Abstract

A deep understanding of the effect of interest rate parity on the rupiah exchange rate is crucial in formulating appropriate economic policies that are responsive to the dynamics of the global financial market. Fluctuations in the rupiah exchange rate not only affect the purchasing power of the Indonesian people, but also capital in this country. This study aims to comprehensively examine the effect of interest rate parity on the rupiah exchange rate in Indonesia in the context of the global economy, using a regression analysis approach, historical data on nominal interest rates, international interest rates, and the rupiah exchange rate are collected and analyzed to determine the relationship between these variables. Based on the covered interest rate parity (CIRP) theory and the covered interest rate parity (UIP) theory, this research hypothesis is proposed to test whether the difference in interest rates between Indonesia and its trading partner countries has a significant effect on the rupiah exchange rate. The results of the analysis that have been carried out state that the relationship between the nominal interest rates of Indonesia and the United States has no impact on the Rupiah/Dollar exchange rate until 2023.

Abstract

Poverty is a structural problem that is still a major challenge in underdeveloped areas such as Sumba Island. The purpose of this research is to analyze how government spending in the education and health sectors affects the Human Development Index, as well as to explore its effect on poverty levels. This study uses a quantitative method with panel data covering four districts on Sumba Island during the period 2019 to 2024. The data used was obtained from the official report of the Central Statistics Agency and the Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budget document. The analysis in this study was carried out using panel data regression through a fixed-effect approach, which was determined based on the results of the Chow and Hausman test. The results obtained show that government spending on the education and health sectors has a positive and significant impact on the increase in the Human Development Index. In addition, the Human Development Index has a negative and significant effect on the poverty rate. These findings indicate that increased investment in basic services such as education and health is likely to drive human development and reduce poverty rates. Therefore, local governments need to focus budget policies on these sectors in a more targeted and sustainable manner.

Abstract

The tourism sector is the backbone of the economy in the Special Region of Yogyakarta Province. The COVID-19 pandemic has shown DIY's vulnerability to shocks in the tourism sector. The drastic decline in tourist visits during the pandemic resulted in a decline in PAD. This study examines the effect of the tourism sector on Local Government Revenue (Pendapatan Asli Daerah, PAD) in the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) using an annual panel dataset from 2018 to 2024 across five districts/cities in DIY. The independent variables include the number of tourist attractions, number of visitors, number of hotels and accommodations, and number of restaurants, while the dependent variable is the PAD value in billion rupiahs. A panel regression method was employed, and the Random Effect Model (REM) was selected based on the results of the Chow test, Hausman test, and Lagrange Multiplier test. The analysis reveals that the number of hotels and accommodations has a positive and significant effect on PAD, whereas the number of tourist attractions has a negative and significant effect. The numbers of visitors and restaurants show positive but statistically insignificant effects. These findings recommend strengthening accommodation management and improving the quality of tourist attractions as strategies to support PAD growth in DIY through the tourism sector.

Abstract

This study examines various variables that are thought to affect the Indonesian Happiness Index. The type of data used is secondary data in the form of panel data consisting of 34 provinces in Indonesia with observation years 2017 and 2021. The results of various panel data regression tests show that the most suitable model is the Fixed Effect Model (FEM). The results of the study conducted show that the Human Development Index has a significant and positive effect on the Happiness Index, and the Gender Inequality Index has a significant and negative effect on the Happiness Index. Meanwhile, Gross Regional Domestic Product and School Participation Rate 16 to 18 years old are not proven to affect the Happiness Index significantly. An interesting finding in this study is that Indonesian people tend to feel less happy when men and women are given equal equality, because basically people tend to still adhere to a patriarchal culture.

Abstract

Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) plays a pivotal role in Indonesia’s economic growth. However, its realization is significantly influenced by various economic factors, particularly macroeconomic stability. This study aims to analyze the impact of foreign direct investment (FDI) in the previous period, inflation, gross domestic product (GDP) in the previous period, and the economic crisis dummy on foreign direct investment (FDI) in Indonesia. The study utilizes annual time series data covering the period from 1995 to 2023. A quantitative approach is employed, applying a multiple regression model analyzed using the Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) method. The findings indicate that, simultaneously, foreign direct investment (FDI) in the previous period, inflation, gross domestic product (GDP) in the previous period, and the economic crisis dummy significantly influence foreign direct investment (FDI) in Indonesia. Partially, foreign direct investment (FDI) in the previous period has a significant and positive effect, inflation has a significant and negative effect, and gross domestic product (GDP) in the previous period has a significant and positive effect. Meanwhile, the economic crisis dummy does not have any significant impact on the constructed model.

Abstract

Regional revenue refers to all income received by a region, sourced from various components that contribute to the increase in the region's net wealth. High Regional Original Income (PAD) can be an indicator that the implementation of regional autonomy is effective, where local governments have the ability to finance various development activities independently without relying solely on funds from the central government. This study aims to analyze the impact of several factors on PAD in the regencies and cities of Banten Province from 2016 to 2020, using panel data regression analysis. The factors analyzed include Gross Regional Domestic Product (PDRB), population, government expenditure, and Regional Minimum Wage (UMR). The results of the validity test with the Fixed Effects model approach show that population size has a positive impact on PAD, meaning that the larger the population, the greater the potential revenue from taxes and levies. Conversely, government expenditure has a negative effect on PAD, indicating that an increase in government expenditure in the short term may reduce the PAD available to the region. Meanwhile, the PDRB and UMR variables did not show a significant impact on PAD during the analyzed period, highlighting the complexity of the relationship between economic factors and regional income, which requires further attention in regional development policies.
