Abstract

This research aims to analyze the financial and non-financial feasibility of vaname shrimp cultivation using three different cultivation technologies, namely simple, semi-intensive and intensive in Purworejo, Pasir Sakti Lampung, East Lampung. This research is a survey with a total of 13 respondents. The research results showed that the BEP volume for each technology was 151.94 kg, 4,825.55 kg and 5,755.12 kg. BEP prices for each technology are IDR38,491.07, IDR47,939.79 and IDR69,398.88. B/C ratio for each technology is 1.97, 2.49 and 2.39. The payback period for each technology is 2.29 years, 0.55 years and 0.66 years. The IRR for each technology is 69%, 58% and 50%. Thus, cultivating vaname shrimp using semi-intensive and intensive technology is very feasible to develop, while simple technology is quite feasible to develop. Sensitivity analysis of a 10% increase in feed prices has a sensitive impact on semi-intensive and intensive technology shrimp cultivation. The non-financial feasibility analysis of three cultivation technologies includes market, technical, technological, legal and socio-economic environmental aspects of implementation in accordance with the Regulation of the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries of the Republic of Indonesia Number 75/PERMEN-KP/2016 concerning General Guidelines for Raising Tiger Prawns and Vaname Shrimp, so that it can be declared worthy to continue.

Abstract

Glagah District is the main area for white shrimp culture with freshwater rearing media in Lamongan Regency, so it is necessary to conduct research to determine the sustainability status of freshwater white shrimp culture in Glagah District. The research locations are in seven villages, namely Soko, Pasi, Margoanyar, Glagah, Jatirenggo, Bapuhbaru, and Karangturi. Sustainability status can be measured by considering five aspects of sustainability which include ecology, economy, social, technology, and institutions. In this study, the analysis was carried out using the RAPFISH (Rapid Appraisal for Fisheries) application with the Multi Dimensional Scaling (MDS) method. This study adopted a quantitative descriptive method, with data collection conducted through a survey. The results of the analysis using the Multidimensional Scaling (MDS) approach to 20 cultivation attributes in the ecological, economic, social, technological and institutional dimensions yielded the following sustainability indexes: 52.23% for the ecological dimension, 58.51% for the economic dimension, 78.47 % for the social dimension, 53.77% for the technological dimension, and 40.46% for the institutional dimension. With an average sustainability index value of 56.69%, it can be concluded that the freshwater white shrimp culture in Glagah District is quite sustainable.

Abstract

The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries oversees Marine Tourism Village, an initiative for the growth of marine tourism. One of the Maritime Tourism Villages in Kendal Regency is Jungsemi Village, which has a beach run by Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes) as its main draw. This study aims to estimate the Willingness to Pay (WTP) value of beach tourism entrance tickets at Jungsemi Maritime Tourism Village so that the optimum entrance ticket price will be obtained. A dichotomous choice questionnaire was employed to collect data on the socio-economic characteristics of 79 respondents who visited the beach, with the aim of determining the average WTP value. The WTP estimation results show that respondents are willing to pay a beach entrance ticket of IDR6,700 to maintain cleanliness and natural beauty, as well as the addition of comfortable tourist facilities. This is higher than the current admission price of IDR5,000 per person. Based on a simple linear regression model, it has been demonstrated that an increase in the admission fee by IDR1,000 per individual results in a decrease of 426 visitors to the tourist destination. With current conditions, this means that an extra 20% in entry ticket prices only reduces the number of visitors by 0.56%, showing that visitor demand is relatively inelastic and hence there is still room to increase entrance ticket prices.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused unprecedented disruption to the global economy and society, including fisheries and aquaculture. This study aims to analyze the impact of COVID-19 on the fisheries sector in Indonesia, focusing on the case of Pondokdadap Fishing Port, one of the main landing sites for tuna and other pelagic fish in East Java Province. This study compared data from 2019 (before the pandemic) and 2020 (during the pandemic) to assess changes and trends in the volume and value of fish production, the number of fishing trips, fish prices, and fishers' income at Pondokdadap Fishing Port. This study found that COVID-19 has significantly reduced the volume and value of fish production, the number of fishing trips, fish prices, and fishers' income at Pondokdadap Fishing Port. There are several possible causes and consequences, such as decreased demand, supply chain disruption, health risks or food insecurity. This research also identifies several policy responses and recommendations to mitigate the negative impacts and enhance the recovery of the fisheries sector, such as providing income support, facilitating market access, improving health measures, or strengthening policies on the capture fisheries sector. This research contributes to filling a gap in the literature on the impact of COVID-19 on fisheries in developing countries, particularly Indonesia.

