Abstract

AbtracA study on the effect of total oil content on the epipelic diatom abundance were done in January to March 2018 in The Intertidal Zone of Kuala Tanjung Batubara District North Sumatera. Sediment samples were taken from 4 stations with different activities  and each stations was divided based on the intertidal zone (upper, middle, andlower). The result showed that total oil content the highest was station 4 (5377,1986 ppm)and the lowest was at station 2 (142,8497ppm).The highest abundance of epipelic diatom was found at station 2 (8933 ind/cm2).Epipelic diatom that were found in the intertidal zoneof Kuala Tanjung composing of 14 spesies. The total oil content in the intertidal zone was not different and total oil content between station was different. The epipelic diatom abundancein the intertidal zone was not differentand epipelic diatom abundance between station was different. Relationships between total oil content with epipelic diatom abundance in Kuala Tanjung were y= 7234,5 - 1570,7x; R2= 0,7432; r = 0,86. The oil content and epipelic diatom abundance has negative correlation, which means in creasing of oil content will cause a decrease the abundance of epipelic diatom in Kuala Tanjung. Keyword: In The Water of  Kuala Tanjung, Total Oil Content, Epipelic Diatom, Pollution

Abstract

ABSTRACT The purpose of this study is to see the appearance and performance of togok fishing gear at different current speed to predict the good current speed for processing the fishing gear’s operation. This study using the experimental method. From the result of experiments that have been done know the stronger the current speed then the stronger the reshuffle and movement of the togok fishing gear. At a current speed of 22.2 cm/sec the reshuffle and movement of the togok fishing gear seem stable. Meanwhile,at a current speed below 15 cm/sec, togok fishing gear should be taken from the waters because the flow of sea water is not strong and the catch is not maximal. Keywords: togok fishing gear, current speed, flume tank

Abstract

Abstract  Siak River is one of polluted rivers in Riau. High Pb concentration  in the water may affects aquatic organisms living in the river, including Hemibagrus nemurus. A study aims  to understand the Pb content in the gill, kidney and muscle of the fish captured in the  Siak River was conducted in February-March 2018. There were 3 stations, in the cruise line (St1), in the industrial ship building (St2) and in the residential area (St3). Samplings were conducted 3 times, once/ 2 days. Results shown that in the fish from each station, the concentration of Pb was relatively high.  The Pb concentration of Pb in the gill   was 10.8-20.8 mg/kg, in the kidney was 13.2-22.2 mg/kg  and in the muscle  was 1.7-3.5 mg/kg. The Pb content in the fish captured from the study areas was high and it is recommended that the fish should not be consumed. Key words : pollutant, plumbum, heavy metals, fresh water fish

Abstract

Abstract Nygaard Index can be used to determined trophic state of waters. Calculation of this index is based on the number of phytoplankton species such as Chlrococcales, Centric diatom, Myxophyceae, Euglenaphyceae and Desmidiaceae. To understand the trophic state of the PLTA Koto Panjang reservoir waters, a research has been conducted in March - April 2018. There were three sampling stations, namely station 1 (an area with 100-150 floating cages), station 2 (an area with 200-300 floating cages) and station 3 (an area with 946 floating cages). In each station there were three sampling points, in the surface, 3.5 m depth, and 7 m depth. Sampling were conducted 3 times, once/week. Water quality parameter measured were phytoplankton, transparency, temperature, pH, nitrate, phosphate, Dissolved Oxygen and free carbon dioxide. Results shown that there were 82 species of phytoplankton present, namely Myxophyceae (19 species), Chlorococcales (28 species), Centric Diatom (15 species), Euglenaphyceae (1 species) and Desmidiaceae (19 species). The water quality parameters were as follows: transparency 108-138 cm, temperature 31-320C, Dissolved Oxygen 1.8-6.0 mg/L, free carbondioxide 13.8-29.5 mg/L, nitrate 0.07-0.131 mg/L, phosphate 0.15-0.36 mg/L. Nygaard Index value of the waters was 3.1-3.7, and it can be categorized as eutrophic.  Keywords : Koto Panjang Dam, Water quality, Phytoplankton, Eutrophic
