Abstract

As technology emerges so fast and the demands of curriculum to integrate technology and innovation into classrooms, teachers are pushed to penetrate technology and bring the internet to everyday talks with the students. In accordance, using the euphoria of digital natives, students are also pushed to absorb and adjust themselves to growth of technology. In turn, there is no specific course on the use of the internet like the 90s curriculum had in the university level. However, the fact that not so many students bring laptop to campus everyday might indicate that they did not use the internet for learning outside classroom intensively. This study aims at describing how much internet literacy that students have. After analyzing the questionnaire descriptively, it was found that the participants of this study had poor internet literacy, in terms of the use of email, the use of social media, and the use of English in social media. Abstract

The aims of this paper were to depict how the implication of summarizing strategy on students’ reading comprehension and how the implication of summarizing strategy can improve the reading comprehension. This research was descriptive qualitative using observation, interview and questionnaire as instrument in gathering the data. The participants of this research were 26 students of English department of Universitas Kanjuruhan Malang who joined Extensive Reading class. The steps in gathering the data, the students were asked to read the 5 minutes everyday, the topic was free based on students’ preferences. After reading, they have to make a summary in their reading journal. The students’ progress will be reported once a week. They have to retell their understanding to their friends in the classroom. The result showed that the students comprehension raised from week to week. It can be indicated from the result of students’ summary in week 1. They tended to copy and paste the reading text in their reading journal. The progress can be seen after they did summarize in week-5. Students tended to write the content of the text based on their own words. It means through applying strategy summarizing, students can improve their reading comprehension well. Based on the questionnaire result, students were motivated to read more. It can be concluded that using summarizing as strategy in reading increases students’ reading comprehension.

Abstract

TK Islam Al-Ghaffar adalah salah satu TK yang berada di Desa Mulyoagung Kecamatan Dau Kabupaten Malang Jawa Timur, terbatasnya APE yang ada disekolah menjadikan permasalahan tersendiri dalam proses belajar mengajar, sehingga siswa kerap kali diajarkan dengan menggunakan buku paket yang telah di sediakan oleh sekolah. Hal ini menyebabkan siswa kurang antusias dalam mempelajari hal baru karena dianggap kurang menarik dan menyenangkan. Tujuan dari kegiatan ini adalah memberikan wawasan dan pelatihan pembuatan Busy Book sebagai media pembelajaran yang sesuai dengan topik dan usia anak TK. Metode yang digunakan dalam pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah: pertama, Pemberian pengetahuan dan wawasan tentang pentingnya media dan penerapannya dalam proses belajar mengajar. Kedua, pengenalan Busy Book sebagai media pembelajaran yang dapat diterapkan dalam kelas, dan yang terakhir workshop pembuatan Busy Book beserta penentuan langkah-langkah pembelajaran dalam kelas. Hasil dari kegiatan ini adalah guru memiliki wawasan tentang pentingnya media pembelajaran bagi siswa sesuai dengan usianya. Kedua, guru juga mampu membuat dan mengembangkan ide mereka menjadi sebuah kegiatan siswa berdasarkan tema dalam Busy Book. Dari hasil evaluasi pada akhir kegiatan, dapat disimpulkan bahwa kegiatan abdimas berjalan dengan lancar dan sukses, semua peserta mengikuti kegiatan dengan baik sampai kegiatan berakhir.TK Islam Al-Ghaffar is a school located in Mulyoagung, Dau, Malang, East Java, Indonesia. Limited media is the main problem in the teaching-learning process. Teachers ever use the package book in teaching their students so that the students think that the process of learning was not fun, and they cannot enjoy, were not enthusiastic in learning new things. This community service aimed was to train teachers in making Busy Book as media, and the contents were suited to the topic and the students’ age. The method applied in this community service were; first, introduce the teachers the importance of media in the teaching-learning process. Second, introduce Busy Book as a media in teaching young learners, and the last is a workshop in making Busy Book and the way in teaching. The result of this activity is that the teachers had insight into the importance of learning media based on their age. Besides, teachers were also able to make and develop their ideas into Busy Book or student activities based on a theme. From the results of the evaluation at the end of the activity, it can be concluded that the community service went smoothly and successfully. It can be indicated that all participants followed the whole activity.

