Abstract

Zeolite defines as hydrated aluminosilicate minerals which have 3 dimension framework structures formed of silica and alumina tetrahedral by sharing all the oxygen atoms and content with balanced metal load ions of alkaline or alkaline earth metals. Zeolite 4A is synthetic zeolite which have Na+ cation in balancing up the negative charge. Purpose of this research to get advantage from palm ash as a source of silica as feed for zeolite 4A and studied the influence of the palm ash size and ratio of reactan volume. The variation size of palm ash is 60,100, 200 mesh and unsifted ash. Sythesis of zeolite 4A doing by mixing sodium silicate and sodium aluminate with variaton of volume at 55:45 and 60:40 ml/ml and rate of agitation at 200 rpm. Then the gel formed will be heated in the oven at 80oC for 8 hours and washed until pH neutral. After washing process, sample will be dried at 120oC for 3 hours. Sythesis product analyzed with IR Spectroscopy and Xray Difraction. The best result was got in variation size 100 mesh and volume at 55:45 ml/ml.Keyword: Palm Ash, Xray Difraction, IR Spectroscopy, Zeolite 4A

Abstract

The research has been done to produce biodiesel from calophyllum inophyllum oil with Ni/clay catalyst. Several variations of the process variables were done to assess its influence on acquisition (yield) of biodiesel and quality of biodiesel produced. The variables are used consist of a dependent variable and independent variable. Dependent variables are calophyllum inophyllum oil weight 50 grams, the catalyst concentration Ni / clay 0.5%-b oil, reaction temperature of 60 °C and a reaction time of 90 minutes, while the independent variable which variation mole ratio of oil : methanol 1: 6, 1: 9 and variations of Ni metal impregnation 0% -w (no metal) 1%-w, 2%-w and 3%-w samples of clay. This research has given result the highest yield of 95.36% biodiesel obtained in the use of Ni(3%)/clay catalyst and the mole ratio of oil : methanol of 1: 9. The biodiesel produced has a density of 883 kg/m3, kinematic viscosity of 4,46 mm2/s, acid number of 0.50 mg KOH / g sample and the flash point of 155°C respectively.Keywords: Biodiesel, Ni/Clay Catalyst, Calophyllum Inophyllum Oil

Abstract

Flood occurs when the water discharge exceeds the capacity of the river, which may harm impact of flooding in municipal area. This research aims to test the reliability of EPA SWMM software in rural area and compare it with the discharge from HEC-HMS. The reliability of the softwares was determined by calculating the difference in discharge error (DE). The simulation was performed by using flood discharge with 5 and 25 years of return period. Based on the test results, the EPA SWMM 5.0 software has good reliability with the calculated DE value less than 5% (2,593% for 5 years-return period and 2,268% for 25 years-return period). For HEC-HMS software, the DE is calculated as 1,196% for 5 years-period discharge and 2,072% for 25 years-period discharge. Therefore, it can be concluded that the HEC-HMS software has better accuracy than the EPA SWMM softwareresidential and agriculture areas.Keywords : Flood discharge, EPA SWMM 5.0, correction difference discharge

Abstract

PT. PLN (Persero) substation Bangkinang is central to setting the load demand of electric power, central security equipment electrical power system and the center of the normalization of the disturbances in the region Bangkinang. DC source is the heart of the electrical distribution system, in which the reliability of the source of DC was very influential to the performance of theequipment for distribution of electrical energy, especially equipment that is in substations Bangkinang integrated with the equipment that serves as the primary distributor of electricity. DCsystem consists of a rectifier which serves to AC voltage converter to a DC voltage using AC as the input source being particularly vulnerable to the threat of disruption such as loss of voltage due to an AC source of the transformer substation outages own use due to interruption of transmission or power transformer. Therefore, to reduce the impact of losses in result of these disorders requires a DC system is reliable and high stability is equipped with a backup power source is a battery that isintegrated with the rectifier. In this study will measure the per-cell voltage of 110 Vdc battery and test the battery capacity of 110 VDC substation of 150 KV Bangkinang using non-hypotheticalkomprasi convening phenomenon comparison with the standard. Based on 110 Vdc battery capacity testing of substation of 150 KV Bangkinang NiCd battery bank can be said to be reliable because itworks over IEEE standards for testing after a 5 hour battery bank has a voltage of 94 V readable on a gauge. In the measuring instrument is known by 88 V Warning Limit, and Stop Limit is 86 V.In order to maintain the stability of the rectifier to the battery charging from AC voltage supply required stable from the substation.Keywords: Rectifier , Battery , Battery Capacity of Substations.

