<![CDATA[This paper highlights the benefits of implementing Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) in teaching-learning of four skills of English. TBLT focuses on how English language is applied in accomplishing a certain task. TBLT also cultivates studenys’ self-efficacy and enthusiasm in learning. Task-based activities create advantageous atmospheres in language learning since they focus on the outcomes of learning by maximizing the use of Engliah language. Furthermore, this paper discusses the essence, the purposes, and the effects of TBLT in enhancing students’ four skills of English. <![CDATA[This research analyzes the grammatical errors in spoken English of customer services of Malang Tourist Information Center. The objectives of this research are to determine the types of errors and the cause of errors spoken by the customer services. The data were collected from four customer services by recording their conversation between them and the tourists. The study only focuses on the customer service’s utterances. The design of this research is descriptive qualitative research and the instrument is researcher herself. The finding of this research showed that the most dominant error was error of omission with 44 numbers (44%), followed by error of selection with 38 numbers (35%), error of ordering with 14 numbers (12%), and error of addition with 8 numbers (9%). The research also investigated that the causes of errors spoken by customer services were interlingua and intralingua transfer. Interlingua transfer was considered as the major cause of errors of customer services of Malang Tourist Information Center. Keywords: grammatical errors, error analysis, utterances]]>

<![CDATA[As technology emerges so fast and the demands of curriculum to integrate technology and innovation into classrooms, teachers are pushed to penetrate technology and bring the internet to everyday talks with the students. In accordance, using the euphoria of digital natives, students are also pushed to absorb and adjust themselves to growth of technology. In turn, there is no specific course on the use of the internet like the 90s curriculum had in the university level. However, the fact that not so many students bring laptop to campus everyday might indicate that they did not use the internet for learning outside classroom intensively. This study aims at describing how much internet literacy that students have. After analyzing the questionnaire descriptively, it was found that the participants of this study had poor internet literacy, in terms of the use of email, the use of social media, and the use of English in social media. <![CDATA[This paper investigated frequent collocations used by English learners. Specifically, it is a corpus-based study which focuses on the frequencies of 15 pairs of adjective-noun and noun-adjective collocations. The frequency was examined in two corpora, namely the Corpus of Contemporary American English (COCA) and the British National Corpus managed by Brigham Young University (BYU-BNC). The collocations are presented in the form of pairs to give the comparisons of frequencies between frequently used collocations and less frequently used ones, as seen in the corpora although they have a similar meaning. The present study aims to help English learners to be familiar with the more appropriate word choice used in their writing and speaking.]]>

<![CDATA[This research seeks to develop an English for Transportation (EnTra) application that can help cadets to master English transportation more easily. The design of this research is the ADDIE model development research. The following steps describe the research and development. (1). Conduct a needs analysis through preliminary research activities. (2). Planning in the form of product and participant determination. (3). The product to be developed is the English for Transportation (EnTra) application. (4). Expert validation in the form of expert / practitioner ratings of the Entra application includes format, language, illustrations and content, as well as multimedia experts, because the product produced is an android application. (5). Implementation of the product to the real target. (6) Product evaluation. The results of this study indicate that, the application developed has been tested and validated by experts and categorized very qualified, with detailed results as follows: Material experts with an average of 4.55 or 90.91%, media experts with a mean of 4.31 or 86.26%, and cadets with an average of 4.03 or 80.53%.]]>

<![CDATA[The title of this research is “The Psychological Impacts of Sexual Abuse Experienced by The Main Character of K.L Randis’ Novel Spilled Milk”. This study aims to determine the psychological impact of children on sexual abuse experienced by children. This research examines the phenomena of child abuse especially for sexual abuse and aim to reveal that literary work reflects social reality. The object of this research is “Spilled Milk” This novel shows that sexual abuse against children is a relationship between a child and an older person where the child is used as a satisfying object for the sexual needs of the offender. The method of this research that is used is Descriptive Qualitative. Data were obtained from words, phrases, clauses, or sentences in primary data. Data were analyzed by literary psychology approach and psychological theory. The psychological theories that are used in this thesis are the psychological impacts of sexual abuse by SECASA. The results of the psychological impact found in novel “Spilled Milk” are fear, responsibility, guilt and shame, anger and flashback or nightmare. So, hopefully this research is expected to be able to become a reference which can provide useful information child abuse and for people to prevent the act of child sexual abuse and help the victims.]]>

