Abstract

This article aims to analyses the leadership style of Muslim priest (kyai) in traditional Islamic boarding school (pesantren) seeing from Weber’s leadership theory in managing human resources, infrastructure, finance, and social capital in the pesantren for development. This research also intends to review the existence of selected traditional Islamic boarding school with the types of what Weber’s explain in his article. Using library study in a qualitative approach in nature on several sources, i.e., library books, documents and information on the internet. DDI Mangkoso in South Sulawesi province was selected due to its long history as Islamic institution and their renowned and charismatic and transformative kyai since their early years of establishment. The analysis in this research somehow managed to reveal that the three Weber’s patterns type is found in the leadership of kyai in several pesantrens around Indonesia including in DDI Mangkoso. Traditional leadership of DDI Mangkoso’s kyai is strongly influenced by the tradition of education in pesantren which respects kyai’s position as the leader and the founder of the pesantren. However, charismatic and transformative leadership through Anregurutta K.H. Abdul Rahman Ambo Dalle and KH Farid Wajedi were the two most influence styles among Kyai in DDI Mangkoso until now

Abstract

This research is intended to discuss the influence of poverty toward children learning motivation and explain the relation among motivation toward academic achievement in poor family in Langsa. Quantitative methodbeing applied on this research shows that the influence of poverty towards student academic achievement tends to be solid, so that the students education level are influenced by their family economic background. Moreover this condition will also influence the student learning motivation. Finally, the family with poverty tend to ignore their children education due to their daily needs is more important than thir children education

Abstract

Amid public concern about increasing radicalism and intolerance among Indonesianstudents, discussions on the importance of peaceful education came again to draw attention. Through a qualitative research, we found a method of peaceful education teaching that is intrinsic and based on local wisdom about the feminine attributes of God which can be internalized by students so that they have a culture of peace. Through this method, the Syukrillah Islamic Boarding School, Cipongkor, West Java, has taught a comprehensive understanding of religion, recognition of different opinions on religions, and feminine characteristics which are essential qualities desired in peaceful education. This article offers a new perspective of peaceful education by adopting a local wisdom concept that hopefully enriches the discussion of peaceful education.

Abstract

This study aims to find out familial education on the basis of Buddhist ethics and the relationship of Buddhist teachings in building a happy, prosperous family life. The foregoing rests upon the identification of texts from the Tipitaka / Tripitaka Scriptures related to Education in the Family and moral ethics (Sila), and the texts are subsequently analyzed and dissected using the theory of structural functionalism and hermeneutics. Based on the analysis of the aforesaid text data, it can be seen the role of moral ethics that must be put forward and become a guide in shaping a happy and prosperous family life. Education in the Family is a pattern or method that must be done by a Buddhist household. Based on ethics in managing hittasukkhaya life, it becomes the basis and guide in creating happy and prosperous home life (hitta sukkhaya). Moral ethics (Sila) is the basis and foundation and guide for householders in creating a happy and prosperous life in the face of various changes that occur in the current modern era.

Abstract

The era of globalization demands education institution to be adaptive, creative, and innovative, including Islamic boarding schools as the institutions of Islamic education which become the national cultural heritage. One of the innovative programs is capacity building as a series of strategies aimed at increasing efficiency, effectiveness, and responsiveness of performance. This study was directed to explore capacity building implementation at Darul Amin Islamic modern boarding school Southeast Aceh. A qualitative research approach with a case study as the research strategy was implemented. The results of the study showed that capacity building focused on three dimensions, namely (1) human resource development; (2) organizational strengthening, and (3) institutional reform. The principle of Darul Amin capacity building contained the elements of participation, repetition, relevance, transfer, and feedback. In the process of capacity building, there were four stages, namely (1) pre-formal stage (pilot education organization); (2) formal stage (potential education organization); (3) transitional stage (national standard education organization); and (4) autonomous stage (international standard education organization). Towards the existence of the institution, Darul Amin also made various efforts at various levels, namely the system level, organizational level, and individual level.

