Abstract

Bearing capacity of Helical Pile on peat soil can be obtained from cone penetration test (CPT). Bearing capacity based on CPT data is calculated by Bustamante & Gianeselli (LCPC) method, Schmertmann method, method Meyerhoff, Price & Wardle method, and Tumay & Fakhroo method. Meanwhile, there are two methods based on peat soil mechanisms to determine the bearing capacity of the helical pile such a cylindrical shear method and individual bearing method. This research evaluates bearing capacity of the five methods above by implementing two basic methods helical pile on peat soil that most closely to the actual bearing capacity. The results showed that the method Bustamante & Gianeselli (LCPC) to provide bearing capacity that most closely to the actual bearing capacity compared to other methods. Reduction factor is also necessary to modify bearing capacity the foundation Helical. After reduced, bearing capacity of each method has decreased significantly and tends to approach the actual bearing capacity.Keywords: Cone Penetration Test, Helical Foundation, Peat, Capability, Reduction Factor.

Abstract

This paper provide a review of i.e: temperature achievement three different of dummy condenser. The study review was conducted to know the effect of adding dummy condenser coil type helical, coil trombone and multi helical coil without circulating water to room temperature and the temperature of the hot water. The method used in this review was a comparative method among tree types of dummy condenser i.e: helical coil, trombone coil and multi helical coil. The result comparison showed that the addition of dummy condenser type multi helical coil was better than dummy trombone coil and helical coil types. In the addition of dummy condenser without circulating water with multi helical coil, heated water temperature reached 64.73 oC in 3000 Watt of load. Whilst, the helical coil on the lowest room temperature reached 16.11 oC at the use of no load (19.26 oC on multi helical coil without load).Keywords : Air Conditioning Machines, Dummy Condenser, Cooling Load, Coil, Water Heater.

Abstract

Pekanbaru as the capital of Riau province has potential in the development of economy and tourism industry. Economic development leads to new discoveries, exchanges and dissemination of information, resulting in universal meeting activities such as seminars, conventions and exhibitions. Convention Center is a building to conduct convention and exhibition activities with a large capacity. The Convention Center is designed with Malay architectural approach, this is because malay people always gathering and meeting on the building called the balai house. One of the balai houses in Pekanbaru which became the custom house of Riau province is Selaso Jatuh Kembar. By using Malay architecture as a design approach, then come the concept of Harmony Social which means harmony on the sociality. Harmony Social is the harmony of social character / socialization with the house of Selaso Jatuh Kembar. The concept is applied by transforming the Selaso Jatuh Kembar house. The results of transformation include the order of mass, mass formation, facade, landscape, and color.Keywords: Convention Center, Malay Architecture, Transformation

Abstract

Machining processes in manufacturing industries such as machine tools required special monitoring during the operation process. Cutting tool is a component that needs to be monitored, because it is a part that often suffered damage or wear. In this research the Monitoring is conducted to determine the damage or wear that occurs on the tool HSS lathe and drill. The method used is the indirect method, where the sound signal is recorded by using the microphone as a sensor through the software. The obtained sound signal is then processed by using fast fourier transform (FFT). The results show that there is a difference in the amplitude value of time domain signal and frequency domain. The tendency is the more wearness, the higher the amplitude of sound signal which can be seen clearly in time domain and frequency domain.Keywords : Tool Wear, Sound Signals, Machine Tools, FFT

Abstract

Hydroxyapatite is a crystalline molecule composed of phosphorus and calcium with the molecular formula Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2. Synthetic hydroxyapatite is known as one of the important implant materials because it has bioactive, biocompatible and osteoconductive properties that chemically resemble bone and tooth mineral components, so it can be used as a substitute for human hard tissue. In this study hydroxyapatite was synthesized from PCC coral reefs using precipitation method with variations in pH (9; 10 and 11) and the mole ratio of Ca/P (1.57; 1.67 and 1.77). The obtained hydroxyapatite was analyzed by using XRD and SEM-EDX analysis. The obtained hydroxyapatite obtained was analyzed by XRD analysis with the best crystallinity closest to the standard hydroxyapatite and the smallest crystal sized was 10.76507 nm at pH 9 with Ca/P ratio of 1.67. Based on the SEM-EDX analysis, the best results was produce at pH 9 and the mole ratio of Ca/P 1.67 with agglomerate shaped particles, 2.549% particle distribution and final Ca/P mole ratio 1.61.Key word: Ca/P ratio, hydroxyapatite, pH, precipitation

