Abstract

This research is intended to investigate how significant the effectiveness of AVE in which YouTube as the platform adopted being compared to the use of another media, i.e. Audio-Picture Series Exposure towards learners’ speaking skill. In order to achieve the purposes of the study, this study entails subjects taken from the population of SMK Budi Mulya Pakisaji by selecting 20 samples and 18 samples for control and experimental group respectively in which the former group was taught using Audio-Picture Series Exposure, while the latter one using AVE (YouTube). The researcher provided similar treatment and topic during the implementation of each exposure. The results show that both groups proved major improvement. Despite the performance improvement, since the result of independent sample t-test was 0.379, it attests that the difference between the groups was insignificant as the result was higher than the significance level set at .05. Such insignificance was apparently posed by some probable factors such as how the control group provide the same effective impact during the lesson, and also caused by the probable limitation as for adopting the availability of apt videos attributed to the selected topic which culminated in over reusing the similar contents. All in all, this study is expected to be contributive and propitious for the teachers and learners as for delivering insights of determining the use of the most suitable media for learning activity. It is also hoped that further research could present more detailed and provide more reliably advantageous findings.

Abstract

This study was conducted to examine the types of slang words and the meaning of slang language used by members of Keluarga Besar group whatsapp. This research includes morphology and phonology. To find out types of slang in terms of phonology, Chrystal (1992) was employed to analyze the data. The researcher also used theory from Harimurti Kridaksana (1989) to analysis the tetun slang language in terms of morphology. From the analysis 17th September until 17th November 2019 used the theory from crystal (1992), it was found that from four types of slang languages in terms of phonology, there are three kinds of slang languages applied by the members of Keluarga Besar group whatsapp. 115 times of occurrence was found in their conversations, divided into: addition (15), replacement (2), sound transposition divided as: word reversal (80), PVB (14), insert one letter (2), sound change (2). While for morphology process,it was found that from four types of slang words in terms of morphology, there are two kinds of slang language applied by the members of Keluarga Besar group whatsapp. 13 times of occurrence was found in their conversations divided into: prefix (11), infix (1), and reduplication (2).

Abstract

Abstract This study entitled “Lesbianism as Portrayed in Clare Lydon’s This London Love.” This study explains about the causes and effects of lesbianism which found in the novel This London Love by Clare Lydon. The purpose of this study is to find out the causes of lesbianism experienced by the two main characters and effects of lesbianism experienced by the two main characters. This study uses Uzoeshi’s theory to analyze the causes and effects of lesbianism in a novel in line with Queer Theory. In analyzing this thesis, the writers use qualitative descriptive method that presents all data in the form of words and sentences and use library research as a way to collect data by reading and selecting quotations from the novel This London Love. From this research it is found that the two main characters in the novel experienced four causes of lesbianism which are inadequate parenting, associating with lesbians, heterophobic, and looking masculine; and two effects of lesbianism which are alcoholism and jealous reactions. So, hopefully this research is expected to be able to become a reference which can provide useful information child abuse and for people to prevent the act of child sexual abuse and help the victims. Abstract

The objective of the study was to examine the Syntactic Object representations found within Amharic sentences classified by their structure. A descriptive analysis was employed to interpret the sentence structures. The data were collected from the native speakers of Awi people (9 males, 7 females) based on their day today outgoing acts, and from different texts. By purposive sampling, 20 sentences were selected, arranged, and described. The method of data analysis employed in this study was Labeling Algorithm {XP, YP}. By modifying SO (raising XP) there exists only one and at least two visible Verbal heads. Results indicated that sentences in terms of their forms, forming Syntactic Object representations they contain were different. On the other hand, each sentence types share Syntactic Object representations that include Noun Phrase (NP), Verb Phrase (VP), Determiner Phrases (DPs) Prepositional phrase (PP), Adverbial Phrase (ADVP), and Adjectival Phrase (AP). Finally, the study recommended a further research how labeling Algorithm {XP, H} and {X, Y} works to describe the label of Syntactic Object representations found within sentences in Awgni.

Abstract

The goal of this article is to review studies that investigated the Listen–Read– Discuss (LRD) strategy towards students’ reading comprehension. In understanding the meaning from a passage, the reader wants a good strategy for comprehension. There were varieties of reading strategies developed by experts all around the world, but the researcher focused on one of the strategies called the L–R–D strategy. L–R–D is a strategy that introduces students’ prior knowledge before they start reading, during, and after reading by seeing the teacher’s lecture, reading a selected text, and discuss it with their classmates. L–R–D may help students convey the author’s messages with their own words, increase their comprehension, and also help students to remember what they read. The L–R–D strategy could be beneficial as it is an engaging strategy for readers who are struggling with reading comprehension. Because the materials are done orally, students who are not able to read the whole passage at least can understand a little information from the passage. For students who have low proficiency in background knowledge about the reading passage, they could obtain through the listening phase where after that they could comprehend the passage in the reading phase.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Changes of curriculum are reasonable to continue to be better. These changes need to be known and well accepted by students as one form of achieving learning goals. One way to find out whether the curriculum is well received or not by undergraduate students of Chinese Education Study Program of Malang Learning University , is through the current level of curriculum effectiveness. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of Chinese Language Education Study Program Curriculum in Malang State University . The method used in this research is descriptive quantitative, while the instrument used in this study is to use the 汉语 水平 考试 (年级) test [Hànyǔ shuǐpíng kǎoshì (sān niánjí)]. Subjects in this study were all first-year, second-year and third-year students of Mandarin language education at State University of Malang. This study uses product moment correlation analysis using the Pearson formula. The results showed that the curriculum used was effective in improving Mandarin language skills of Chinese Language Education students at Malang State University.

