Abstract

Drought stress caused by limited water supply in the root zone can inhibit plant growth. Foxtail millet (Setaria italica L. Beauv) is an alternative carbohydrate source known for its drought tolerance and ease of cultivation. Biofertilizers based on Trichoderma sp. can serve as biological agents that promote plant growth under abiotic stress conditions, including drought. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of Trichoderma sp. application on growth and yield of foxtail millet under drought stress conditions. This study was conducted at the Munjuljaya Experimental Field, Purwakarta Regency, using a factorial Randomized Block Design (RBD) with three replications. The first factor was Trichoderma sp. dosage with four levels: T0 (0 g), T1 (20 g), T2 (40 g), and T3 (60 g). The second factor was drought stress with three levels: C1 (25% field capacity), C2 (50% field capacity), and C3 (75% field capacity). In total, 30 experimental units were tested. The results showed that Trichoderma sp. application and water treatment did not significantly affect plant height, tiller number, leaf chlorophyll index, panicle length, panicle weight, fresh root weight, root length, 1000-seed weight, and shoot-root ratio. However, the highest dosage of Trichoderma sp. improved several growth parameters, such as plant height in T3 (60 g) with 78.13 cm, panicle length in T3 (60 g) with 8.77 cm, fresh root weight at 81 DAP (days after planting) in T3 (60 g) with 6.88 g, and the highest shoot-root ratio in T3 (60 g) with 3.35. This study has an impact on the growth and yield of millet because Trichoderma sp. plays a role in root growth and plant nutrient absorption.

Abstract

The performance of the cross-bred population in the F4 generation will confirm the plant breeding process, which is expected to approach the desired traits and understand how genetic traits are manifested in a population and their interactions with the environment. This research aimed to determine the performance of rice characteristics of F4 populations progeny from crossing of Inpago Unsoed 1 × Basmati Delta 9, and find out the closest relation, direct effect, indirect effect, and some characteristics of growth and yield. The experimental design used was a Randomized Block Design with Augmented Design treatment design with five blocks. The treatment tested in 150 rice genotypes of the F4 population progeny from crossing of Inpago Unsoed 1 × Basmati Delta 9 and 5 comparison varieties including Inpago Unsoed 1, Basmati Delta 9, Protani, Pro 20 Tangguh, and Inpari 31. The characters observed included plant height, flowering age, number of productive tillers, panicle length, harvest age, grain weight per clump, grain weight per panicle, number of grains per panicle, percentage of grain content per panicle, weight of 1000 seeds, rice length, and rice form. The yield showed that the performance of F4 population progeny from crossing of Inpago Unsoed 1 and Basmati Delta 9 was a population that was still segregated, indicated by the performance of F4 individuals who were higher than their parents, some were lower than their parents, and some were higher than one of their parents. Characters that correlate significantly and positively with yield include grain weight per panicle, number of grains per panicle, number of productive tillers, percentage of grain content, plant height, panicle length, and weight of 1000 seeds. The most closely related characters to yield and the highest direct effect are the grain weight per panicle and number of productive tillers, so that these characters can be used as an indicator selection in the next generation.

Abstract

Pagoda mustard (Brassica narinosa L.) is a leafy vegetable with high nutritional value, well-suited for hydroponic cultivation in limited land areas. Research on integrating Liquid Organic Fertilizer (LOF) and AB Mix (inorganic nutrients) in hydroponic systems generally aims to identify a nutrient management strategy that is balanced, cost-effective, and sustainable. This study evaluated the effects of varying AB Mix nutrient concentrations and foliar application of LOF on the growth and yield of pagoda mustard grown in a floating raft hydroponic system. The experimental design was a factorial Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with two factors: AB Mix concentration (800 ppm, 1000 ppm, 1200 ppm, 1400 ppm, and 1600 ppm) and LOF application (0 and 2 ml/l), resulting in 10 treatment combinations with three replications. Growth parameters measured included plant height (cm), number of leaves, leaf area (cm²), root volume (ml), and shoot-to-root ratio. Yield parameters included fresh weight (g) and dry weight (g). Results indicated that AB Mix concentration significantly affected plant height but had no significant impact on the number of leaves, leaf area, root volume, fresh weight, or dry weight. LOF application did not produce statistically significant effects on any measured parameters, although it showed a numerical trend toward increasing average values in most variables. Furthermore, the interaction between AB Mix concentration and LOF application did not significantly influence the growth or yield of pagoda mustard.

Abstract

Indonesia's high rice consumption, with a population of 284.4 million, stands in contrast to the national production levels in 2024. Based on data from that year, total annual rice production reached only approximately 29.80 million tons, which was insufficient to meet domestic demand. This shortfall occurred as paddy production in 2024 declined to 53.14 million tons (dry harvested grain), a 2.43% decrease compared to the 53.98 million tons produced in 2023. The environmentally friendly System of Rice Intensification (SRI) can enhance productivity by up to 50%. Indonesia's rich marine biodiversity, particularly seaweed, can serve as a biostimulant through extraction. Biostimulants contain compounds and microorganisms that enhance nutrient use efficiency in plants. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of seaweed extract concentrations on the growth and yield of rice and to assess its potential as a natural biostimulant for sustainable rice productivity, supporting organic farming. The study was conducted from June to October 2025 in rice fields at Koto Luar, Pauh, Padang. A Randomized Block Design (RBD) with one factor seaweed extract concentrations at 0%, 0.4%, 0.8%, 1.2%, and 1.6%. The data was analysed with analysis of variance at a 5% significance level and mean comparison of the Duncan’s New Multiple Range Test (DMRT) via STAR® (Statistical Tool for Agricultural Research). The research results showed that the seaweed extract at the 1.6% concentration was the best treatment effected of plant growth, yield components and crop yield of rice. The findings recommend increasing seaweed extract concentrations to enhance rice growth and yield.
