Abstract

The lathe is a machine tool used to cut cylindrical workpieces. On the lathe, the direction of tailstock movement follows the surface contour board machine guide ways. If there is uniformity flatness on the bottom of the machine, it will affect the precision of the lathe. The purpose of this study is to determine and evaluate the flatness deviation value in guide ways of lathes GDW LZ 350. The method used is to measure the guide ways on a lathe using a measuring instrument digi-pas DWL-200, to obtain a deviation value as a reference process leveling machine pedestal. Results obtained from this study is a guide ways flatness deviation average value of 0,1o, general flatness deviation occurs at both ends of the guide ways, the machine MB3 and MB4 flatness deviation occurs is not uniform between the guide way 1 and 2, it caused by the tilt position of guide ways. So loading guide ways only focused on one side only.Keywords : lathe, guide ways, flatness, pedestal

Abstract

The processing of cassava paste is generally done manually, ie by way of cassava that has been boiled and then ground using traditional tool are pestle and mortar to be pasta, pasta process cassava thinned using manual tools to the way in the play with their hands. After the thin manioc paste is then printed, for dried pasta plate drying process using hot sun. Roolpress-grinder machine design is done using quality function deployment method that aims to obtain design parameters in accordance with the wishes of the community. From the results of questionnaires parameter in this design are: cassava processing machines belonging, prices are relatively cheap, easily obtainable spart part, electric motor propulsion engine wear, easy to use process. Of all these parameters based on the results of the test using SPSS17.0 softwere significant value is the selection of the highest mover, with a value corrected item-total correlation was 0.610. In designing the grinder machine-rollpress rollpress used this kind made of metal for food or beverage processing equipment. The dimensions of the machine grinder-roolpress Indonesia Anthropometric Data obtained using the 5th percentile. Abstract

Coastal area is a very vulnerable to changes, because dynamic movement which are cause by the wave. A wave move bring a very easy basic particle coast and make errotion andaccresion in some area of coast. But, a coast will be return into a basic form if they had a balance character. Equilibrium Beach Profile (EBP) method is empirical correlation a scale parameter and the sediment size or fall velocity allow computation z = Ax2/3. Thismethod first time applicated by Robert G Dean in the beach California, United States. A purpose of research is want to know a balance of the coast in Sinaboi, Rokan Hilir with Equilibrium Beach Profile method. From analysis cross section data in some area, a slope formed by Equilibrium Beach Profile method almost approaching existing slope. A some cross section data which has a difference with existing slope and then justified a parameter.Keyword: coast, slope, equilibrium beach profile, coast change.

Abstract

This research studies the rainfall-runoff modeling using variations of the model by forming joint models (hybrid model) of the Wavelet Transformation and GR4J (Génie Rural à 4 parametres Journalier) on Watershed (DAS) Siak Hulu. Combined method of Wavelet-GR4J transformation expected can increase Nash -Sutcliffe Coefficient and Correlation Coefficient. This GR4J model use input data including daily rainfall data on new Petapahan station and daily potential evapotranspiration data which is the result of the CropWat program with climatology input data on Kampar market station. The modeling result is tested using daily observation debit data in Pantai Cermin station. This modeling optimized four free parameters such as Maximum Capacity Production Store (X1) with a value of 440.31 mm, Groundwater Changes Coefficient (X2) with a value of 2.92 mm, Maximum Capacity (X3) with a value of 20mm, and the Hydrograph Unit Ordinate’s Peak Time (X4) with a value of 26.57 days. At a later stage, in particular calibration and verification in the year thereafter. Simulation of Wavelet-GR4J Transformation resulted value equation Nash-Sutcliffe Coefficient of 49.255% and the Correlation Coefficient (R) of 0,762. Combining process of Wavelet-GR4J Transformation method produces a better model performance of the model GR4J based on the Nash-Sutcliffe Coefficient and Correlation Coefficient.Keywords: wavelet transformation, GR4J, calibration, verification, simulation.

