Abstract

have been increasing lately, the local government continues to balance the growth with improving the quality of existing infrastructure in the city of Banjarmasin. One of its main targets is Syamsudin Noor Airport, where the government plans to create a new terminal at the international scale. As the starting gate to the city of Banjarmasin, the airport is considered to be a top priority that must be improved in quality and quantity in order to support the economic growth rate in the city of Banjarmasin. Seeing the opportunity is exactly what makes an airport Syamsudin Noor as an object on the design this time. Along side with the planning process that has been entered into the bidding process, then some technical matters to the concept has been determined. So it developed into three main purpose of designing this time, where the arrival terminal at the airport Syamsudin Noor will be able to describe the characteristic of Banjarmasin city, accompanied by a Sustainable Design as an embodiment of the concept of a global concept that has been determined to be ecological, as well as the design of the arrival terminal capable enough to adapt the shape of technical and architectural terms. This goal is accomplished by designing a method adapted from the Design Thinking process undertaken by Sun Sigma Framework for New Product. From the results of the design process can be seen that the achievement of the first goal is reached by election of the material with local materials, notching obtained from processed philosophical form of local buildings, and involving the local community. For the second purpose was reached with universal design, selection of materials and environmentally friendly interior elements that support energy efficiency. Abstract

With life that has been getting more modern and advanced lifestyle, people are demanded to be busy with work and often forget the need of resting. When people are resting, they need relaxation. In addition to materials and toys in the shape of furniture, it is also important to consider a detail ergonomic dimension to support comfort in use, so that the purpose of the relaxation can be achieved. This research is supported by data from literature on lounge chairs, and therefor it will obtain a furniture design for villas that are capable of supporting the relaxing function optimally. The lounge chairs have a backrest characteristic with a slope of more than 90 degrees and has a backrest for the feet, so the chairs can sustain the whole body of the user.

Abstract

St.Joseph’s Catholic Church Gedangan is the forerunner of the Catholic Church in Indonesia. This church is a relic of the Dutch colonial era, so it has historical value and unique both in terms of architecture and interior elements. In the interior elements of this church there is are synbols that are used. These symbols not only as form of aesthetics only, but has special meaning to be conveyed by the symbols on each part. To get the meanings embodied in symbols in this church, researchers used the basic theory of meaning by Roland Barthes. There are two meanings, which are denotation meaning and connotative meaning. Denotation meaning produces a discrption of an existing symbol, while conotative meaning generate meaning contained within symbol. The result showed that in each symbol with different placement have different meanings, and each symbol that is an expression of the faith of Catholic.

Abstract

In general, children spending their times with plays and trying new things. In this periods child should doing many things so they can grow optimally. However, gadgets make them don't do what they actually need to do for their physical development, they rely on their little 10 fingers and parents miss the chance to look at their child physical development. Based on the problems that had been described, we realized that we need a cooperation between parents and their children, we need something that attracts children to think and move. Through this knockdown system puzzle chair design, we can use it to improve the cooperation between parents and their children,  improving their(child) creativity, and stimulates their(child) motoric, Because this chair is designed not only used as usual chair but also used as children toys.

Abstract

Surabaya Fire Department has important role to secure the safety of the city from fire disaster. Besides handling the wildfire, another role is to educate society about actions that cause wildfire and wildfire prevention. On the other hand, the society is lacking the interest of wildfire information. They believe that wildfire is hazardous and not supposed to be tried.In this design, the designer uses Design Thinking methods to find solutions and implements in the design. The design purpose is to create a fire department information center that does not exist in Surabaya as an education and recreation place for the people. This information center will be supported by some informative facilities such as information center, audio visual room and some simulation areas that can be used for practice directly, such as: smoke simulation, emergency simulation, VR simulation, emergency stairs simulation, sliding pole and fire simulation.

