Abstract

Multipulse rectifiers are recently used in ac-dc converter to minimize line current distortion due to harmonics. Analysis of the input and output ac-dc converter has been done with the tendency that the number of pulse rectifier most will have a value THD (total harmonic distortion) line current is the smallest and has the greatest power factor. In this study the authors will design and transformers 3-phase make with primary in delta connection and secondary in zigzag connection to produce 12 phases voltage wave, each phase of phase 150. The next phase will output 12 is connected as the input of a 24-pulse rectifier, which consists of 4 units of 3-phase rectifier bridge connection that are arranged in series. Calculation of results rectifier current THD, indicates THD 24-pulse rectifier is lower than the 6-pulse rectifier, THD 24-pulse rectifier currents of 1.41% while the 6-pulse rectifier amounted to 3.61%.Keywords : Multiphase Transformer, Multipulse rectfier, total harmonic distortion of current

Abstract

Transport for humans at the present time this is a very necessary thing. The modifications made by the people is by making two-wheeled vehicles or motorcycles into three or more wheeled vehicles for the transport of goods. Quality Function Deployment (QFD) is a method that serves to design tools according to the needs of the community, so we get the design parameters in the manufacture outboard rickshaw connection. Design For Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) is a method that serves to determine the most efficient manner in the product creation process and minimize the time of the assembly, while the time required in the assembly process outboard rickshaw is 545.75 seconds with time efficiency of 7.69%.Keyword: Conection, Pedicab, QFD, DFMA

Abstract

The processing of areca nut at the present time is still done manually and requires a long working time. To facilitate the skinner process and optimize the results that required a technology of machine which paring the areca nut skin. The Skinner machine of areca nut at this point still has deficiency. For resolving the problems that exist on the areca nut skinner machine which has type of screw then troubleshoot by varying the rotational speed of the screw feeding toward skinner tool of areca nut. After tested with variations of the rotational speed of the screw feeding to ward skinner tool of areca nut, then obtained the optimal results as much as 6 pieces and other 4 pieces of areca nut already broken on screw feeding speed at 37 rpm and 800 rpm on a skinner tool. The time that required to perform the paring process on this rotational speed is 21.7 seconds. Abstract

The hybrid of Residential Air Conditioning (RAC) is a cooling system that utilizes cooling effect and warming effect of refrigeration simultaneously to improve machine performance. Chiller is one of cooling system that used to cool liquid (brine or water) by using HCR-22 refrigerant as the cooling medium and the brine serves as a secondary refrigerant to cooling the room indirectly. Standby mode is a cooling method without using ice or cooling methods from the chiller directly. In this study, the RAC with standby mode is done without cooling load so resulting in a performance with Coefficient of Performance average is 2.46, Factor of Performance average is 3.42, and Total of Performance average 5.88. Then, the average temperature of cooler room is 22.54 ˚C. The average temperature of warmer room is 38.87 ˚C was able to contribute both as warming and it can stability of refrigeration system during process.Keywords : Hybrids RAC, Chiller, Standby mode, Performance, Temperature

Abstract

Rarefaction inside of intake manifold can improve motorcycles engine performance. Intake manifold produce by sand casting method limited for low surface roughnes. Investment casting method might produce low surface roughnes, therefore further study must carried out to observe process parameters namely pouring temperatures and clay grain size. Current study has carried out in order to observe the influence pouring temperatures and clay grain size on surface roughness. Aluminium beverage tins and local natural clay were use raw material for molding. The clay sieved to obtain grain sizes of 60, 100, 200 mesh respectively. The wax clusters were coated with ceramic slurry up to 10 mm thickness and final coat was with sika to strengthen the mould. The ceramic shell were dewaxed at 120ºC and then sintered at 350ºC for 60 minutes. Aluminium beverage tins were cast atthe pouring temperatures 650, 700, and 750°C. The surfaces products tested by surface roughness tester. Theresults show the surface roughness increases as the pouring temperature increase. At pouring temperature 650°C to 700°C was 7.15%, while at pouring temperature 650oC to 750oC was 130.27%. Surface roughness increases as the clay grain size decreases. At clay grain size 60 to 100 mesh was 8.24, while at clay grain size 60 to 200 mesh was 186.93%.Keywords: Investment casting, surface roughness, clay