Abstract

The goal of this study was to examine the students’ perceptions on the use of E-learning as an educational method, moreover to identify the benefit and challenges of using E-learning as an educational method in the English Education Department 2019 intake at Universitas PGRI Kanjuruhan Malang. In this research, the researchers used the qualitative method. The subject of this research was 40 students of the English Education Department 2019 intake. The data were collected through questionnaires to 40 students and interviewed by ten participants. The data were analyzed by using data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusions/verification. The finding showed that of the 40 students who filled out the questionnaire, 7 students stated strongly agree and 31 students agreed that they had experience using E-learning. This means that most of the participants who have filled out the questionnaire have experience using E-learning and there are several supporting facilities for using E-learning. The students felt that E-learning is useful and interesting to use, E-learning can also add new knowledge about technology that has never been obtained before, etc. Furthermore, the problems faced by the students in using E Learning were limited availability of internet access, the students felt bored, students' learning motivation was reduced, and students found difficulty to understand the lessons.

Abstract

Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) is a relatively new program, so there are still many obstacles in the process of preparation, implementation, and evaluation. This study aims to see students' motives and perceptions of the implementation of the MBKM program they have carried out in preparation for facing competition in the business / industrial world (DUDI). This research applies quantitative methods with exploratory designs. The respondents in the study were 62 students of the English Literature Study Program at PGRI Kanjuruhan University malang semesters 1, 3, 5, and 7 who were selected using stratification sampling techniques. This study indicates that students get many benefits from MBKM regardless of the obstacles and concerns they face. The MBKM program brings students closer to the business and industrial world because they can directly experience work life. Students have confidence that they can compete in business and industry after they graduate, so they think that MBKM benefits soft skills and hard skills according to their respective passions.

Abstract

Teaching material modules in English for primary school can be easily obtained as it is already included in the digital era. However, finding appropriate ones for the instructional process for learners whose internet connection is difficult remains low. Therefore, this research aims to produce a valid and feasible English E-module as a learning medium. The ADDIE approach is used, which stands for analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The study tested validity by material, media, and language validators to determine the quality of the media developed. The results of this study are that the overall average validation of material is 77.2%, media validation is 78.5%, and language validation gets 87.5% with the "Excellent" category. Next, to determine the feasibility of the English E-module researchers analyzed English teachers and students of grade 5A. Results obtained from English teachers got 81.5% and from 5A students got 88.4% with the "Excellent" category. The English E-module as the learning media developed has been valid and feasible. Thus, English teachers for primary school and EFL learners may take advantage to make use of the module. Other researchers should add more skills such as listening by providing audio files and using different levels for the next study.

Abstract

To respond to the demands of the world of work or industry that require graduates who have 21st century competencies, namely communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity (4Cs). Students of the English Literature Study Program need to be equipped with these competencies through learning activities and learning models that support especially in the English for Tourism 1 course. One learning model that can help in developing 4C skills is Project-Based Learning (PjBL). With the application of the PjBL model, students can build collaboration, communication, critical thinking and creativity skills. This study aims to describe the implementation of project-based learning (PjBL) as a reinforcement for students to be ready to work in the tourism industry. In addition, it is also necessary to know students' perceptions during the implementation of PjBL towards their readiness for a career in the tourism industry. This research used qualitative descriptive approach. The subjects of this research were 20 students in the English for Tourism I course at the English Literature Study Program, Faculty of Language and Literature, Universitas PGRI Kanjuruhan Malang. The research subjects worked in groups to create a tour package project. The implementation of the PjBL learning model was observed using observation sheets, and questionnaires to explore data on students' perceptions of the implementation of PjBL on their readiness to work in the tourism industry. The result of this study showed that students had positive perceptions of the implementation of project-based learning. Most of the students agree that the implementation of project-based learning improves their communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity. Moreover, after doing the project, 45% of the participant strongly agreed, and 40% agreed that the implementation of PjBL improved their readiness to work in the tourism industry.

