Abstract

This research study presents the durability of OPC and geopolymer mortars prepared from the combination of palm oil fuel ash (POFA) and fuel ash (FA) as cement replacement and elements of Si and Al was activated by alkaline solution. Alkaline solution was prepared by combining sodium silicate and sodium hydroxide 14 M. The optimum mix proportions of geopolymer mortars with FA:POFA mass ratio of 90:10 was used together with alkaline solution. The ratio of sodium silicate solution to sodium hydroxide solution by mass was 2.5:1. The mass ratio of sand to blended ashes was 2,75:1. Test specimens 5×5×5 cm cube were prepared and cured at room temperature (28ºC) for 3 days and heat-cured at 110ºC for 24 hours, later cured back at room temperature for 7 days. respectively. Then specimens were immersed in distilled water and peat water. This research resulted in changes of compressive strength the OPC and geopolymer mortars, after immersed in distilled water for 28 days mortar OPC was increasing the compressive strength while geopolymer mortar was decreasing of compressive strength. Furthermore, in the immersed peat water, OPC and geopolymer mortars tend to decreased the compressive strength. The percentage porosity value of both types of mortar were immersed in peat water has increased compared to the immersed in distilled water. The test results revealed that durability of geopolymer mortar in peatlands not as good as OPC mortar due to many factors that lead to a decrease the quality of geopolymer mortar.Keywords : Durability, mortar geopolymer, fuel ash, palm oil fuel ash, peat water

Abstract

Cylinder grouped pillars on meander experienced hydrodynamic and helicoidal force. Laboratory model with 7 testing variations wich are the test withouth pillars (Fr2Tp), 3 variations without curtains (Fr1P, Fr2P, Fr3P) dan 3 variations using curtains (Fr1Pp, Fr2Pp, Fr3Pp) are used to identify the phenomenon of local scouring of grouped cylinder type pillar with curtain protector on meander. The materials used in this research are Kampar River’s sand passing no.10 shieve with Gs value of 2,66 and grain size of d35 = 0,247 mm; d50 = 0,298 mm; dan d65 = 0,352 mm as well as flume with meander index of 1,009. Shield graphic of subcritical flow with characteristic froude numbers 0,4249; 0,6460; and 0,6981 and reynolds numbers Fr1, Fr2, Fr3 wich are 1658,416 (transition), 3081,683 (turbulence) and 4381,188 (turbulence) showed that the grain moved. The equilibrium of scouring occured on 75th minutes for Fr1 and Fr2, and 150th minutes for Fr3. The bigger of froude number showed helicoidal force that occured was smaller, and the grain size wich is transported was also bigger. The result of this research showed that the curtains can reduce local scouring on Fr1, Fr2, and Fr3 at about 53,33 %, 45,55%, and 60,00% respectively.Keyword : Local Scouring, Cylinder Grouped Pillars, Curtain Protector, Depth Ratio.

Abstract

Bridge pillars placed on meander river experience hydrodynamic flow and helecoidal force. Those force will cause local scour on pillars and pillar protectors. Pillar protectors with specified angle is expected to be able to minimize the magnitude of scouring on pillars. Laboratory model with grouped cylinder type pillars with three variation of angle of curtain type pillars protector (θ1, θ2, θ3) are used to obsorved the phenomenon of scouring that occured on meander river. Kampar sand with grain size of d35 = 0,247 mm, d50 = 0,298 mm, d65 = 0,352 mm and Gs = 2,64 are used as the base for the bed of the channel. Three type of subcritic flow with froude number ranged from o,464-0,698 and yield the reynolds number occured on Fr1-Fr3 at 1658,416 thus classified as transition flow while 3081,683 and 4381,188 are classified as turbulence flow. Shield graphic showed that grain gradation used in this research is located one moving zone. The ratio of scouring depth (ds/b) of pillars protectors is highest 2,4 that occured on Fr3 θ2 and Fr1 θ3 while on the pillars is occured on Fr2 θ2 at 1,9. The results of sediment transport analysis proved that with the in crease in froude number used the bigger the size of the grain transported.Key word : local scouring, grouped cylinder pillar, angle of pillars protector, curtain type pillars protectot, depth ratio.

Abstract

Indonesia produces waste eggshell are abundant and untapped optimally. Eggshell waste as a source of CaO has the advantage that environmentally friendly, reusable and economical and thus potentially be developed as a catalyst in the reaction of biodiesel from palm fruit off grade. This research aims to produce biodiesel from low-quality raw materials and determine the effectiveness of the process by looking at the effect of process conditions such as reaction temperature, mole ratio of oil: methanol and the concentration of CaO catalyst for biodiesel yield. The process of making biodiesel is done with two stages of the reaction ofesterification and transesterification reactions because the raw materials used have a free fatty acid levels are high. Processing of the data in this study conducted by response surface methodology (RSM) using Design Expert 6.0.8 program, which attack determined by central composite experimental design (CCD), which consists of three variables. Obtaining the highest biodiesel obtained as much as 88,6% under the conditions of 60°C reaction temperature, mole ratio of oil: methanol 1: 9 and concentration of CaO is 3 wt%. Thecharacteristics of biodiesel produced in the form of density, kinematic viscosity, acid number and flash point are in accordance with the standards of Indonesian biodiesel. Processconditions that give real effect on the yield of biodiesel is the reaction temperature and catalyst concentration.Keywords : biodiesel, calcium oxide, response surface methodology, palm fruit off grade, transesterification.