Abstract

Reading comparison and contrast texts in English language teaching (ELT) program was developed which ensured a range of students could be facilitated with instructional materials for their course and level of study. These materials have been developed around the concept of educational inclusion, intercultural communication and information and communication technology (ICT) utilization which can be combined into whole units of learning (topics), teaching and learning activities and media, and ultimately a student book, student work book, and lecturer guide. On the basis of the underlying philosophy from the new curriculum of the study program, we considered effective instruction to be a key element in engaging students with reading materials. There were six stages of R&D method from Borg and Gall (2003) modified by the researchers consist of need analysis, developing material, expert validation, revision, try out, and the final product. Three instruments consist of informal interview, expert’s validation checklist, and questionnaire for the product try out were utilized to develop reading comprehension instructional materials. The products consisted of student book chapter, student workbook chapter, and lecturer manual book chapter of reading comparison, and contrast texts. In consequence, the key aim of this development was to stimulate and engage students, fostering better involvement with the reading comprehension materials and hence better learning.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menunjukkan bentuk kritik sosial dan pengaruh dalam kelas sosial yang terjadi pada masyarakat dari berbagai kalangan, haltersebut ditunjukkan pada naskah drama yang berjudul Sampah Negeri karya H. Adjim Arjadi. Untuk menjawab rumusan permasalahan tersebut penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan analisis sosiologi sastra oleh Anwar dan syam. objektifikasi oleh Barbara Frederickson dan Tomi-Ann Roberts. Sumber data penelitian ini diperoleh dari dialog antar tokoh dalam naskah drama Sampah Negeri karya H. Adjim Arjadi yang menggambarkan adanya kritik sosial dalam lapisan masyarakat. Proses pengumpulan data menggunakan teknik simak catat dengan beberapa langkah yaitu: Teknik simak dan catat ini mengandung langkah-langkah yaitu ; pertama, Membaca naskah drama dengan teliti. Kedua, cara memahami makna dan, mencatat data yang mengandung bentuk kritik sosial. Ketiga, memaparkan isi naskah drama dan menginterpretasikanya sesuai dengan teori dan pendekatan sosiologi sastra.

Abstract

The aims of this paper were to depict how the implication of summarizing strategy on students’ reading comprehension and how the implication of summarizing strategy can improve the reading comprehension. This research was descriptive qualitative using observation, interview and questionnaire as instrument in gathering the data. The participants of this research were 26 students of English department of Universitas Kanjuruhan Malang who joined Extensive Reading class. The steps in gathering the data, the students were asked to read the 5 minutes everyday, the topic was free based on students’ preferences. After reading, they have to make a summary in their reading journal. The students’ progress will be reported once a week. They have to retell their understanding to their friends in the classroom. The result showed that the students comprehension raised from week to week. It can be indicated from the result of students’ summary in week 1. They tended to copy and paste the reading text in their reading journal. The progress can be seen after they did summarize in week-5. Students tended to write the content of the text based on their own words. It means through applying strategy summarizing, students can improve their reading comprehension well. Based on the questionnaire result, students were motivated to read more. It can be concluded that using summarizing as strategy in reading increases students’ reading comprehension.

Abstract

Kata Kunci: keterampilan mengajar guru , budaya sekolah, gerakan literasi Dalam pelaksanaan gerakan literasi sekolah, tidak terlepas dari peran seluruh warga sekolah untuk mendukung tujuan gerakan literasi tersebut, saat observasi ditemukan ada beberapa factor yang mendasari dalam mempengaruhi gerakan literasi sekolah, tujuan dari penulisan ini untuk mengetahui : 1) Pengaruh Keterampilan Mnegajar guru PKn Terhadap Gerakan Literasi sekolah, 2) Pengaruh Budaya Sekolah Terhadap Gerakan Literasi Sekolah, 3) Pengaruh Keterampilan Mengajar Guru PKN dan Budaya Sekolah SMKN 2 Boyolangu Tulungagung Terhadap Gerakan Literasi Sekolah . Dalam penelitian ini menggunakan penelitian kuantitatif, populasinya adalah Siswa kelas 10 SMKN 2 Boyolangu. Teknik pengambilan sampel menggunakan teknik sampling purposive yaitu pengambilan sampel dengan pertimbangan atau kriteria tertentu. Teknik pengumpulan data dengan menggunakan metode angket tertutup. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan adalah regresi linier berganda, uji t & uji F. Dalam penelitian ini variabel bebas X1 (Keterampilan Mengajar Guru PKn), X2 (Budaya Sekolah SMKN 2 Boyoalngu) dan untuk variabel terikat Y (Gerakan Literasi Sekolah). Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa secara parsial Keterampilan mengajar guru Pkn (X1) berpengaruh tidak signifikan (Y) dengan nilai thitung 0.504 < ttabel 2,009 sedangkan Budaya Sekolah SMKN 2 Boyolangu (X2) berpengaruh signiffikan (Y) dengan nilai thitung 6.905 > ttabel 2,009. Secara simultan terdapat Pengaruh keterampilan mengajar guru PKn dan Budaya sekolah SMKN 2 Boyolangu terhdap gerakan literasi sekolah dengan nilai Fhitung 108,367 > Ftabel 3,20. Koefisien korelasi R sebesar 0,822 dan nilai determinan pada kolom Adjusted R Square sebesar 0,814 atau sebesar 81,4% perubahan pada variabel Y dipengaruhi oleh perubahan variabel X1 dan variabel X2.
