Abstract

Trash, especially plastic trash in the water, remains a problem in Indonesia due to the fact that conventional methods are restricted and employ inefficient heavy equipment. Automation-based technological solutions, such as the Remote Controlled (RC) Boat Trash Collector, are promising and sustainable answers. This research focuses on the design and implementation of a remote steering mechanism for a solar-powered RC Boat Trash Collector. This system is energized by solar panels as a source of renewable energy, a conveyor system for garbage picking, and a Jumper T-Lite V2 2.4 GHz frequency remote control as the main controller. The process of research was carried out by designing, constructing, and testing the performance of the ship, for example, testing the drive motor, servo rudder, conveyor system, and test range control. The test results showed that the steering system responds well with an effective range of up to 300 meters, and the solar panels can extend the vessel's operating time. The conveyor mechanism also performs well in gathering floating debris into a collection bin. By the integration of this system, the RC Boat Trash Collector has proven to be effective, efficient, and environmentally friendly in assisting waste cleaning in bodies of water while being a platform for the implementation of sustainable, renewable energy technology.

Abstract

The proper selection of suppliers is a crucial factor in the manufacturing industry as it significantly influences production efficiency and the quality of final products. PT Techno Wood Indonesia, a company engaged in the production of decorative panels, highly depends on high-quality plywood as its main raw material. This study applies the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method to determine the best plywood supplier based on relevant criteria. Data were collected through observation, interviews, documentation, and questionnaires distributed to the Purchasing/Procurement staff, supported by secondary data from company documents and literature. The results indicate four main criteria with the following weights: Performance (0.537), Quality (0.271), Cost (0.131), and Responsiveness (0.061). From the global priority synthesis, PT Sumitomo Forestry ranked first with a weight of 0.476, followed by PT SMB Gobel Indonesia (0.362) and PT Itochu Indonesia IDR (0.162). These findings highlight that PT Techno Wood Indonesia prioritizes performance and quality over cost and responsiveness, with PT Sumitomo Forestry identified as the primary plywood supplier.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of the granulator machine at the NPK Phonska I Plant of PT Petrokimia Gresik through an integrated Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) approach. The granulator machine frequently fails to achieve the 2024 production target of 37,500 tons per month due to high downtime (89.24 hours/month) and defective products reaching 17,847 tons annually. The research applies OEE to calculate availability, performance efficiency, and quality rate, followed by Six Big Losses classification and FTA to determine the fundamental causes of machine underperformance. The findings show that the average OEE is 62.1%, significantly below the world-class benchmark of 85%, with the largest losses coming from equipment failure (49.00%) and reduced speed losses (37.75%). The novelty of this research lies in the integration of OEE–FTA with additional correlation analysis between downtime and defect ratios and the identification of heat-related and material-variability effects specific to fertilizer granulation. Scientifically, this study contributes a structured improvement framework tailored for the national fertilizer industry, offering evidence-based maintenance strategies and operational insights to support the company’s effort in achieving world-class machine effectiveness.

Abstract

Effective inventory control is essential in make-to-order (MTO) flexible packaging operations, where packing materials often exhibit irregular and highly variable usage patterns. This study proposes an integrated inventory control model that combines probabilistic Safety Stock (SS) and Reorder Point (ROP) calculations with a spreadsheet-based Traffic Light System (TLS) as a practical, low-cost monitoring tool. Using historical consumption and supplier lead-time data, the analysis determines demand variability and applies a 90% service level (Z = 1.28) to calculate buffer stock requirements. Results show that high usage variability substantially increases SS and ROP values. For the key item examined, SS is calculated at 265 units and ROP at 1,380 units, highlighting the importance of statistical methods compared to manual estimation. The TLS simulation applied across all materials improves early detection of low-stock risks and enhances PPIC responsiveness. Sensitivity testing indicates that raising the service level to 95% increases SS by about 28%, demonstrating the trade-off between reliability and inventory costs. This study contributes by integrating SS–ROP computation, usage classification, and real-time visual monitoring into a unified operational framework. The model strengthens data-driven decision-making and reduces stockout risk in flexible packaging manufacturing.

Abstract

Industrial development in Indonesia highly depends on human resources as the primary element to ensure operational continuity and efficiency. This study analyzes the workload of employees using the Workload Analysis (WLA) method to determine the optimal number of workers in the Production Department 1A of PT XYZ. Data used in this research include production realization, shift distribution, and downtime records throughout 2024. The WLA method was applied systematically through stages of productivity calculation, uniformity test, data adequacy test, standard time calculation, and workload ratio assessment. The findings indicate that the employees’ workload ratio reached 94.44%, meaning most of the employees’ working capacity was efficiently utilized without exceeding the maximum limit. The optimal number of workers required for the department is eight people per group, which matches the actual workforce in the field. Although the production performance decreased between August and October, it was primarily caused by equipment downtime rather than excessive workload. These results highlight that the workforce distribution and performance at PT XYZ remain within efficient and acceptable operational standards. Keywords: Workload Analysis, Employee Efficiency, Human Resource Planning, Productivity, Industrial Operations.

Abstract

Micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) are important economic drivers for Indonesia, especially in labor-intensive sectors like footwear manufacturing. MSMEs, though, face acute logistical problems because of heterogeneous customer demand, limited production capacity, and ever-increasing transportation costs. Few existing works have focused on monthly logistics planning for MSMEs in developing countries with realistic costing and demand structures. To develop and analyze a Genetic Algorithm (GA) optimization model to maximize profit within a constrained monthly footwear profit distribution network. To achieve this, we needed to assess how multi-retailer product allocation balance could be achieved with minimum operational constraints such as production caps, cost-efficient logistics, and streamlined processes. This study employed a quantitative experimental design approach and implemented a GA with real-valued chromosome representation, tournament selection, single-point crossover, and Gaussian mutation. The model was built using real data from a footwear MSME operating in the Lamongan and Tulungagung regions of Indonesia. The algorithm was implemented using Python and tested for reliability with 10 executed validations for independence. Within 60 generations, the GA maintained consistent convergence and achieved a final fitness value with a coefficient of variation of 0.24%. The optimized allocation achieved a net profit margin of 15.22% while utilizing the available production capacity (600 units/month). Because of increased profit contribution, greater-distance wholesale customers were served first despite incurring higher transport costs. The model had no constraint violation and reduced transportation costs to 1.45% of total revenue. Using GA to address multi-objective distribution challenges in the context of MSMEs appeared to have positive results, confirming the effectiveness of this approach. The proposed approach helps frame and guide critical allocation and routing decisions, which can be made within the boundaries of operational constraints. Further work is needed to incorporate stochastic demand modelling and multi-objective problem extensions and seek real-time application to bolster support for decision-making in dynamic scenarios.