Abstract

Oil-palm off grade is a source of vegetable oil that unmaximum utilization from the rest of the sorting in Crude Palm Oil (CPO) factory. The availability of oilpalm off grade is about 7-10% of a CPO factory with capacity of 30 tons per hour. This research aims to produce biodiesel from oil-palm off grade with twostage reaction (esterification and transesterification) using activated natural zeolite catalysts in transesterification reaction. The other aims of this research is to study the influence of the reaction temperature (50, 60, 70°C), the molar ratio methanol : oil (6:1, 8:1, 10:1), and catalyst concentration (1, 3, 5%-wt) to yield of biodiesel and also to predict the optimum of proccess condition that give maximum yield. Natural zeolite is modificated by impregnation with 75% KOHsolution and calcined at 450°C for 4 hours. Response Surface Methodology (RSM) is used to know the influence of proccess condition which experiment design follows Central Composite Design (CCD) model with three variables. The highest yield of biodiesel is 92,04% at the reaction temperature of 60°C, themolar ratio of methanol : oil 8:1, and 3%-wt catalyst concentration. The variation of catalyst concentration gives significant effect to yield of biodiesel. The highercatalyst concentration will decrease yield of biodiesel. The prediction for optimum yield of biodiesel is 93,92% at the reaction temperature of 50,8°C, the molar ratio of methanol : oil 6,1:1, and 2,2%-wt catalyst concentration.Keywords : oil-palm off grade, biodiesel, natural zeolite modificated, response surface methodology, transesterification

Abstract

The tower BTS (Base Transceiver Station) is a high tower that is susceptible to lightning strikes. If a BTS tower was struck by lightning directly, then it would occur a more currents that flows on the system derived from the lightning surges, the lightning surge will distributed to a those channels made of metallic material with system connected to a telecommunication equipment through bonding bar. To protect the power lines from damage due to overcurrent the resulting by lightning strikes, then install the cutting tool, namely voltage surge arresters, in this case arresters used are metal oxide arrester varistor (MOV). In this research conducted to determine the arrester surge current capacity of required on the power channel that is connected to the arresters on theequipment telekomunikasis by simulation Alternative Transient Electromagnetic transients Program-Program (ATP-EMTP).Keywords : tower BTS, surge current, arrester MOV, ATP-EMTP

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze and modelling an induction motor. The motor is used in this study is three phases induction motor eight poles, 500 W, 30 V, 50 Hz and 750 rpm. In this study the equivalent circuit is form into an inverse Г transformation equations of three phases induction motor. The porpose of this study is to create a model of three phases induction motor eight poles using inverse Г equivalent circuit, analyzing equations and equivalent circuit models obtained using matlab application, and comparing the results with the results of the actual testing analyst induction motor three phases eight poles.Analysts done on two conditions, no load and load. From direct testing and analysis results were found comparisons percent error of the test results and analysis of induction motor three phases eight poles, there are input voltage when starting is 11%, starting current 23,21%, the influence load to voltage is 2,9%, the effect of load on the starting current 24,3% and during the current reduce is 26%. Abstract

Analysis and modelling of induction motor of permanent capacitor have been done in this paper. With specifications 30 Volt, 100 Watt, 6 pole, 50 Hz, 1000 rpm. At this writing the equivalent circuit Г inverse form by simplifying the parameters which determine the stator reactance leak is not the sameas leaking rotor reactance. So that the determination of the parameters can be done more thoroughly. Modeling transient permanent capacitor induction motor has been done using MATLAB- Simulink. In this research, the percentage of permanent capacitor induction motor error burden from direct test results and simulation results that the initial voltage on the primary winding by 3.46%, the initial voltage on the auxiliary winding of 8.896%, stable voltage on the auxiliary winding by 9.89%, currents starting on auxiliary winding by 19.97% and stable current on auxiliary winding by 21.44%. From the shape of the voltage waveform generated change, the results of experimental approaches the simulation calculation results on the primary winding and the auxiliary winding thus obtained avalid analysis.Keywords : Permanent capacitor induction motor, induction motor modeling using inverse Γ equivalent circuit, Simulink - Matlab.

Abstract

ANN method is a soft computing method that can predict streamflow. predict streamflow is needed at the present time, one of which is for early warning flood. Judging from the success of the research is the application of ANN method, it is necessary to prove the performance of the ANN method to predict streamflow in Siak Hulu Sub-Watershed. The data used for the development of ANN model predict streamflow in Siak Hulu Sub-Watershed is derived from the historical recording of data in Automatic Water Level Record (AWLR) station of Pantai Cermin from 2002 to 2012 (except 2007). ANN model development consists of 4 forecasting scheme is then compared to obtain the best model. In each of the schemes carried out the training process, testing, and validation. The algorithm used in the development of ANN model is backpropagation algorithm. The results obtained in this study indicate that the performance of the ANN model that has been made to produce the value of the test statistic parameters of the correlation coefficient (R) categorized as a very strong correlation. The best forecasting scheme obtainedthat the forecasting scheme for one day to the next (Qt+1) which resulted in a correlation coefficient (R) is 0.94903.Keywords: forecasting streamflow, ANN, Siak Hulu sub-watershed.
