Abstract

One way to save the energy is to improve the energy efficiency with combining two different equipmentsbecome one new double-function or hybrid equipment. Hybrid air conditioning can improve energy efficiency byremoving waste heat to the environment through condenser for heating water. The objective of this experimentalstudy is to investigate the effect of cooling load to system temperature of vapor-compression cycle hybrid airconditioning system with multi helical tipe of dummy condenser. The test was conducted with several coolingload variations (0, 1000, 2000 and 3000 Watt) as residential cooling load simulation. The result showed that therefrigerant temperature while using HCR-22 was obtained about 67.47 °C to 72.93 °C. The temperature ofrefrigerant was increased as well as the applied cooling load to be increased. The temperature of refrigeranthad more heat which to be absorbed and released into the environment so that the produced water temperaturewasalso increased. Hot water temperature of the ACWH system using HCR-22 refrigerant was obtained about41.01-44.96 ˚C.Keywords : hybrid air conditioning, dummy condenser, hydrocarbon refrigerant HCR-22, cooling load.

Abstract

The beverage cans is one of waste due to human activities. Most of the used beverage cans that can be found in a neighborhood were made of aluminum. Beverage cans at nowadays is often recycled become useful goods. Solar energy is the energy form of light and heat of the sun. solar energy in active used by solar water heater. In the solar water heater, there care collectors that can be used to absorb the sun's heat energy that is usually made of aluminum. This study aims to take advantage of used beverage cans as a collector and a test to determine the ability of the tool to heat the water. Solar water heater has the dimensions of length 2.3 m, width 0.87 m, a height of 1.5 m, and a volume of 127 L. The results reveal that highest temperature of the absorber obtained by 71,1 oC at 12:30 pm. The raising temperature of water in the tank from the initial temperature 28,3oC up to 43,30C.Keywords: Beverage cans, Solar Water Heaters, Collector.

Abstract

Satria street is located at the flood plain of Sail River in Pekanbaru city which is oftenly flooded by high intensity rainfall during the rainy season. Due to its low elevation, water tends to flow and form puddles on the street area. This study aims to overcome the aforementioned problem by performing drainage normalization simulation at Satria Street using HEC-CRAS 4.1.0 software. The normalization was conducted by increasing both width and depth of the drainage ditch from the existing dimensions of 50 cm x 70 cm to 80 cm x 100 cm, and by changing the drainage slope at Satria Street. The design-flow rate an rainfall intensity was computed using rational method and mononobe method, respectively. The analysis result show that the flood problem can be coped by modifying the slope and dimensions of the drainage ditch.Keywords: flood, drainase, Hec-Cras

Abstract

Information technology has been rapidly developed in term of implementations, nowadays. It can be applied to various fields such as the inventory management systems of laboratory. Currently, the laboratory management system in the Mechanical Engineering of University of Riau has used a conventional management system, yet. Therefore, the management of inventory equipments might be not optimize due to still using manual process. The purposes of this research are to design, develop and test of inventory management system based computerize for laboratory equipments in the Mechanical Engineering of University of Riau. The research method was divided into two stages: (1) analyzing of current laboratory conditions by using of visual control/ management and Kanban system and (2) to design, develop and test an information system of inventory management for laboratory’s equipments. A system of application program was created using PHP (Hypertext Preprocessor) as programming language and MySQL as the database. The stages of system design were to develop a database table of subsystem, subsystem models, the dialogues subsystem and display interface system (users interface), and the menus structure. The inventory management based information system that can minimize human error, know exactly the amount of goods and material, be quickly and facilitate a recapitulation and reports, facilitate monitoring and inspection. As a result, the performance of management of inventory/ supplies laboratory equipments in Mechanical Engineering, University of Riau was more optimal, effective and efficient.Keywords: Information System, Laboratory Management, Inventory, MySQL, PHP, Kanban.

Abstract

The warehouse management is a system to manage a storage and handling of goods and material, which are stored and distributed in a right time, amount and the specification. The Laboratory of Mechanical Engineering, University of Riau is equipped with goods and material to support its activities. Hence, it is needed a system to manage the storage and handling of such equipments in optimal manner. Recently, the warehousingat the Laboratory of Mechanical Engineering, University of Riau has been used the manual system. Subsequent, there was not optimal to manage activities in the laboratory such as time consuming, mess of storage, difficulty in finding data equipments, etc. This research aim is to design and develop a warehouse management system of the Laboratory in Mechanical Engineering, Riau University. A method of 5S (Sort, Straighten, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) and the warehouse laboratory based information system were implemented in this research. Stages to construct the information system of warehouse management were: the design of database system, the menu structure, sub-systems and the display model of interface system (users interface). This systemwas developed using the programming language of the PHP (Hypertext Preprocessor) and MySQL as the database. The information system of laboratory based-computerization was useful for managing and monitoring the activities in Laboratory of Mechanical Engineering in form of incoming or outgoing the data of goods and material. While, the design of warehouse layout of facilities in laboratory of Mechanical Engineering, University of Riau used the 5S method, was produced clean and neatly arranged of the equipments and tools.Keywords : Warehouse management, 5S Method, PHP, MySQL, Information System.