Abstract

Empty fruit bunches (EFB) has not been utilized optimally. EFB can be used as source of solid fuel in the form of briquettes. The calorific value of the EFB is 18.200,975 kJ / kg. The calorific value can be increased by carbonization process that is followed by densification process. Carbonization process aims to minimize the elements forming of the smoke, so the exhaust gas can be cleaner. Densification Process aims to increase the density and simplify the handling process. The calorific value of the combustion products can be enhanced by adding the filler. Crude glycerol is used as the filler, because it has a the calorific value of 25.175,98 kJ / kg which aims to improve the calorific value. The purpose of this research is to utilize EFB and wasting crude glycerol as a source of solid fuel, to learn how is the effect of crude glycerol, particle size, and compression pressure, to determine the influence of calorific value and compressive strength of the briquettes produced. EFB Densification uses a hydraulic press in operating conditions of particle sizes (60, 80, and 100 mesh), the composition of the filler (60:40, 70:30 and 80:20) and a pressing pressure (100.110, and 120 bar). Responses were analyzed, namely the calorific value and compressive strength by using Response Surface Methodology. The Best calorific value is obtained by 28.999,4 kJ / kg at 80 mesh particle size, composition filler 53: 47, and the pressing pressure of 110 bar. While the best compressive strength value is 9,5316 kg / cm2 at 100 mesh particle size, composition filler 60: 40, and the pressing pressure of 120 bar. Process conditions is very influence significantly on the calorific value and compressive strength is the composition of the filler and the pressing pressure.Keywords: Briquettes, Densification, Carbonization, Compressive Strength, Calorific Value, Empty Palm Bunches

Abstract

Motor vehicles are often used for everyday transportation as well as business tools. The large number of motor vehicles in Indonesia causes excessive air pollution. Air pollution from motor vehicles can cause a greenhouse effect on the world. The price of fuel (Fuel Oil) is also a constraint when prices are soaring, even when the availability of fuel is limited. Based on the problems and needs that have been exposed, Shell Eco Marathon makes the race to create energy-efficient vehicles, whose goal is to reduce the excessive use of fuel. Therefore Urban City Car Vehicles were created for the Shell Eco Marathon aimed at supporting the reduction of excessive fuel use. In making Urban Car For Shell Eco Marathon required a reliable power transmission and steering system, easy in maintenance and easy to find spare part. Therefore in the research discussed the planning and manufacturing power transmission of steering for a car of the Shell Eco Marathon concept. It discussed especially the material, connection, and spare part that would be used. Furthermore, it would be expected to produce a good vehicle.Keyword: City car, material selection and components

Abstract

Kelurahan Pesisir is one of the slums area located on the banks of the Siak River Pekanbaru. Design by research aims to find design solutions for the problems of slums with using an assessment of a region through character activities. The form of design solutions forregulation slums related to the five elements of the image of the city; i.e. paths, edges, nodes, districts, and landmarks. The five elements explain image of area obtained from local residents.The issue gained that the region is well-known as the ports of goods and shops citizens who make road traffic in the area becomes crowded. So, the design of the slum settlements to be beneficial to the community activities. That requires a walkway for the carts and pedestrians crossing roads and rivers in the area without disturbing the road traffic.Keyword: Research, Regulation, Settlement, Slum.

Abstract

The waste of palm know as waste of palm oil extraction, which is recently available abundantly. One of efforts in using this waste material is as additive in paving block industry. This research presents the efficiency of waste of palm oil extraction as an additive material of paving block at optimum mix composition regarding the paving block compressive strength, absorption and resistance to chemicals.The composition of waste of palm oil extraction was 0%, 2,5%, 5%, 7,5%, 10% and 12,5% by weight of cement. Research results showed that the use of waste of palm oil extraction as an additive affect the quality of the paving block. The best composition of paving block in this research was the amount of waste of palm oil extraction can be added to paving block as much as 7,5%. It was shown from the value of compressive strength of 7, 14, and 28 days increased to reach 18,3 MPa, water absorption is 5,9%, and resistant to sodium sulfate. Based on SNI 03-0691-1996, paving block generated from this treatment fitted in C quality of paving block and can be used for parking area.Keywords: waste of palm oil extraction, paving block

Abstract

Composites became one of the alternative materials being developed and widely used in the industrial world. Composites that use natural fibers are chosen because in addition to cheap also environmental friendly. One of the natural fibers that exist around us and has a pretty good potential is pineapple leaf fiber. The purpose of this reasearch is to produce fiberglass reinforced plastic composite using pineapple leaf fiber as an alternative filler, to determine the effect of addition and particle size of pineapple leaf fiber to composite mechanical properties for water treatment plant unit. The composites in this study used pineapple leaf fiber, polyesther resin, methyl ethyl ketone peroxide (MEKPO) catalyst and lubricant. The composite is made through 3 phases of pineapple fiber processing is separation of leaf fiber, fiber drying, and fiber processing into powder and then proceed with the composite making process. Variations were done on pineapple fiber, which as variation of 10%, 20% and 30% fiber addition and fiber particle size variation 60 mesh, 80 mesh and 100 mesh. The results showed that the highest mechanical properties obtained composites with 30% fiber and 100 mesh particle size include: tensile strength 64,672 MPa, flexural strength 430,9 MPa, and modulus of elasticity 5880,7 MPa. The resulting composite meets the standard specification of fiberglass reinforced plastic for water treatment unit based on SNI 7504: 2011.Keywords: composites, fiber, pineapple leaves, polyesther
