Abstract

Watas Hutan Lake is one of the oxbow lakes in the Kampar regency. This lake is overgrown by various types of water plants that almost cover the surface of the lake. This condition hamper the fishing activities in the lake. This research aims to discover the types and density of the aquatic plant in the lake and it was conducted from February to March 2015. Field sampling was done 2 times, a month period. The plants were then identified based on Van Steenis (1981).Result shown that there were 7 species of aquatic plants present and they are belonged to 4 classes, 7 families. They are Eichhornia crassipes, Pandanus sp., Colocasia sp., Cyperus sp., Ipomoea aquatica, Paspalum sp., and Salvinia natans. The most common plant Salvinia natans (37.6-56 organisms/m2, relative density 22.4-43.1 %), while the rarest was Ipomoea aquatica (3.3-27 organisms/m2, relative density 2.5-14.1 %). In general, the relative density of aquatic plants in the Watas Hutan Lake can be categorized as rare to medium.Keyword: Aquatic Plant, Density, Watas Hutan Lake

Abstract

This research was conducted on April to May 2009, in the Laboratory of Fish Nutrition and Experimental Pond, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science, University of Riau. The purpose of this research are to know the amount of fermented leucaena leaf flour as the alternative feed ingredient on growth of baung (Hemibragus nemurus) with Completely Randomized Design (CRD) was used with five different treatments; P0 (0 : 100%), P1 (10 : 90%), P2 (20 : 80%), P3 (30 : 70%), P4 (40:60%), and three replications. Result indicated that the leucaena leaf flour as the feed ingredient gave significant effect (P < 0.05) on disgebility of diets, feed efficiency, protein retentions, and growth specific. The highest disgebility of diets at P3 (30:70) with 62,96%, effiency feed at P3 (30:70) with 21,12 %, retention protein at P3 (30:70) with 13,45%, growth specific at P3 (30:70) with 1,93%. The quality of the water in the container maintenance temperature of 26-31oC, Dissolved Oxygen levels of 2,8-3.4 ppm, pH of 5-7.Key word : Diet, Growth, Fermented leucaena leaf, Hemibragus nemurus

Abstract

Ark cockle (Anadara inflata) is one of bivalve species found in Selat PanjangWaters. It is used as indicator of heavy metals pollution because of filter feedercharacteristic and of sedentary life mode. The objective of this study was to determine theconcentration of lead (Pb), Cuprum (Cu) , and Zincum (Zn) in ark cockle’s flesh and shellin Kronjo and Cituis. Heavy metals Pb, Cu, and Zn were analyzed by Atomic AbsorptionSpectrofotometer (AAS).The result showed that the consentration of Pb (3,81 μg/g) in ark cockle’s shell washigher than that of ark cockle’s flesh in contrary the consentration of Cu and Zn (6,03 μg/gand 7,54 μg/g) in ark cockle’s flesh was higher than concentration of Cu and Zn in arkcockle’s shell. Based on assisment of PWTI (Provisional Tolerable Weekly Intake) for heavymetals (Pb, Cu and Zn) in ark cockle A. inflata in Selat Panjang Waters, Meranti Island thatark cockle A. inflata safe to consumtion.Key words: Heavy Metals, Ark Cockle and Selat Panjang Waters

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the mineral content in freshwater mussel shell crude extractin varied shell sizes. The shell was categorized into three sizes, namely: small shell with the length of 7-8 cm (S), medium between 9-11 cm (M) and large between 13-14 cm (L). The laboratory analysis includedthe yield of shell crude extract, moisture content and the content of macro and micro minerals. The results showed that the freshwater mussel shell with the length of 7-8cm (S) had the lowest yield of shell crude extract 44,12%, but contained the highest mineral content, namely: macro minerals: calcium (Ca) 31.25%, magnesium (Mg) 0.29%, potassium (K) 3.24%, sodium (Na) 3.62%, phosphorus (P) 0.33%, and micro minerals: iron (Fe) 2.54 % and zinc (Zn) 0.91%.Keywords: Mineral, flour freshwater mussels shells, shells size

Abstract

Pangasius polyuranodon is one of freshwater fishes that inhabit the Siak River in Riau. This fish has a high economical value and it is a main ingredient for many Riau’s traditional food. However, information on biological aspects of this fish is limited. To understand the stomach content analysis of this fish, a study has been conducted from January – March 2015. The fish was sampled in the Siak River using of the gill net. Stomach content of the fish was analyzed as a basis to calculate the Preponderance Index (PI). There were 118 fishes captured, but 33 of them had empty stomach and they cannot be used for stomach content analysis. Results shown that the main food of P. polyuranodon was a benthic animal such as gastropods (PI 43.91%), bivalve (PI 17.77%), cricket (PI 5.39%), fish (PI 1.52%), crustacean (PI 1.26%), bones (PI 0.24%) and Elais guinensis (PI 28.49%), leaves (PI 1.19%) and Archidendron (0.05%). Empty shells of gastropods and bivalve and Elaeis kernels were found in the intestine of the fish, indicates that the fish dispose these hard materials through their feces. Based on data obtained, it can be concluded that the main food of P. polyuranodon is benthic animals such as gastropod and bivalve and this fish can be categorized as omnivore leads to carnivore.Keyword: Pangasius polyuranodon, Stomach Content Analysis, Index of Preponderance

Abstract

Sail River is one of the most polluted river in Pekanbaru. A study aims to understand the physical, chemical and biological condition of water quality in the river was conducted from February to Mai 2015. The biological condition of the water was analyzed based on type and population of macrozoobenthos present in the river. Parameters measured were temperature, depth, transparency, turbidity, current speed, TSS, pH, DO, BOD, COD, nitrate and phosphate content. Data were analyzed using the NFS-WQI and FBI method. Results shown that the macrozoobenthos present in the Sail river were consisted of 3 phylum and 6 family, namely Annelid (Tubificidae), Arthropod (Chironomidae), and Mollusks (Ampullidae, Bithyniidae/ Bulimidae, Thiaridae). The water quality parameters in the Sail River are as follow: temperature 29-30oC, depth 0.21-0.56 m, transparency 6.45-15.27 cm, turbidity 112-593 NTU, current speed 8.08-26.58 cm/s, TSS 44.00-173.67 mg/L, pH 5-6, DO 2.80-11.51 mg/L, BOD5 4.77-29.12 mg/L, COD 10.67-44.80 mg/L, nitrate 0.18-0.81 mg/L and phosphate 1.06-1.71 mg/L. Based on NSF-WQI result, the water quality in the Sail River was categorized as poor to very poor (27.97-14.68), while the FBI value (8-8.72) indicates that the river was badly contaminated.Keyword: Sail River, water quality, NSF-WQI, Family Biotic Index, Macrozoobenthos
