriptive approach. This research located at SDN 131 / IV Jambi. The subjects of the research were the principal and the teacher. Data collection techniques were observation, interviews and documentation. Data analysis techniques were reduction, display and verification. The results showed that the principal's strategy in building students’ reading culture were carried out with habituation, exemplar, cooperation, provision of facilities and infrastructure as well as a reading clinic. This study concluded that the principal's strategy in building students’ reading culture in the school were by forming a reading habit before starting learning process, being an exemplar by reading along with teachers and students, providing reading culture clinics for teachers and students and building cooperation with institutions such as Tanoto Foundation.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a pop-up book media with the topic of how living things adapt to the environment in the fourth grade of elementary school whose validity had been tested. This research is a development research conducted using ADDIE model which consists of 5 stages, namely: (1) analysis, (2) design, (3) development, (4) implementation, and (5) evaluation. However, in this study the implementation and evaluation stage were not carried out due to limited resources, manpower, costs, and research time. The subject of this research was the pop-up book while the object of this study was the validity of the developed media. The data collection method in this study was a questionnaire. The instrument used to measure the validity of the media was a rating scale in the form of assessment sheet from the experts. The validation data of pop-up book that had been collected was analyzed using the mean formula to find out the average score of the validity of the pop-up book. The average value of the validity score of the pop-up book that has been validated by the experts was 4.90 with very good qualifications. Based on the results, it can be stated that the pop-up book that had been developed were declared as valid and applicable.

Abstract

Social studies tends to more memorize the subject matter which is quite extensive and broad in scope. In addition, social studies is less concerned with students’ thought processes and less including learning activities which can trigger students to be active. Thus, it caused the learning outcomes were less optimal. This study aims to determine the differences between learning outcomes of social science students who used active learning models card sort type with students who used conventional learning models at SDN Cikande 3. The research method used was quasi-experimental with nonequivalent control group design. Based on t-test calculation obtained tcount = 2,354 dan ttable = 2,020 with significance level 5% which means tcount > ttable (2,354 > 2,020), then Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. That means there is a difference between learning outcomes of social science for students who use active learning models card sort type with students who use conventional learning models.

Abstract

Penelitian deskriptif kuantitatif ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan karakter tanggung jawab siswa kelas V SD Negeri 136 Pekanbaru. Penelitian ini dilakukan karena kurangnya kesadaran siswa akan tanggung jawab di sekolah dan di rumah. Populasi penelitian yaitu seluruh siswa kelas V SD Negeri 136 Pekanbaru yang berjumlah 136 siswa dan sampel berjumlah 48 siswa. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan yaitu angket dan wawancara. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa siswa kelas V SDN 136 Pekanbaru bertanggung jawab baik di sekolah maupun di rumah. Ditunjukkan dari hasil analisis siswa mengerjakan PR sebanyak 74.48%, mengulangi pelajaran di rumah persentase sebanyak 58.68%, membantu orangtua di rumah persentase sebanyak 66.87%, mengerjakan tugas piket kelas sebesar 70.31%, mengerjakan tugas kelompok bersama dengan teman kelompok sebesar 68.75%, mengerjakan tugas individu sebesar 70.31%, menjaga kebersihan sekolah sebesar 69.44%, meminta maaf kepada teman jika bersalah sebesar 61.20%. Dapat disimpulkan siswa kelas V SD Negeri 136 Pekanbaru bertanggungjawab baik di rumah maupun di sekolah. Dengan demikian, pihak sekolah maupun guru hendaknya dapat lebih meningkatkan penanaman karakter tanggung jawab di sekolah.
