Abstract

The biogass liquid waste originated from palm oil industry contains high nutrient and it can be used for growing microalgae such as Chlorella sp. To understand the effectiveness of the waste as a medium to grow Chlorella sp., a study was conducted from           September – October 2016. The culture was conducted in the outdoor scale. There were 4 treatments applied, namely P0 (0% waste), P1 (15% waste), P2 (20% waste), and P3 (25% waste). Parameters measured were the abundance and the biomass of Chlorella sp., nitrate and phosphate content, pH, TDS, and temperature. Results shown that the best growth of Chlorella sp. was in the P1, the abundance was 7,252,800 cells/ml and the biomass was    3.51 gr/L. The growth of Chlorella sp. was able to reduce the nitrate and phosphate concentration, from 11.1 to 1.51 mg/l (nitrate) and from 0.617 to 0.033 mg/l (phosphate) respectively. This fact indicates that the nutrient have been used for growing the microalgae. Based on data obtained, it can be concluded that the palm oil liquid waste can be used as nutrient source for Chlorella sp.Key words : palm oil industry liquid waste, nutrient, microalgae, Chlorella sp.

Abstract

Snakehead fish (Channa striata) inhabits the Sibam River that has polluted water and the Kulim River that has good water quality. As the quality of water affects the availability of food resources, it may influence the stomach content of the fish. A research aims to understand the stomach content of the fish was conducted on January-March 2017. The Index of Preponderance (IP) was calculated. There were 32 fishes from the Sibam River and 56 fishes from the Kulim River. Results shown that the main food of the snakehead fish was fish, IP value was 89% and 94% in the Sibam and Kulim Rivers respectively. Other types of food present in stomach of the Kulim’s fish were insect, bivalve and crustacean, but there was no crustacean in the Sibam’s fish. Data obtained shown that the water quality affect the availability of the snakehead fish food in general, as the fish food from the Kulim River is more various.Keyword : Sibam River, Kulim River, Stomach Content, Channa striata

Abstract

ABSTRACT The objective of the study was to examine the effect of varied steaming temperatures on the chemical composition of the fish flour (Periophthalmodonschlosseri). The method used was experimental and composed as Completely Randomized Design (CRD) by conducting the treatment of steaming the fish at different temperatures (60, 70, and 80 oC). The parameters assessed were the rendemen and the psycho-chemical characteristic of the fish flour. The results showed that nutrient proximate composition in fresh fish meat the dry based content of water 79.13% protein 92.83%, ash 4.54%, fat 1.13%, and carbohydrates1.50%. Steaming temperature 60oC was showing the best treatment, indicatedby yielded rendement 17.34%, the content of water 9.97%, protein 82.93%, fat 1.34% and ash 318%. The treatment of different steaming temperatures conducted was not affecting significantly to the physical appearance of fish flour, indicated by the similar aroma and texture characterized as brownish yellow color. The higher the temperature used, the darker the flour yielded color. Keywords: Mudskipper, flour, temperature, steaming

Abstract

Coast Sakera of Bintan regency of Riau Islands province has become location implementation research On July 2016, with a goal determine the oil content and the abundance of diatoms in each station and the relationship between oil content with the abundance of diatoms. The survey method was applied in four stations, each station consists of three sampling points. Based on the result, the hinghest average value of oil content was obtained at station 3 (0,3587 ppm) and the lowest was at station 4 (0,1238 ppm). Diatoms were found in the surface waters of coast Sakera were 12 species. Where the species most dominating is Isthmia sp 2 Nitzschia sp 1 and Nitzschia sp 2. Based on the result, the hinghest average value of diatoms was obtained at station 4 (104 ind/l) and the lowest was at station 3 (51 ind/l). The relationship between oil content with diatom abundances has weak negative correlation, wich mean increasingly high of oil content will decline the abundance of diatoms of coast Sakera. Keywords : Coast Sakera, abundance, oil, and diatoms

Abstract

The research was conducted from February 2016 to April 2017 and was aimed to determine the effect of adding different concentrations of detergent on the growth of bacterial populations in the ocean water column and to see the ratio of bacterial persisted capability in different lengths of dissection. This research used experimental method with Completely Randomized Design. Seawater samples were analyzed at Marine Microbiology Laboratory, Fisheries and Marine Faculty of Riau University. Based on the results of the study, from day 0 untill day 10 after given detergent with different concentrations, bacteria experienced a decreasing trend of growth, in day 15 untill day 20, the trend of bacterial growth contaminated by detergent with different concentration relatively increased to stagnant. Based on the result of this study the addition of different detergent concentration in each treatment affect the growth of heterotrophic bacteria population in the sea water, where the higher concentration of detergent added the lower the ability of bacteria to grow and the ability of heterotrophic bacteria to survive at different concentrations of detergent, it can be concluded that the ability of heterotrophic bacteria to grow from days 0 to 20 has decreased in each of its concentrations.   Keywords: heterotrophic bacteria, Surf detergent.