<![CDATA[This study aimed at investigating the roles of debate technique with rebuttal type in a speaking class setting. It was motivated by the fact that EFL students tend to be passive in speaking activities in the classrooms. This present study applied quasi-experimental design by involving two groups of students: the experimental group and control group in which each group consisted of 35 students of a vocational high school in Malang, Indonesia. The findings suggest that the use of debate technique with rebuttal type empowers the learning activities to be more effective and interesting. It provides the issues in the pubic area and increases the critical thinking of the students. The implications and suggestions were also discussed.]]>

<![CDATA[This research was conducted to find out how the application of reciprocal teaching can improve student’s understanding in reading subject. The application of Reciprocal Teaching can help university students as prospective educators to be able to improve their creativity. This research used Classroom Action Research (CAR) which had four steps of research procedures namely planning, implementing, observing, and analyzing. The subjects of this study were fourth semester students of Kanjuruhan University of Malang who took critical reading course. To achieve the criteria for success, researchers took two cycles by adopting theories from Kemmis and Taggart. In the first cycle, students who achieved success criteria were 43.47%. However, the success criteria targeted by researchers were75%. In the second cycle the success rate of students reached 82.60%. The conclusion of this study is that teaching reading using reciprocal can increase student motivation and increase student interaction. Because interaction with other students and with lecturer increases, motivation to learn and confidence also increases, it can also improve student learning outcomes. Positive competitiveness is also shown by students bravely expressing their ideas quickly. The application of reciprocal teaching in the class has problems including controlling classroom situations, there are some students who rely on their friends in doing work, and there are some students who are a bit selfish and feel that working together in working on problems makes them slow because they have to explain their opinions and then put forward in front of the class.]]>

<![CDATA[Researching teacher talk during teaching and learning process of English is essential because it offers practical implications for the improvement of teaching and learning process. However, there are still few studies which try to compare types of talk used by lecturers who teach content and skill subjects. This research investigates the types and the dominant types of lecturer talk during the teaching and learning process at an English Education Department. The participants were two English lecturers at a private University in Malang who taught Vocabulary (skill subject) and Poetry (content subject) classes. The researchers used an audio recorder to record the utterances by the lecturers. The data were analyzed qualitatively by using FIAC (Flanders Interaction Analysis Category). The types of lecturer talk produced by the lecturer who taught Vocabulary were Ask question, Give direction, Give lecture, Accept or use students’ idea, Praise or encourage, and Criticize or justify authority. The types of lecturer talk produced by the lecturer who taught Poetry were Give lecture, Ask question, Accept or use students’ idea, Give direction, Praise or encourage, and Criticize or justify authority. The most dominant types of talk produced by the lecturer who taught Vocabulary were Ask question and Give direction but Give lecture was the most dominant types of talk produced by the lecturer who taught Poetry. This finding indicates that types of course taught by lecturers affect the kinds of talk produced by the lecturers.]]>

<![CDATA[Poetry is a literary media that is very dense of meaning. Poetry is also a medium for conveying ideas of a poet to be conveyed to the reader. In this paper the author will convey the explanation of the meaning poem “Bit}a>qah Hawiyyah” by Mahmud Darwisy using the study of semiotics. In this paper the presentation uses qualitative methods by library research and uses Riffaterre's semiotic theory. The formulation of the problem in this paper is how the form of the unity of meaning structure in the poem “Bit}a>qah Hawiyyah” by Mahmud Darwisy using Riffaterre's semiotic study. The purpose of this study was to determine the form of the unity of meaning structure in the poem “Bit}a>qah Hawiyyah” by Mahmud Darwisy using Riffaterre's semiotic study. The result of this research is the form of the unity of meaning structure in the poem “Bit}a>qah Hawiyyah” by Mahmud Darwisy is Nationalism and Patriotism which manifests in pride, love and maintenance of identity, homeland and ownership.]]>