Abstract

Social, economic, and institutional aspects are crucial for supporting sustainable fisheries management. The objective of this research is to assess the level of sustainability of the social, economic, and institutional aspects of fisheries management, especially at the fishing port level. In this research, field research was conducted using composite analysis and flag modelling visualization in the Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management (EAFM) as a tool to assess the sustainability of each aspect. Data were obtained from interviews and questionnaires answered by 90 respondents, including fishermen, port officers, and fisheries entrepreneurs in the Palabuhanratu Nusantara Fishing Port. The results showed that, overall, the sustainability condition in the social aspect was good with a score of 79.69, while the economic aspect was moderate with a score of 55.32, and the institutional aspect was good with a score of 80.28. The lowest levels of sustainability in the social and economic aspects were found in the indicators of stakeholder participation and fishery household income, both in the medium category. In the institutional aspect, the lowest level of sustainability was found in the indicator of compliance with responsible fisheries management principles, which was in the good category. These results are expected to provide stakeholders with the necessary information to take corrective steps to improve sustainability in fisheries management, particularly in the social and economic aspects.

Abstract

Climate change is a natural phenomenon resulting from global warming on earth which occurs continuously and increases every year. The main factor causing global warming is greenhouse gases produced from human and industrial activities. Coastal areas are zones that play a large role in the world carbon cycle which influences global warming. The low response of coastal communities to climate change can have an impact on the emergence of social and ecological problems, namely tidal floods. Social and ecological issue in coastal areas are important things that are tied to each other. The research purpose is to analyze the fishermen’s response to climate change as a mitigation and adaptation effort in Tambak Lorok, Semarang City. This research uses a mixed methode approach, with research subjects of 35 respondents. The research results show that as many as 67.72% of the fisherman’s already respond to the climate change phenomenon in Tambak Lorok, Semarang City. The climate change mitigation efforts carried out are mangrove restoration and conservation by cultivating mangroves and collaborating with Corporate Social Responsibility to carry out environmental programs based on mangrove conservation such as the planting program of 1000 mangroves in the coastal area of Tambak Lorok. It is hoped that this program can be a commitment of the community and industry that synergize to mitigate climate change in Tambak Lorok.

Abstract

Guiding barrier fishing gear has been used in recent years in the mangrove, seagrass, and coral ecosystem areas of Bontang City. In previous studies, the main target, white-spotted spinefoot fish, has depreciated and degraded as a result of overfishing. This study calculates the economic benefits and attempts to analyze the management policy of guiding barrier fishing gear to overcome the depreciation and degradation problems. To calculate the economic benefits, the fisheries production approach was used, while the policy analysis used the interpretive structural model technique. During the peak season of white-spotted spinefoot fish, the average fisherman earns up to IDR400,750 per day, with a minimum of IDR103,000 and a maximum of IDR1,904,000. The optimal fishing period is nine months, after which fishermen will stop fishing in Ramadan, August, and September. There are six guiding barrier fishing gear management policies, namely: 1) open and close systems at the installation site; 2) increase the mesh size used; 3) reduce the number; 4) moratorium on new installations; 5) limit the number of owners for each fisherman; and 6) regulate the distance between guiding barrier fishing gear. Of the six policy alternatives, the top priority is to increase the mesh size used.