Abstract

The traditional ships in Bagan Siapiapi, Riau province have been made in many decades. However, design of structural ships are still used a conventional method in process of manufacture, installation and selection of raw materials. The objective of this study is to find optimum design of Bagan Siapiapi’s traditional ship structural joints by improving the design. The simulation method was performed in this study. A computer Aided Design and Computer Aided Engineering finite element-based software were used for determining of optimum design of Bagan Siapiapi’s traditional ship structural joints. The design of ship material used the wood of Keruing and Meranti. Bolts or glue were used as fastener for ship structrual joints. The simulation model selected Bouyancy of 61840 Newton and specific gravity of 9.81 m/s2 for loads at ship structural joints. Based simulation, Keruing wood was better than Meranti wood for material of ship structural design. The result had obtained “Sambungan Bibir Lurus Berkait”, which 4 pieces of bolts of 14 mm diameter for fastening as an optimum design. The maximum stress obtained 217.51 MPa at joint area, while minimum stress of 0.32896 MPa at the bolts. The maximum strain was obtained 0.0835 mm/mm in joint area and minimum strain of 1.64x10-6 mm/mm on the bolts. Abstract

Air flow rate of Fan Coil Units (FCU) can affect cut off pump time in an air conditioning system, with controling air flow distribution to realization thermal comfort conditions in a residential building. With using secondary cycle of chiller system, a pump working for circulating chilled water through a FCU, for cooling system by Encapsulated Ice and water in Thermal Energy Storage (TES). A half of valve be opened for circulating volume flow rate of chilled water as normal condition. The thermostat use to controling room temperature at 26°C manually. The objective of this current study is to observ cut off pump power consumption. The Experiment is running in 8 hours with variations air flow rate 1.234 m/s and 2.432 m/s. The overall resultsshow that power consumption of pump can reduce around 15.11 % and 31.25%.Keywords: Encapsulated Ice, TES, Chiller.

Abstract

The wind turbine is divided into two types: vertical axis wind turbine and horizontal axis wind turbine. A vertical axis wind turbine is likely better than horizontal axis due to unaffected by the direction of the wind and capable for rotating at low wind speeds. The Darrieus-type H is one of vertical wind turbines type, with rotor structure of H-shaped, which capable for a low speed of wind flow areas. Sequence, it meets the Riau Province areas to apply one. This research aim is to test the performance of implementation of a vertical axis wind turbine model, Darrieus type-H blades with naca 2415 in Riau Province area. This research used an experimental method to investigate the vertical axis wind turbine models, Darrieus type-H blades with naca 2415. The wind speeds were chosen on 3.87 m/s, 4.53 m/s, 5.06 m/s, which used a fan as the wind source. Then, the wind of fan was flowed through a simple wind tunnel. The pitch angel was set on 10°, 15°, 20°, 25°, 30°, 80° and 90°, with a load of 250 grams. The results were obtained the optimum performance on a pitch angel of 90°, at wind speed of 3.87 m/s for power generated 0.27 Watts, and the efficiency of 3.81%.Keyword: Pitch angel, Darrieus-H, coefficient of performance

Abstract

Application of helical pile to support structures constructed over peat is still a new method. Moreover, helical pile can provide an alternative to wood pile. The research is necessary to develop this foundation. There were 6 different helical piles, wood pile, and plain pile embedded in peat. Every pile was under static axial compressive load based on constant rate of penetration procedure. The test results show that, load-settlement curves of helical piles behave in ways that show end bearing. According to the curve, helical piles with 2 and 3 plates using diameter of bottom plate at least 25 cm can carry greater load compared to wood piles at same settlement. Helical pile with only one plate is not effective to replace wood pile. Their bearing capacity are not much different relatively. Based on interpretation result, helical pile with two plates has greater ultimate bearing capacity than three plates. The difference of ultimate bearing capacity is caused by the diameter size of bottom helical plate. The bigger diameter of helical plate is attached, the greater ultimate bearing capacity is.Keywords: Helical Pile, Plate Diameter, Peat, Bearing Capacity, Wood Pile

Abstract

Football is a sport that is highly preferred by people of all ages and all economic levels, this shows how football has a very good potential if developed properly. As one of the countries that have high interest in football, the lack of achievement of the Indonesian national team in the international arena is a problem that must be solved if one day want to see Indonesia to look up. Football School is the solution of various problems related to time and a long process to improve football coaching system in Indonesia. With the SSB is expected to produce a professional soccer player who can compete in the international arena. Bangkinang as one of the cities that have a lot of young talent and high interest will be football should play an active role in improving the football coaching system in Indonesia. In designing this SSB, tropical architecture approach is used to address a variety of issues related to climate conditions that affect the site. Some of Tropical Architecture principles applied in the design, such as: (1) orientation of the building; (2) Optimizing the shape of the stage; (3) Percentage of green spaces; (4) responsive to environmental conditions. Shoot On Target concept was chosen to solve the various problems that arose during the design process this Soccer School. This concept is applied in all aspects of the architectural design of this SSB, such as: order of mass, mass formation, landscape and interior arrangement, up to building facades. Order mass that has movement, a simple mass formation, structuring landscape and an attractive interior and facade are adapted to environmental conditions is the result of applying the concept of Shoot On Target in the design Football School in Bangkinang.Keyword: Football School, Tropical Architecture, Shoot On Target.