Abstract

Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) Machine is a machine tool equipped with mechanical systems and computer-based controls that capable to read the instruction code such as N, G, F, T, etc. These codes will be instructed to CNC machine interface system, so that the machine can work in accordance with the listing program that has been created. In general, the selling price of the machine is expensive. Therefore, in this study a low cost CNC machine has been designed for small and medium enterprises (UKM). Design stage consist of a needs analysis, preparation of the technical specifications of the product, design concept of the product to find alternative concept product and choose the concept product. From design concept to be developed do static analysis on mechanical components CNC machines that include stress and deformation due to loading and its own weight. Static analysis is conducted in two ways, with manual calculations and finite element analysis using software Autodesk Inventor 2012 Student Edition. Results of static analysis shows that stress occurs at 7.122 MPa on the z-axis, 72.31 MPa on the y-axis and 2,202 MPa on the x-axis. Deformation is equal to 0.003644 mm on the z-axis, 0.5404 mm on the y-axis and 0.005173 mm on the x-axis.Keyword : CNC Machine, Autodesk Inventor, stress, deformation

Abstract

Waste glass and piston can be used as alternative material to non-asbestos brake pads with powder metallurgy method. Waste glass was used as a reinforce, the piston was used as a filler, and phenolic resin was used as a binder. This study purposes to investigates the influence of size the glass powder particles on the wear resistance and hardness. The powders composition of phenolic resin, piston, and glass was 40%, 40% and 20% respectively, based on volume fraction. The glass powder was mixed in three varied sizes which is 60, 80, and 100 mesh. The mixing process was conducted in 30 minutes mixing time at 45 rpm. 166 bar preliminary pressure was applied at the beginning of single action compacting for 2 minutes then 196 bar and in single action hot compacting at 150°C for 5 minutes, then it was sintered at 150°C for 4 hours. Then, the samples were followed hardness test and wear test. The results showed the composition of the 60 mesh glass has the closest hardness and wear value to the commercial product which is 41.296 HVN and 8.2795 x 10-12 m3/m.Keyword : Brake pads, Waste glass, Particle size

Abstract

Oil palm trunk has a low mechanical properties compared to other woods, so that the oil palm trunks can be used as building materials and furniture, should be improoved in the quality of oil palm trunk by making a composite board. To get a hot press machine to produce a composite board, it is necessary to design the hot press machine that includes the design elements of the machines used and the analysis of the structural strength of the static loading and thermal loading using finite element method software. The conclusion, among others: (1) The design of the power screw is the screw thread diameter 30 mm with pitch 3,5 mm. From design of roller chain, the chain number is 06 B with load on the chain amounted 205,84 N. (2) the results of the simulation at temperature 27oC, Von-Misses stress is 154,6 MPa, the deformation 0,31357 mm and a safety factor 4,2. For temperature 200oC, Von-Misses stress is 442,36 MPa, the deformation 0,70437 mm as well as the safety factor for the engine hot press amounting to 1,48.Keyword : Oil Palm Trunk, Composite board, Hot Press Machine, Finite Elemen Method, Temperature changes, Static and Thermal Load.

Abstract

Oil palm trees wood are no longer productive after 25 year old, and will be cut down in the form of wooden logs. Wooden logs of oil palm are left piled on the land and into the waste oil palm trunk, so the need for a study on the design of the portable sawing machine to cultivate oil palm logs into sawn timber. This study aimed to obtain design parameters, the design of the portable chainsaw, and the application of appropriate technology. The method used in this study is that, in the selection of the design can be obtained by using software engineering drawings and researchers will choose a design with DFMA methods. The design process is conducted in 5 stages by identifying design flaws and fix them to get the best design, after the design is obtained then calculated the total assembly time using a table of manual handling time, and table of manual insertiontime is calculated, and the efficiency of assembly is also calculated. Results from this study is a final design sawing machinesawn timbermaker of portable oil palm trunks which has 2 working principle is to use thrustforce and using crank torque as the driving force. The total value is 295,2 seconds assembly time and the efficiency of the assembly 4,06%. It can be concluded that the design obtained has an easy manufacturing and assembling process.Keywords: DFMA, Total Assembly Time, Assembly Efficiency.

Abstract

Scrap aluminum cans recycle processing through metal casting is a way to improve the economic value. Yet, this process could not instantly be carried out to produce parts without knowing the chararacteristics of mechanical and microstructure. This study investigates those characteristics in three different pour temperatures, 650°C, 700°C, and 750°C respectively and three die temperatures, 100°C, 200°C, and 300°C. The result showed that the hardness number of aluminum cast was decreased as well as increasing of pours and die temperatures. The highest hardness number was 67.615 VHN at 650°C pour temperature, but the lowest one was 58.327 VHN at 750°C pour temperature. The highest hardness number was 77.871 VHN at 100°C die temperature, but the lowest was 61.479 VHN at 300°C die temperature. Tensile strength values were increased at a pour temperature of 650°C to 700°C and decreased at pour temperature of 750°C. The highest tensile strength was 174.183 MPa at 700°C pour temperature and the lowest tensile strength was 110.900 MPa at 750°C pour temperature. The tensile strength was decreased as well as increasing of die temperature. The highest tensile strength was 177.473 MPa at 100°C die temperature and the lowest tensile strength was 108.317 MPa at 300°C die temperature. The microstructure results showed that at650°C pour temperature and 100°C die temperature with more thick flake lines (Mg) than thin flake lines (Mg). The 700°C pour temperature and 200°C die temperature had with more dominant thick flake lines (Mg) than thin flake lines (Mg). The 750°C pour temperature and 300°C die temperature had with more dominant thin flake lines (Mg) than thick flake lines (Mg).Keywords: Hardness, Tensile Strength, pour temperatures, die temperatures, microstructure