Abstract

Indonesia is rich with its natural resources. There are many kinds of flora and fauna live in Indonesia’s forest. Their diversity becomes the identity’s symbol of many regions in Indonesia. One of them is East Kalimantan, who uses their distinctive and almost extinct flower called Black Orchid as their region’s symbol. Currently, Balikpapan government, one of the East Kalimantan’s regions, vigorously inviting people to recognize and help them to preserve the Black Orchid’s population. That invitation certainly will not run smoothly without any program that able to urge people to get involved and feel it directly. Therefore, this issue requires a place that is not just for botanists develop the orchids scientifically, but also a place that can reach out the public. In this case, a recreational place that has some orchid educational programs will be the right solution overseeing the advancement of Balikpapan city. The Interior Design of Orchid Conservation Center has several goals to be achieved. Designer wants to bring an Orchid Conservation Center where botanists and orchid lovers are able to cultivate orchids, as they want. In addition, designer wants to bring some values, such us educational, recreational, preservation, and local content in this Conservation Center. Later, the Conservation Center will be presented in a concept that contains all those values. The educational value is presented together with the recreational value so that visitors are able to learn in a fun way with the new interactive technologies. Apart from that, preservation and local content values will be presented by showing some of the traits of the society and the environment of Kalimantan so that visitors are able to know better and love the richness of their nature and local culture, which need their hands to treat and preserve them well. In this orchid conservation center, all activities of conservation and cultivation will be shown transparently, in hope that the visitors will be able to see and experiment directly on how to grow an Orchid. Starting from there, public are expected to be interested and start to want to help preserve the Black Orchid.

Abstract

Due Due to the change of habittation pattern and lifestyle in metropolis city like surabaya, society this day tend to choose limited occupancy living spacesuch as apartment. This limitation on space would affect  couples who has a 0 to 8 years old child that need a lot of space for their playing activity and learning facility. The solution for this problem is to have a multifunctional  furniture  that suitable for the playing activity and learning in home with practical fun concept which has three main values in designing such as playable, useful, and enjoyable refering to the character of the child. Inspiration, ideation, and implementation are the three design thinking stages being used in the design research. and from these three steps, the design process extended to understanding, observe, pay, ideate, prototype, story telling, pilot, and business model. This design process was  analyzed  from the shape, function, psychological, and ergonomics aspect that presented on the design  through the three alternatives in the multifunctional furniture.there are three sets of related products  In every of each furniture that fullfil the activity and facility needs of the child according to the development.The outcome of thus design practices are three sets of sleeping set, sitting set, and storage set which has a function of baby highchair, babywalker, child seat, baby crib, baby tafel, play yardchildbed, single sized bed, wardrobe, toy rack, book rack, whiteboard, study desk, and playing desk. Moreover, there is an educational based game that focused on language, math, shape,  and music.

Abstract

Newspapers production produce tons of waste every day throughout Indonesia. Although the waste generated will be recycled for the next newspapers production, the fiber contained in the paper has its limitation. The problem statement of this research is how to process the newspapers’ waste into material for the furniture manufacturing and its application to the test making of chair furniture and bench. For that, mixed methods will be used in the research, which is a method that combines the qualitative approach and quantitative approach in order to understand the research better. To support the quantitative method in this study, the newspapers sheets experiment was conducted into a newspapers panel. The material used is newspapers sheet glued per sheet.                Optimized newspaper panels are made using yellow glue solution and glue diluent with a 2:1 ratio. Each size of ¼ pages of newspaper requires 2.5 ml of yellow glue solution per sheet, so for the size of 1 page of newspaper requires as much as 10 ml per sheet. The resulting panel has unstable thickness and weight because the workmanship uses manpower. The thickness and size of the panel produced affects the strength of the newspapers panel, as well as material panels in general. In addition, the treatment for panel construction as a furniture material cannot be equated with the construction treatment of processed wood waste material although initially the newspaper is considered processed wood.

Abstract

Religion is one of the human needs that need to be improved in order to build human's spirituality. One of the places of worship for the people of faith is the church. Church should have an interior that can support people to feel comfortable especially when they are worshipping, also help them to concentrate when following the ceremony. Aside from a place to worship, Church also has a role to improve the relationship between people through their communal space. Strategic location in one of the main road in Surabaya make this church design has a very good opportunity to attract people to come and worship.

Abstract

Rattan is a material that widely found in Indonesia, especially in Borneo (Kalimantan). In the design, rattan is used as the main material for the product. The product was a furniture set for commercial building, especially cafe. It was designed based on the needs of commercial buildings development and considered as a good opportunity for commercial building product. The target market for this design is the middle-upper class in Kalimantan. The design was inspired by the floating market, which was a local culture of South Kalimantan and the icon of Banjarmasin. The design method adopts some steps of design thinking such as understanding, observe, frame and reframe, ideate, prototype, and test. The dynamic move is a concept that was adapted from the floating market in Kalimantan. The resulting products which are bench, stool, coffee table, and dining chair, show an innovative and dynamic shape which could give a movement impression.
