Abstract

This research was conducted in June 2013 at Riau River Estuary inTanjungpinang City Riau Islands Province. This research aimed to find out themacrozoobenthos community structure and its relationship to seagrass vegetation. The method on the research was survey method. The existence of macrozoobenthosin this area showed the dynamic symbiosis among seagrass and marine organisms. The results also showed seagrass ecosystem had the high potential to be managed andused by communities and also increasing the fisheries productivity on coastal area.Species composition of macrozoobenthos in the area consisted of 8 species, i.e.Strombus sp, Cerithidea quadrata, Pina bicolor, Anadara sp, Anadara inflata,Atactodea striata, Asteroidea sp and Diadema sitosum. Two species of seagrassvegetation were found in this area, those were Enhalus acoroides, and Halophilaovalis. T-test analysis showed that the average of macrozoobenthos abundance oneach station differed unsignificantly (p>0,05). The regression analysis showed thatrelationship among seagrass vegetation diversity and macrozoobenthos abundancewas at r=0,35.Keywords: Riau River, Macrozoobenthos, Seagrass, Symbiont

Abstract

The study to observe the species composition and abundance on mudskipper fish was conducted in July 2013 in Dumai coastal waters of Riau Province, Indonesia. They study was carried out in providing the lack information on the biological aspects of the mudskipper from Indonesian seas in general, and of the riau’s coasts in particular. They study used a survey method by selecting 3 different stations as the sampling sites. Fish sampels were collected during the low tide. The quadrant were used in the field in facilitating the survey in fish abudance, whilst the identification was commenced in the Laboratory of Marine Biology of University of Riau. The resuld showed that a number of three species of the mudskipper were sucessfully recorded, i.e. Periopthalmodon schlosseri, Periopthalmus variabilis (Eggert) and Baleopthalmus boddarti (Pall). In terms of abudance, the highest, 0,1733 individuals/m2 was recorded in station I and the lowest 0,0867 individuals/m2, was found in stations III. Based on the diversity index (H’), it was reported that the Dumai coast had moderate diversity of the mudskipper. None of the fish was dominating the population since the dominance index (C) was very close to null from each station. It can be concluded that the habitats of mudskipper in Dumai coasts were in the state of unstable due to its E value in which also close to one.   Keywords : Mudskipper, species composition, abudance, Riau

Abstract

The research was carried out in April 2013 to analyze the content of heavy metal Pb, Cu and Zn in soft tissues and shells of hard clam (Meretrix meretrix) from coastal waters of Batubara and to find out the correlation between size and content of heavy metals in both hard and soft tissues, as well as to determine the safe level for consumption of this organism. The results showed that the content of heavy metals Pb in the shells is higher than in soft tissues while Cu and Zn is higher in the soft tissues. The average heavy metals content in soft tissues were different with size, where Pb (1,83 μg/g) and Cu (4,25 μg/g) was found to be higher in larger size and Zn (23,44 μg/g) was found to be higher in smaller size. In the shells Pb was higher in smaller size (2,96 μg/g), Cu was higher in larger size (4,35 μg/g) and Zn was higher in larger size (23,44 μg/g).
