Abstract This paper presents the process of Chinese outward direct investment in Europe. A remarkable feature of the Chinese cross-border business expansion is the essential role of government in the internationalization of Chinese MNCs which was supported by official policy instruments, including the famous “go global†strategy that encouraged thousands of Chinese firms to invest abroad. It argues that the driving motive of Chinese firms to go abroad aimed at acquiring new skills, advanced technology, brands and supply chains that would enhance their competitive advantage in international as well as domestic markets. To this end, the Chinese investment in Europe has generally targeted few but major economies, namely Germany, UK and France. Merger and acquisitions has been the leading market entry mode resulting in huge takeovers characterizing Chinese investment in Europe. It is also apparent that the internationalization process of Chinese business companies did not follow the traditional Uppsala model as psychic distance and experiential knowledge didn’t play a role. Nevertheless, it is evident that the path-dependency of Chinese expatriates in European countries has made it difficult to learn and adapt to the local work environment that exhibits diverging and contrasting cultural values. This huge cross-cultural gap, often portrayed in the literature as “culture conflictâ€, constitutes the biggest challenge that Chinese companies face, in their international operations in general, and could undermine their effectiveness in doing business in European countries in particular.

In the Philippines, Sangguniang Kabataan (SK), an aspect of politics in the local government level provides spaces for youth’s meaningful participation in policy-making and governance. In this study we expand the cast of the domain of motivational studies to provide a new perspective on why youth participate in politics, the extent of their political participation and the relationship of the motivations to their political participation. Findings reveals that in terms of the overall motivations of the SK officials, the SK officials are both intrinsically and extrinsically motivated, but leans more on the intrinsic type of motivation. Although they are both intrinsically and extrinsically motivated, the extrinsic motivation of the SK officials is more highly self-determined. Moreover, results show they have an average to high levels of political participation. Lastly, the relationship between the motivations and political participation was measured. Results show that only the intrinsic motivation has a significant impact to the political participation of the SK officials. This goes to show the importance of Civic Education and Leadership development in developing motivations for leadership and political engagement of the youth.

The dawn of South Korean President Moon Jae-in’s New Southern Policy (NSP) has undeniably created drastic shifts in the region’s economic and political arena. It could be seen as South Korea’s effort to reach out to its neighbouring countries in the south through various exchanges. A study by Butsaban (2020) concludes that NSP can be considered as a foundation for Korea and a Southeast Asian nation to promote “co-prosperity and open up a wider horizon for cooperation.† This qualitative study employs policy document analysis as an approach. The NSP is utilized as the main document for this research. The researchers examined the NSP with respect to the locus of education as presented in the document. These are then discussed in relation to the setting and background. With these findings, the researchers identified prospects as avenues to further enhance NSP through the lens of education. Analysis of the locus of education reveals how NSP is generally heading southwards in pursuit of exchange. While education is present in some mandates, these are seen to be limited and insufficient in various contexts, mainly aimed at academic exchange and training. The researchers have identified further avenues to explore in the light of NSP’s approach to education. These include education and geopolitical stability, the increasing ASEAN populace, lifelong learning, and technology transfer. These are seen to be the pressing issues faced by the ASEAN region, to which growing needs merit immediate attention.

It has been a long debate that politicians should not be involved in any organizations which has a primary purpose to educate civil society. Indonesia student regiment (Menwa) is an example of the organization which functions as a vessel for Indonesian students to encourage engagement in the field of national defense and tri-dharma, a responsibility to give contributions while students in university. However, for over 6 years, Menwa has been led by a politician who also becomes an active board in a political party. Considering the basic function of Menwa, ethically Menwa should be led by a professional without any political interest to keep maintaining the purity of the purpose. Despite its negative impact, there is also a positive consequence. Politician who becomes a leader in the organization can share political knowledge and value to the members to become active citizens, particularly enhance the political participation of its members. This study aims to identify a relationship between supporting politician as the leader and three aspects of psychological orientation towards politics (POTP). Result shows that members who support the leader (politician) tend to have higher scores in political efficacy (PE) and political interest (PK), two fundamental variables which are needed in democratic country than the other groups.   Â

Organisasi Kesehatan Dunia (WHO) menetapkan COVID-19 sebagai pandemi bencana internasional.

This research aims to answer the reason behind the stalled progress of dispute settlement in East China Sea between Japan and China, despite a high initial commitment to cooperate under "2008 Japan-China Agreement on Cooperation for the Development of East China Sea Resources" framework. This research was done qualitatively by amassing reliable literatures and relevant official documents. In accomplishing the research objective, this article employs common-pool resource (CPR) and security dilemma concepts to analyze the collected data. This research finds that the reason why the 2008 Agreement, which intended to make East China Sea as common-pool resource for Japan and China, did not work is due to the lack of institutional supply and commitment. The insufficient institutional supply was occurred since Japan and China, as appropriators of the CPR, were seeking less binding and more flexible rules. Even though that maximum result could be attained through high commitment, both Japan and China were not assured about each other intentions. Thus, the cooperation is stalled.

This paper offers an analysis of crowdfunding adoption by political party in Indonesia to achieve its funding targets. This study's significance is that it will explore the phenomenon of the use of crowdfunding for political causes, which is an under-researched topic and provide a new contribution to knowledge that raises awareness of the potential and challenges of the use of crowdfunding by a political entity. By having a case study on Partai Solidaritas Indonesia (PSI), which is one of the political parties in Indonesia, this paper presents questions on the strength and weaknesses of PSI crowdfunding campaigns. It then draws analysis on the implications of this funding model beyond political votes. The findings suggest that PSI is not successful in managing its crowdfunding campaigns, and despite a high level of social media engagement, its campaign lacks coordination.
