Abstract

Storage pests are one of many factors causing damage of storage commodities, both quantitatively and qualitatively.  This study aimed for indentifiying insect storage pests of rice, corn, and soybean in Batuwarno District, Wonogiri Regency. The  insect identification was conducted based on their morphological character (color, body shape, antennae, wing shape size, and number of tarsi). The commodity sampling in Batuwarno was taken by selecting the farmers in Sumberejo Village who have these three commodities. 4 of 12 farmers who had the three commodities (rice, cornm and soybean) in their storage were selected.  The method used in picking pest was by handpicking (directly). The sample was taken from five points, namely at the corners and center diagonally in the storage. Results showed that the insects were belong to Coleoptera and Lepidoptera, namely Sitophilus oryzae, Sttotroga cerealella, Callosobruchus sp, Tribolium castaneum, Sitophilus zeamals, and Araecerus fasciculatus.

Abstract

As a horticultural crop with high economic and cultural values, the productivity of chili (Capsicum annum L.) fluctuates from time to time. This is influenced by changes in weather and climate which lead to the low resistance of chili plants to pests and diseases. Climate change can affect the existence of pests and diseases in plants and even reduce yields between 10-28% on a global scale. Bacteria, in association with plants, can be both pathogenic and non-pathogenic. While pests tend to have a negative relationship with plants because they can cause damage to plants. Banyumas Regency (Central Java) is one of the districts that contribute to the supply of chili which is important to increase production. This study aims to distinguish pathogenic and non-pathogenic bacteria, which are carried by insects in chili planting fields in 3 (three) endemic locations for pest attacks, namely Sumbang, Sokaraja, and Karanglewas Districts. The research was conducted from March to November 2021. As many as 83.33% of the total grown isolates did not show hypersensitive reactions while the others showed positive results. However, further research needs to be carried out for further research (characterization, identification, and other potential of the isolated insect-borne bacteria).

Abstract

The goals of this study were to explore and identify entomopathogenic fungi, as well as determine the most effective application techniques to control S. frugiperda from exploration of infected Spodoptera frugiperda larvae in Purbalingga Regency. The research was carried out at the Plant Protection Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Jenderal Soedirman University, from January to May 2022. Samples were collected by purposive random method. The study used a Complete Randomized Design, consisting of two factors, namely the type of entomopathogenic fungus and the application technique, with 9 combinations and 3 replications. Observed variables include mortality, feeding activity, growth, and reproduction of larvae. The results showed that (1) the results of exploration of entomopathogenic fungi were from the genus Metarhizium sp. and Penicillium sp. (2) single treatment of Metarhizium sp. is more effective than Penicillium sp. in killing S. frugiperda larvae. Fungi Metarhizium sp. and Penicillium sp. decreased feeding activity, length of three-instar larval period, and number of eggs, respectively 24.99 and 15.99%, 4.71 and 2.46%, 9.18 and 8.04% against controls. (3) single treatment of feed soaking method decreased mortality by 55.18% than other methods. Spraying the larval body decreased mortality by 44.84% compared to other methods. The method of application did not affect the feeding, growth and fecundity activity of larvae. (4) The combined treatment of Metarhizium sp., spraying the larval body, and soaking feed had a mortality percentage of 60%. Interaction treatment of the fungus Metarhizium sp. and the method of application lowered the feed power by 16%. The decrease in the period of three instar larvae to pupae and the largest number of eggs in the combination treatment of Metarhizium sp. and spraying of larval bodies was 6.34% and 11.20% respectively compared to controls. Abstract

The invasion of the ladybug (Vatiga illudens) has started a new chapter in Indonesia, with the first report of this pest in East Java Province in 2021. As a pest that attacks cassava plants, this pest is a threat to cassava plantations, one of which is in Banyumas District, Central Java Province. It is necessary to identify potential natural enemies that can become biological agents that suppress pest populations in the field and insects associated with cassava cultivations to control the pest and anticipate losses due to decreased production of cassava plants in the Banyumas District. This study aimed to explore and describe the natural enemies of ladybug pests and insects associated with cassava cultivations in the Banyumas District. The research was conducted in September 2022-January 2023 in seven cassava cultivation locations in Banyumas District. Samples of pests and or natural enemies were collected using a purposive random sampling method. The results showed a community of potential natural enemies of V. illudens and insects associated with cassava cultivations from the Orders Hemiptera, Diptera, Orthoptera, Coleoptera, and Araneae. The Results showed that 15 species act as potential natural enemies, eight species as pests, and two species as none of them (neutral).

Abstract

Abstract

Spiders are the main natural enemies (predators) for pests that attack crops. Knowledge about the relationship between Arthropods found on agricultural land and the bacteria carrying these animals, which are symbiotic, still needs to be found in Indonesia. Spiders are important biocontrol agents in agricultural land. This study examined the relationship between bacteria potentially carried by spiders, as members of the Phylum Arthropoda, in chili plants grown in agroecosystems. This study aimed to determine the presence of bacteria carried by spiders in chili planting areas of the Banyumas Regency. This study found a species of spider (Oxyopes lineatipes) collected from chili crops in 3 (three) sub-districts in Banyumas Regency. From these spiders, 5 (five) bacteria isolates were found, both from inside the body and from the surface of the spider's body. The results of the hypersensitivity test showed that 2 (two) isolates were non-pathogenic bacteria, while the other 3 (three) isolates had potential as plant pathogens. However, further research is still being carried out regarding identifying the bacterial species found.
