Abstract

Combination of lime and alum can be used to improve thequality of the river water. The lime used, however, is not completely diluted and it forms flocks. To find out the effective dosages of lime (L) and alum (A) and to understand the effectiveness of osmofilter paper (O) in improving water quality of the river water, a study has been conducted on April – June2016. The were 4 treatments applied, namely Po (no L, A and O); P2 (150 mg L + 150 mg A + O); P2 (150 mg L + 350 mg A + O) and P3 (150 mg L + 550 mg A + O). The wrapped lime and alum was then immersed in 10L of river water for 30 minutes. The treated water was then used to rear Cyprinus carpio, 10 fishes/ aquarium for 4 days period. Results shown that P2 was the best, as the TSS reduced, from 21.33 to 0.1 mgL-1, the turbidity reduced from 30.83 to 1/.62 NTU, the color reduced from 265.67 to 13.33 Pt/Co and the survival rate of the fish was 100%. Based on data obtained, it can be concluded that the osmofilter paper wrapped lime and alum is effective in improving the quality of the Siak River water.Keyword : Siak River, osmofilter paper, lime, alum

Abstract

The area around the Boko-Boko peat swamp has been used for palm plantation. Remains of fertilizer and pestiside used in the plantation may enter the water and decrease the water quality of the swamp. To understand the water quality of the Boko-Boko peat swamp’s waters, a research was conducted in March 2016. There were three sampling stations namely Station 1, Station 2, and Station 3 and in each station there were three sampling points, in the surface, 1.5 secchi and in the bottom. Samplings were conducted 3 times, once/week. Water quality parameters measured were depths, temperature, transparency, pH, DO, CO2, nitrate and phosphate. Results shown that depths was 70-250 cm, temperature: 30-31 oC, pH : 4-5, DO :0.35-3.28 mg/L, CO2: 4-21,97 mg/L, nitrate : 0.14-1.24 mg/L, and phosphate 0.01-0.17 mg/L. Nitrate concentration indicate that the Boko-Boko peat swamp was categorized as eutrophic, and phosphate concentration indicate that the Boko-Boko peat swamp is eutrophic. Keywords : peat swamp , Boko-Boko peat swamp, Water Quality, eutrophic.

Abstract

The area around the Boko-Boko peat swamp has been used for palm plantation. Remains of fertilizer and pestiside used in the plantation may enter the water and decrease the water quality of the swamp and thus reduce the water quality in general. To understand the type and abundance of phytoplankton in the Boko-Boko peat swamp’s waters, a research was conducted in March 2016. There were three sampling stations namely Station 1, Station 2, and Station 3. Samplings were conducted 3 times, once/week. Results shown that there are 18 species of phytoplankton present in the peat swamp. They were classified into four classes, namely: Bacillariophyceae (6 species), Chloropyhceae (1 species), Cyanophyceae (5 species) and Xanthophycea (3 Species). The average of phytoplankton abundance was around 10,948 – 18,186 cells/L, species diversity index (H’) was 2.082 -2.424, index equatibility (E) was 0.81 – 0.86 and dominance index (C) was 0.218 – 0.288. While the water quality parameters were as follows: temperature 30.1 – 30.4 0C, transparency 48.6 - 60 cm, depth 148.3 – 180 cm, pH 5, CO2 : 7.32 – 9.99 mg/L, DO : 2.54 – 3.26 mg/L, nitrate : 0.4444 – 0.6436 mg/L and phosphate : 0.7779 – 0.123 mg/L. Based on the abundance of pyhtoplankton, it can be concluded that the peat swamp Boko - Boko can be categorized as mesotropic. Keywords : Phytoplankton, Peat Swamp, WaterQuality, Boko-Boko

Abstract

The research was conducted from July to December 2015 in the Laboratory of Parasitic and Fish Diseases Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences University of Riau. The purpose of this study was to determine the pathological changes of the liver and kidney of tilapia (O. niloticus) were infected with the bacterium S. iniae. The method used is an experimental method and histological structure of the fish will be analyzed descriptively. The treatments applied were intraperitoneal infection by S. iniae with different consentration, they were ; Kn (negative control, were not infected by S. iniae), P1 (infection by S. iniae with concentration 109 CFU/mL in a dose of 0,1 mL/fish), P2 (infection by S. iniae with concentration 107 CFU/mL in a dose of 0,1 mL/fish), P3 (infection by S. iniae with concentration 105 CFU/mL in a dose of 0,1 mL/fish), and than fisher were reared for 7 days. The results showed that the P1 kerusakn treatment of liver and kidney is more severe than the treatments P2 and P3, this was due to S. iniae able to damage or lysis of erythrocytes, neutrophils, and lymphocytes. In addition, this bacterium is septicemia so it can infect vital organs such as gills, liver, kidney, brain, and nervous system. Histopathologic liver tissue tilapia infected with the bacterium S. iniae indicate a hemorrhage, necrosis, congestion and degenerative. Histopathological kidney tissue tilapia infected with the bacterium S. iniae showed abnormality characterized by the occurrence of hemorrhage, necrosis, congestion and degenerative.   Key words : Oreochromis niloticus, Streptococcus iniae, Histopathology, Liver, Kidney

Abstract

The research was conducted from 30 Meith to 30th Juni 2016 at Laboratory of Brackish Water Aquaculture Development Centre Situbondo, East Java. This research was aimed to determine the immersion dose of recombinant growth hormone (rGH) to increase growth and viability of seed of river Giant Grouper (Cromileptes altivelis). River Giant Grouper were immerrsed for 30 minutes in water containing 0,9% NaCl, 0,01% Bovine Serum Albumine, and different of dose of rGH ( 0, 6, 12, and 18 mg/l). Each treatment was repeated 3 times. This research concluded that the best dose of recombinant growth hormone was 12 mg/l because it had the highest growth body weight (1,29 g), the higesth growth total length (2,29 cm), the higesth specific growth rate (6,63%, the higest feed efficiency (98, 54%) and the highest survival rate (97,8%) compared the each other dose.Keyword: Cromileptes altivelis, recombinant growth hormone, immersion