Abstract

The aim of the study is to find out the types of racial discrimination in the film Max Havelaar and to find out the causes of racial discrimination in the film Max Havelaar. The study used a descriptive qualitative design. Descriptive qualitative design is used to describe and explain what has been interpreted from the research object. The researchers conducted the research by watching the film "Max Havelaar" several times and used a dictionary to check the data, identify, classify and conclude the data, and other tools used note taking. The researchers processed the data in the form of a dialogue. The data analysis process included data reduction, data presentation, inference/verification and triangulation. The data collected was then verified by an expert validator. The findings of this study are; 1) There are four types of racial discrimination found in the Max Havelaar film, namely; verbal antagonism discrimination, physical attack discrimination, extermination discrimination, and the last one is segregation. 2) There are four causes of racial discrimination in Max Havelaar film, namely; internal racism, institutional racism, systemic racism and interpersonal racism. In conclusion, the researchers hope they can expand the racial discrimination, such as structural discrimination, impact of racial discrimination, and the cases of racial discrimination in Indonesia today.

Abstract

Dalam era digital ini, guru perlu beradaptasi dengan perkembangan teknologi untuk memastikan efektivitas pembelajaran yang sesuai tuntutan zaman, dengan mengeksplorasi teknologi dalam pembuatan media pembelajaran interaktif. Untuk itu, kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat dilakukan dengan tujuan meningkatkan literasi digital dan kompetensi guru dalam memanfaatkan teknologi untuk membuat media pembelajaran interaktif. Tahap pelaksanaan kegiatan yaitu pengumpulan data, penyusunan materi, pelaksanaan pelatihan dan evaluasi. Peserta pelatihan adalah guru SDN Bandungrejosari 1 Malang. Materi pelatihan meliputi urgensi teknologi dalam pembelajaran, literasi digital guru serta pemanfaatan teknologi digital H5P dan Kahoot!. Pelatihan dilakukan dengan metode penyuluhan, demonstrasi, dan simulasi. Di akhir kegiatan dilakukan evaluasi untuk mengetahui keberhasilan kegiatan dengan mengukur kehadiran peserta, pemahaman materi, dan kemampuan dalam membuat media pembelajaran interaktif. Hasil evaluasi kegiatan menunjukkan keberhasilan pelatihan dengan partisipasi peserta >80%, serta pemahaman dan kemampuan praktis membuat media pembelajaran interaktif. Selain itu, kegiatan ini juga mendapat tanggapan positif dari peserta dan kepala sekolah. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa pelatihan semacam ini penting untuk meningkatkan literasi digital dan ketrampilan guru di era digital abad 21.

Abstract

The pupose of this study was to understand students' perceptions about potential and benefits of improving Extending Concept Through Language Activities (ECOLA) method as a tool for improving students' reading comprehension skill. This study used a descriptive qualitative with the subjects of 19 students of the 10th grade of Vocational High School of SMK Islam Gondanglegi. Data collection was carried out through questionnaire based on likert scale and interview. In collecting data, questionnaire were made to collect information on respondents’ perceptions of the ECOLA method and its impact on their reading comprehension skills, while the interview were made to obtain further information regarding students perceptions about using the ECOLA method. Based on the analysis of the results, researcher concluded that the ECOLA method generally has positive acceptance for improving reading comprehension skills. This is evident from the results of the questionnaire which shows the high motivation and enthusiasm of the participants. 65% of respondents agreed that this method had improved their reading comprehension skills. Additionally, 80% of respondents agreed that ECOLA helped them understand reading material better. Likewise, in interviews, participants expressed appreciation and satisfaction with ECOLA's approach, which includes interactive discussions and enhanced learning experiences.