Abstract

Altruism is one part of the Islamic teachings to hone people’s care of others. Altruism da’wa in Islam as a form of teachings or principles should be taught to people from an early age or childhood. Altruistic character building can be started from the primary education environment. The purpose of this research was to describe the urgency and function of establishing the altruism character in the Ulil Albab Integrated Islamic Elementary School (SDIT) through the Islamic Character Camp. This research was conducted using a qualitative approach. Meanwhile, a theoretical sampling obtained the SDIT’s principal and ICC’s person in chief for interviews. The results showed that SDIT Ulil Albab held da’wa communication by repackaging altruism messages and methods adjusted to the target, namely elementary school students. Strengthening the messages of altruism on an ongoing basis with alternative and contemporary media is necessary for future research.

Abstract

This study aimed to describe the religious moderation of students at public colleges in Kalimantan on the basis of four indicators of moderation. The type of this study was a qualitative-quantitative descriptive research using concurrent embedded research model. The result of this study showed that the understanding, response, and religious method of students had a characteristic, namely moderate value. The level of moderate indicator in each aspect was higher than the indicator that was not moderate, or extreme. In the aspect of knowledge, students were not familiar enough with the tag line “religious moderation”, and the provision of the religious moderation material in the form of socialization or a forum of scientific discussion was still limited. In aspect of behavior, students showed tolerance, national commitment, rejecting violence, and accommodating local culture. In the aspect of the religious method, the students who were categorized as moderate in facing religious problems preferred to uphold moral values, character, and identity of Islam rahmatan lil alamin rather than use violence in solving problems. Facing the disruption era, most students could filter information they obtained and know how to process information they received wisely and responsibly, confirm and consider the truth first, and know the advantage of information before distributing it to many people.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop a Two Tier Multiple Choice Question Assessment instrument that is suitable for use in Pancadharma material and to find out the teachers and students’ responses to the instrument developed. This study was conducted using the RD method applying the steps from Borg and Gall. The locations of the study were at the State Junior High Schools 1 and 2 Keling in Jepara Regency. Data collection used questionnaires, test, interviews and documentation. The results of this study exhibited that the TTMCQ assessment instrument developed for the Pancadharma material had 92.22% of content validation; the reliability scores were 0.754 for first tier and 0.826 for two tier; the power of distinguishing questions was categorized into a good category with the percentage of 66.67% for the main questions, and 46.66% for the reason questions. The difficulty level test indicated that 40% of the multiple choice questions were easy and 53.33% of them were medium, and 60% of the reason questions were easy, and 33.33% of them were medium. The teachers and students’ responses to the TTMCQ instrument developed in the form of multiple-choice multiple-level questions were more complicated than those of regular multiple-choice questions; the form of the questions was good and neatly organized; and the form of the questions was more about children’s responsibility in terms of thinking and solving problems. Thus, the TTMCQ instrument that had been developed was included in the appropriate category to be used as an assessment instrument of the Pancadharma material.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the religious understanding of Islamic religious education teachers in DKI Jakarta. This study used a descriptive qualitative method. The conclusion of this study showed that the majority of Islamic Religious Education teachers in DKI Jakarta had a contextual understanding of religion. The implication is that they still make reasoning and ratio the dominant tool in understanding Islam so it is hoped that they will always pay attention to the conditions and situations in which Islam is developed.

Abstract

The purposes of this study were to describe the efforts of schools in instilling Spiritual Intelligence (SI) into students and to determine the level of students’ SI in Islamic Primary Schools (IPS). This study used a descriptive qualitative-quantitative method resting upon a phenomenological approach with data collection techniques using interviews and observations to teachers and students, as well as the SI statement questionnaire. The research was carried out at Takhasus Al-Qur’an Elementary School (SDTQ), Harapan Umat Integrated Islamic School (SDITHU), and Al-Ambary Integrated Islamic Elementary School (SDITA) located in Brebes Regency, Indonesia. The data were analyzed at 5 intervals according to Saifuddin Azwar in a quantitative form. The results showed that the processes of instilling SI in SDI were carried out by establishing a vision and mission with Islamic tagline, the implementation in curricular and extracurricular activities, and exemplaryness by the teachers. The average levels of SI in the three schools for the three categories of honesty, respect for parents and teachers, and respect for others lied in decending orders from SDTQ Al-Ikhlas, SDIT Harapan, to SDIT Al-Ambari. In addition, the study revealed the results that the SI predicate was “Very Good” for female students and “Good” for male students.