Abstract

In electrical systems, power quality is something that must be considered, the power quality assessment can be viewed from various aspects, such as the continuity in the supply of electric energy, stable frequency and voltage on the transmission of electrical energy, and power factor. Non-linear load is a contributor of harmonics that can interfere with the quality of electrical power so used filters for the prevention of electrical harmonics. As science, it is increasingly developing technologies to minimize electrical harmonics, one of which is the Artificial Neural Network. Abstract

Hybrid system is the system that can increase the energy efficiency by recovering waste energy of energy conversion machine. This research aims to investigate the vapor compression refrigeration machine performance that obtained by using capillary expansion valve, thermostatic expansion valve, and addition of hotspot water heater (HWH). The test was conducted with four variations of test, such as using capillary in standard condition, using thermostatic in standard condition, using capillary with HWH, and using thermostatic with HWH. The pressure and temperature data were collected in every 5 minutes during 120 minutes of operation. The results showed that the compressor pressures when using capillary and thermostatic types of expansion valve in standard condition were obtained at 340 Psia and 350 Psia. Meanwhile, the compressor pressures when using HWH addition were obtained at 350 Psia and 291 Psia. The capillary expansion valve pressures in standard condition and with HWH were increased by 4.50 % and 11.13 % respectively to the thermostatic pressures. The compressor temperatures using capillary in standard condition decreased by 4.03 %, but using capillary in HWH condition increased by 1.60 % to the thermostatic temperatures. The inlet temperature of HWH coil using thermostatic was increased by 2.31 % to the temperature of coil while using capillary. Meanwhile, the outlet temperature was decreased by 11.22 %.Keywords: Expansion Valves, Pressure, Temperature, and HWH

Abstract

The basic functions of the expansion device in a refrigeration system is to reduce pressure from condenser pressure to evaporator pressure and regulate the refrigerant flow from the high pressure liquid line into the evaporator at a rate equal to the evaporation rate in the evaporator. In this study, the capillary tube and thermostatic expansion valves will be compared to determine the performance of each other. The experiment was conducted with using a vapor compression cycle testing device with HCR-134a refrigerant. The result shows that the average temperature on the testing points using thermostatic expansion valve is lower than the 1,25 m capillary tube except the temperature of compressor in and compressor out. Also the average pressure in the evaporator and condenser using thermostatic expansion valve is lower than 1,25 m capillary tube.Keywords : expansion device, temperature, pressure, HCR-134a

Abstract

The hybrid air conditioning systems can improve the energy efficiency by recovering waste heat of condenser that can be useful for various purposes. There are many experimental studies about this system which aimed to investigate and improve the energy efficiency. This experimental study aims to investigate the effect of cooling loads to system temperatures of hybrid air conditioning with trombone coil type of dummy condenser using 1/4″ diameter of copper pipe as water heater. The system has been tested with several cooling loads as residential cooling load simulation, such as 0 Watt, 1000 Watt, 2000 Watt, and 3000 Watt. The result shows that the maximum water temperature is obtained at 47.30 ˚C with average discharge temperature of 105.45 ˚C in 3000 Watt cooling load after 120 minutes of operation. The more the cooling load applied to simulation room, the more the temperatures of water and discharge increased.Keywords: hybrid air conditioning system, dummy condenser, trombone coil, water heater.

Abstract

Energy saving is one way to reduce energy usage without decreasing the results. This way can be obtained byusing the hybrid air conditioning. Other than energy saving, the hybrid air conditioning also can reduce theeffects of global warming by condenser waste heat recovery. This research aims to investigate the effect ofvariations flow rate in water heater tank to the system temperatures of hybrid air conditioning using helical coiltype of dummy condenser with 1/4˝ diameter of copper pipe. Experimental method is used in this research. Thetest was conducted with several water flow rate variations (1/3, 2/3, and 3/3 valve openings) and using coolingload of 2000 Watt as residential cooling load simulation. The result showed that the water temperature in waterheater tank was changed in every water flow rate variations. The highest water temperature was obtained at39.77˚C for 0 valve opening (full-closed valve), but, the lowest water temperature was obtained at 32.57˚C in3/3 valve opening (full-open valve).Keywords: water heater, helical coil, dummy condenser.

Abstract

Investment casting method is widely used in the industry, it could produce complex and high precision products.One of the important stage in the investment is the wax pattern production, because the quality of the castproduct depends on the quality of the wax pattern. Sillicone rubber in alternative mold material has goodformability, low thermal conductivity, as well as the low cost of raw materials and the processes compared withmetal. Mold sillicone rubber and pour wax temperature varied 55 ºC, 65 ºC and 75 ºC to investigate the effectof these variables on shrinkage of linear wax patterns and volume wax pattern which expressed as percentage.The lowest average of linear shrinkage is 0.65%, which obtained at temperature 55 ºC. The lowest percentage ofvolumetric shrinkage is 7.59 %, which obtained at temperature 55 ºC.Keywords : invesment casting, mold material, wax pour temperature, shrinkage
