Abstract

Background: Gay is one of high-risk groups to have depression. The prevalence of depression in gay is reportedly higher than that in heterosexual people. Gay is often faced to low self-acceptance or social-acceptance problems which potentially lead to depression. This study aimed to seek the correlation between self-acceptance and depression in gay community. Methods: This was an analytical study using cross sectional approach, conducted in May 2013 at Gessang Foundation in Surakarta. Samples were purposively selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Subjects were asked to fill in: (1) biodata and informed consent forms, (2) the L-MMPI questionnaire to evaluate respondents’ truthfulness in answering questionnaires, (3) the Berger’s Self-Acceptance Scale questionnaire to measure self-acceptance scores, and (4) the Beck’s Depression Inventory Scale to measure depression scores. Samples were excluded when either declined at least 10 statements from the L-MMPI questionnaire, did not completely fill in the forms and questionnaires, had chronic diseases, or were on long-term medications. Data were analyzed by Pearson’s Product Moment correlation test using SPSS 20.0 for Windows. Results: The self-acceptance of 31 subjects eligible for this study was relatively low (mean score = 104.6). The overall mean of depression scores was 14.7 and only 6 subjects (19.4%) were not having depression as they scored less than 10. The analysis  showed a Pearson’s correlation coefficient (r) of -0.758 (p<0.001), suggesting that self-acceptance and depression were significantly negatively correlated. Conclusion: There was a strong and statistically significant negative correlation between self-acceptance and depression at a gay community in Surakarta. Keywords: Self-acceptance, Depression, Gay

All subjects who met inclusion criteria were assessedfordepressionsymptoms using the Beck Depression Inventoryquestionnaire.Data on age at menarche, heightand weight, monthlyincome ofbothparents, andbirth order were collected.Data wereanalyzed by multivariatelogisticregression. Results: Of 111 participating subjects, 63,1% had experienced early menarche and 53,7% of whom had depression symptoms. In multivariate analysis, ageat menarchewas not statistically significantly associated with depression (OR=1.66;95% CI=0.716–3.863;p=0.237)after adjusting for body mass index and birth order. Abstract

Background: Antibiotics are the drugs most widely used and abused in the world. The most frequent form of antibiotic misuse is self-medication by various groups of society including students. Lacking of knowledge of the students, especially non-medical students, about antibiotics plays an important role in the discovery of many cases of antibiotics misuse. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between knowledge about antibiotics with usage frequency of non-prescription antibiotics on non-medical student of Sebelas Maret University. Method: This study was an observational analytic study with cross sectional approach. Sample collected from 186 non-medical students from 5 faculties in Sebelas Maret University which were randomly drawn by cluster random sampling technique. Each respondent was given a questionnaire regarding knowledge about antibiotics and the usage frequency of non-prescription antibiotics that has been tested for validity and reliability by researcher. The research data were tested with the nonparametric Spearman correlation test (α = 0.05). Result: Spearman correlation test results a significant correlation between knowledge about antibiotics with usage frequency of non-prescription antibiotics on non-medical students of Sebelas Maret University with p < 0.05 (p = 0.000). The test results also showed a strong correlation between the two variables with a correlation coefficient (r) -0.681, with increased knowledge about antibiotics will decrease the usage frequency of non-prescription antibiotics on non-medical students of Sebelas Maret University. Conclusion: There was a strong relationship between knowledge about antibiotics with the usage frequency of non-prescription antibiotics on non-medical students of Sebelas Maret University. Better knowledge of antibiotics, would reduce the usage frequency of non-prescription antibiotics. Keywords: antibiotics, knowledge about antibiotics, the usage frequency of non-prescription antibiotics

Methods: This study was an observational study with a cross-sectional approach in the elderly villager of Bolon, Colomadu, Karanganyar. Subjek was 72 elderly aged ≥ 60 years. Baseline intake of fruits and vegetables was assessed by food frequency questionnaires. Fruits and vegetables group was divided into banana, apple, spinach, and tomato which was in journal can reduced blood pressure (sistolic and diastolic). Chi-square test was used to examine relationship fruit and vegetable consumption with hypertension. Results: Chi-square test frequency of consumption banana, apple, spinach and tomato with hypertension consecutive p-value = 0.681, 0.320, 0.122, 0.315. Conclusions: There was no relationship frequency of consumption of bananas, apples, spinach, and tomatoes with hypertension. Keywords: hypertension, fruit consumption, vegetable consumption, elderly

The study is conducted on 40 samples according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria that have been set. Data were collected from questionnaires by respondents. The data were statistically tested with Chi Square test, which is followed by using Multiple Logistic Regression Analysis to determine the relationship between variables which has controlled the confounding variable. Results: The statistical analysis result for Multiple Logistic Regression Analysis shows the value of p = 0.816 and Odds Ratio = 1.23. Conclusions: Based on the test result of Multiple Logistic Regression Analysis, it can be concluded that physical activity and sexual libido of male office workers in Grogol Subdistrict, Sukoharjo, is related in a negative way, but the result was not statistically significant. Backgrounds: Diarrhea is one of the highest cause of mortality and morbidity in children, especially under five-years old. Outbreak of diarrhea also often happen with high Case Fatality Rate (CFR). Diarrhea can be prevented if the community can apply clean and health behavior. The purpose of this research is to analyze the correlation of clean and health behavior in a household with the incidence of diarrhea in children under five-years old. Methods: This research was an observational epidemiology research with the case control approach. It was held in May-June 2014 in the territories of Puskesmas Ngoresan Jebres. Sampling had been done by fixed-disease sampling, and the selection was done by checking the inclusion and exclusion criteria of the study sample. Data was collected using questioner and independent interview to the respondent. Data obtained by 60 subjects and analyzed by Chi Square Test. Results: Based on the result of Chi Square test, there was a significant difference between the group of people with clean and health behavior in a household with the incidence of diarrhea, whereas the value of p (<0,001) < 0,05. Out of eight indicators, there are four indicators which have a significant correlation  with the incidence of diarrhea, those are the use of clean water (p value <0,001), waste management (p value <0,001), use of floor (p value <0,001) and use of latrines (p value 0,042).
