Abstract

ABSTRACT            Periphyton is a microorganism that lives attached to a submerged substrate. This research aims to determine the type and abundance of periphyton in TepianBatu Lake and was conducted in June-July 2019. There are three sampling station, namely S1 (Inlet water channel connecting Lake TepianBatu with Kampar Kanan River), S2 (located floating net cages), S3 (there are water plants and oil palm plantations around the lake). Each station there were2 sampling points, namely the surface (20 cm from the surface of the water) and 2 Secchi (124 cm). The substrate is a glass substrate (8x3 cm2). Substrate placement done 1 week before sampling.Sampling was carried out 3 times with an interval of 1 week. Periphyton samples were collected by spraying glass substrates with distilled water. The periphytonwere preserved with lugol 1% and then identified using an identification book by Prescott (1974), Belcher and Swale (1978), Yunfang (1995), Bigg and Kilroy (2000). Water quality parameters measured were temperature, brightness, pH, dissolved oxygen, free carbondioxide, nitrate and phosphate. Periphyton types found were 24 types consisting of 4 classes, namely Bacillariophyceae class (10 types), Chlorophyceae (9 types), Cyanophyceae (4 types), and Eugelenophyceae (1 type). Total periphyton abundance found during the study ranged from 5022-13176 cells/cm2. The most common type is Melosirasp. Based on the type of periphyton, it was concluded that TepianBatu Lake can be catagorized as eutrophic waters. Keywords: Types, Abundance,Melosirasp, eutrophic

Abstract

ABSTRACTHemibagrus nemurus  is a type of freshwater fish that inhabit the Kampar River that has relatively good water quality and in the Siak River that has been polluted. As water quality affects the health status in general, the morphometric, meristic and growth pattern of H. nemurus  living in those river might be different. To understand the morphometric, meristic and growth pattern of this fish, a study has been conducted on April-June 2018. There were 63 fishes (114.65-340 mm TL and 13.56–279.93 g W) from the Kampar River and 54  fishes (154.37-320 mm TL and 32.12–222.76 g BW) from the Siak River. The were 29 characteristics measured and 6 meristical characteristics counted. The meristical characteristics were as follows: D. I.7, P. I.6, V.6, A.10-11, C.20-22. In general, there was almost no significant different in morphological characteristics of fish from both sampling area, but the fish from the Kampar River shown that their body was wider than that of the Siak’s fish. The length-weight relationship of H. nemurus from both sampling sites were b= 3.2  (positive allometric,  Kampar River) and b = 2.4 (negative allometric, Siak River). Keywords: Catfish, Morphological Characteristics, Meristical Characteristic, Growth Patterns.

Abstract

AbstractOne of the efficient and effective preservation methods is the addition of acid or silage (Hasan et al., 2001). This study aimed to evaluate the differences in the stability of the silage storage of catfish waste made with the addition of formic acid at pH 5 and pH 4. The method used in this research was experimental, with the addition of formic acid The results of pH and NPN analyzes were analyzed using paired T-test (paired samples test) with statistical software (SPSS) which then saw the significance value (p).until the silage reached pH 4 and pH 5 during storage for 21 days at room temperature. The parameters were physical character (colour and smell), pH analysis, NPN, proximate, and amino acids. The results showed that the addition of formic acid reached pH 4 and pH 5 significantly affected the pH stability value and the NPN value of catfish waste silage during storage at room temperature (± 29oC). The best treatment was the addition of formic acid to pH 4 on the 0th day as seen from the analysis of NPN and proximate (protein, fat, water, ash), with a brownish colour (does not change from the colour of catfish waste), has a sour aroma, pH value of 4, NPN 45.79%, protein 65.30 (% dw), fat 31.21 ( % dw), water 75.80 (% gw), ash 3.49 (% dw), and total amino acids 6.50%. Silage stability in the addition of formic acid to pH 4 and pH 5 during the storage period is relatively stable. Therefore, the addition of formic acid to the silage of catfish waste up to pH 5 is considered more efficient, has lower acidity so it is likely to be preferred as a feed mixture, and relatively cheaper because it uses less formic acid. Keywords: Fish guts, formic acid, pH, silage,  stability