Abstract

One of the simplification model of structure in the structural dynamic engineering was converting the model of a structure into the system that has mass, stiffness, damping percentageand number of Degree of Freedom (DOF) whether in single number (Single Degree of Freedom) or multi number (Multi Degree of Freedom) as its components. Yet the application of model SDOF system was used as fundamental analysis and had to be developed for MDOF system. The research of MDOF system had become necessity to be continuously done in order to improve the previous existing analysis method. One of the method that potentially can be used was with Artificial Neural Network (ANN). Thus why this research was aimed to identify the capability of ANN in predicting the system responses. The analysis of system with 4, 6 and 8 DOFs that was subjected to dynamic excitation such as sinusoidal, triangular, rectangular and ramp load was done with Newmark-β method listing program of FORTRAN. Then analysis continued with Backpropagation Neural Network (BP-NN) using MATLAB program. The input data for BP-NN were heights (H), mass, stiffness, damping value, natural period (Tn) and dynamic load factor (DLF) with system responses as target data. The result had shown that variation of dynamic loads and system parameter had affected the value of system responses. While BP-NN training result showed its ability in predicting the system responses was decreasing from displacement to velocity and acceleration. It could be seen within the degradation value of regression (R) from 0.99-0.84, the increase of Mean Squared Error (MSE) from 1.19×10-7-0.7654 and error percentage from 5%-41%. Therefore ANN method was not capable to be used in predicting the responses of MDOF system under dynamic loads.Keywords: MDOF system, dynamic load, Backpropagation Neural Network, Newmark-β, displacement, velocity, acceleration

Abstract

The commonly used air conditioning system is the air conditioning system with vapor compression cycle. However, vapour compression cycle has an operation problem, which is the high energy consumption caused by air cooled condenser type. The condensors disadventages is temperature will increase when ambient temperature increases, it reduced the heat rejected by condenser. This studies used evaporative cooler moduleon condenser inlet to reduce the entering air temperature. The module efect on standard vapour compression cycle performance was tested using experimental methods by testing the effect of water discharged (0.88, 1.04, 1.2 L/min) with the power input. The result showed standard cycle power input with 2000 W cooling load is 0.586186 kW, and the lowest power input of a modification cycle is 0.547665 kW with water discharged 1.2 L/min.Keywords : Evaporative Cooler, Power input, Heat rejection, Condenser

Abstract

Friction Welding is one of the well known press welding methods, where the method is joining two pieces of metal materials. By in this method the heat resulted from the change in mechanical energy into thermal energy in the field of interface the workpiece due to friction during motion plays under pressure/friction. Rotaryfriction welding is made from bar-plate specimens and its products tested by tensile test but not optimal because the weld test objects attached again by adding one bar on the other side, so that acquired way of knowing the characteristics of friction welding the connection using the impact test, so it required the design and manufacture of tools the impact test that aims to get the construction design and the impact tester of friction welding structure of bar-plate. Construction design includes chassis, axle, fixture, and a disc Binder then simulated using ANSYS to view voltage that occurs in the design does exceed the allowed voltage. The component designer is simulated order and the fixture result States that voltage happens during testing does not exceed the allowed limits, it is stated that decent design is created. Impact tester created then tested, and the results stated that no failure occurred on the tools in the form of a broken or cracked, so the impact tester that are worth to be used.Key words: Friction Welding, Bar-plate, Design, Impact Tester, ANSYS

Abstract

Off-grade palm oil is a source of vegetable oils that utilization is not maximized yet. It has ALB > 2% so must be process with esterification and transesterification. In general, biodiesel is produced through transesterification reactions using homogeneous catalysts. Homogeneous catalysts can be replaced with heterogeneous catalysts with easily separated and environmentally friendly. Waste iron powder can be used as catalyst support and provide metallic properties for separate product easily. This study aims to create a catalyst that has metallic properties and to study the transesterification reaction process conditions at transesterification process. Esterification process were reacted at 60 °C with time reaction 1 hour, molar ratio of methanol : oil of 12:1 and 1% H2SO4-w catalyst. The esterification reaction can reduce levels of ALB from 11.95% to 1.44%. Transesterification conducted with the molar ratio of methanol : oil in a row are 6:1, 8:1, and 10:1, the amount of catalyst modification 1% -w, 2%-w, 3% -w, a reaction temperature of 50 °C, 60 °C , 70 °C, and the reaction time 3 hours. Processing data using Response Surface Methodology (RSM), while the number of experiment are determined by Central Composite Design (CCD). Yield was resulted in ranging from 22.34% to 59.92%. The highest yield obtained at 60 °C with molar ratio of methanol : oil is 8:1 and the amount of catalyst Na2O/Fe3O4 2%-w.Keywords : biodiesel, heterogeneous catalyst, off-grade palm, rsm, transesterification.

Abstract

Indonesia is one of the countries that located in quake zone. The potential of earthquake that could cause the damage to the building should be considered into the design of the building. Therefore, one of the solutions to analyzing the structural responses and the damage level promptly and easily when the earthquake occurred is with using Artificial Neural Network (ANN). The building model is a reinforced concrete building with 10 floors and height between floor is 3.6 m. Model building receives a load of earthquake based on earthquake time history of New Zealand, San Francisco, Cape Mendocino, El Centro, Loma Prieta, San Fernando, Kocaely, Nenana and Danieli. Each time history scaled to 0,5g, 0,75g, and 1,0g. In addition, this earthquake time history also scaled to the PGA of Pekanbaru. Artificial Neural Network (ANN) are designed in 4 architectural models using MATLAB program. Model 1 is ANN with the input of the displacement, velocity and, Model 2 is ANN with the input of displacement, Model 3 is ANN with the input of velocity, and Model 4 is JST with the input of acceleration. Output of the ANN is the damage level of building with the category of Safe, Immediate Occupancy (IO), Life Safety (LS) or in a condition of Collapse Prevention (CP). Artificial neural network trained with 8 data sets of earthquake time history, and the remaining 1 data set of earthquake time history was used for simulation. Artificial neural network models has the prediction rate to predict the damage level between 85%-95%. The results from simulation with the 913 data from time history of Danieli’s earthquake for all scales is 93,32% data could be predicted correctly by ANN Model 1. For the Model 2, Model 3, Model 4 in a row could provide prediction correctly up to 92,11%,91,46% and 87,62%. This indicates that artificial neural networks can predict the damage level of building with average accuracy 90,13%.Keywords: Artificial neural network, structural response, time history, damage level.

Abstract

The availability of palm frond has a potential to use for decrease utilization of woods directly. One application is the wood plastic composite (WPC). Research on the WPC is still growing which aimsto continue to get better quality of product. The objective of this research was to determine the effect of palm frond composition to properties and the morphology of wood plastic composite(WPC). The Composition of palm frond measured at - 40 ~ +80 as the filler and the polypropylene as the matrix is 30:70 which mix with additive 2% and Maleic Anhydride Polypropylene (MAPP) 5%. Palm frond prepared using oxalic acid, potassium hydroxide, sodium hydroxide and hydrogen peroxide at a temperature of 120oC with 15 minutes immersion time. Filler mixing process, matrix, and the additive use Labo Plastomill internal mixer at a temperature of 170oC and the rotor speed at 80 rpm. Tests include cellulose test while the mechanical properties testing are tensile strength and flexural strength, and physical properties include density, water absorption and thickness swelling. Morphology test used the electron microscopy scanning with amagnification of 100 and 500 times. The results showed that the type of preparation has a relatively significant influence. Best WPC material is used oxalic acid mixture at a temperature of 120oC with19,214 MPa tensile strength, flexural strength of 43 639 MPa, density 0974 gr / cm3, 0.32% water absorption and thickness swelling 1.42%.Keyword: filler, palm frond, wood plastic composite
