Abstract

Reduction in agricultural land with increasing population has led to a need to combined more than one crop to maximize limited land resources and thus require an improvement. A field experiment was conducted during the growing seasons of 2019 in two locations in Southwest Nigeria to assess the effect of cropping system and fertilizer application on the yield of okra intercropped with jatropha. The experiment was a split-plot arrangement in a Randomized Complete Block design, replicated three times. Fertilizer types were the main plots (NPK, Organic, Organic + NPK (50:50) and control while the cropping systems (sole okra, sole Jatropha and their intercrop) was sub-plot. Data were collected to determine okra growth  includes: plant height, number of leaves/ plant, leaf area and the yield by number of days to 50 % flowering, number of fruits/ ha, fruit yield and fruiting duration. Jatropha growth parameters  taken include: plant height (cm), number of leaves/plant. Results showed that okra can be intercropped with jatropha without any reduction it its performance. Growth of jatropha as well as okra yield was significantly better in fertilized plots than the unfertilized plots, with complementary use of organic and inorganic fertilizer producing the best results.

As Sri Lanka is on the way towards sustainable development, this study was conducted to identify the current situation of women farmers’ empowerment and food production in Imbulpe (Divisional Secretariat) DS division of the country. A sample of 300 women farmers was randomly selected for the study, from seven selected Grama Niladhari divisions (GN) of Imbulpe DS division. A field survey was carried out to data collection through a pre-tested, self-administered questionnaire from April to July 2019. Descriptive statistics, correlation analysis and regression analysis were used as the data analysis methods. Results convey that most of the women farmers were middle aged, married and had two children within their family. Furthermore, most of the respondents had secondary level of education and their average family size was four, 1.25 acres was the average farm land size. They had about 16 years of experience in the field of agriculture sector. The average monthly income of the respondents was 25,000.00 LKR (Sri Lankan Rupees). Women empowerment was measured by using the models of Rahman and Naoroze (2007); Praveen and Leonhauser (2004) with necessary modifications according to the study area. Most of the women farmers were showed social empowerment aspect and political empowerment aspect reported as the least empowerment aspect according to the unit empowerment measures. Out of the socio-economic factors size of the farm land, number of agricultural training programs participated, monthly income of the family, respondents level of education and number of agricultural training programs attended were indicated significant and positive effect for the empowerment of women farmers. Accessibility of credit facilities and agricultural extension program participation showed that there was a considerable impact on food production rather than the cultivable land size and utilization of modern farming technologies for food production. Therefore, providing of timely important agricultural education and training programs, enhance awareness level of modern farming technology utilization, better micro finance programs and agricultural credit facilities will be able to upgrade the level of empowerment of women farmers in Imbulpe DS division furthermore.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of market strategy on marketing performance in smallholder rubber in Kuantan Tengah District, Kuntang Singingi Regency, Riau. These market strategies include market shaping strategies, customer engagement strategies, and technology leadership strategies. The population in this study found 225 people from 1 Gapoktan and 9 farmer groups in Kuantan Tengah District. The research sample was 15% of the population, namely 34 people who were selected by random sampling method. Data analysis used descriptive analysis and multiple linear regression models. The results of the analysis show that the respondent's level of achievement reaches 80,82% for market strategy and 74,22% for marketing performance, both of which are in the good level category. The value of sig.t for X1 is 0.861, the value of sig.t for X2 is 0,342, the value of sig.t for X3 is 0,585 is greater than the significance level (α), then the formation of market strategy, customer involvement, and technology leadership partially have no significant effect. significant to marketing performance. The sig.F value of 0,728 is higher than the significance level (α), so the formation of market strategy, customer involvement, and technology leadership simultaneously do not have a significant effect on marketing performance.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the structure of the Lemuru fish market that was formed in Muncar District, Banyuwangi Regency. There are two groups of respondents, fishermen (61 people) and marketing agencies (25 people). The sampling method used random sampling and slovin calculations to determine the number of fishermen respondents, the sample of marketing institutions used the snowball sampling method. To determine the market structure, the analysis used is the identification of the number of marketing institutions, market concentration using market share and CR4, product differentiation, and barriers to market entry. The results show that there are two marketing channels. Marketing channel one consists of 50 fishermen, five collectors, and seven retailers. Channel two consists of 11 fishermen and 13 retailers. From the analysis of market concentration using market share and CR4 at the fisherman and retailer level, a perfect competition market and a monopoly competition market at the collector level are formed. There is no product differentiation made by fishermen, collectors, and retailers. The barriers to entry and exit from the market faced by fishermen are natural and non-natural barriers, while collectors and retailers face non-natural barriers.

Abstract

Red chilli (Capsicum annumm L.) is a commodity with high price fluctuations. Market participants use red chilli price fluctuations to manipulate price information and cause information asymmetry. So that, the price information is not transmitted properly and indicates the market is not integrated. This study aims to describe price developments and analyze the integration of the red chilli market in Malang Regency, Malang City, and Surabaya City. The analytical method used is descriptive statistics, Johansen cointegration, and Vector Error Correction Model (VECM). The results showed that the price of red chilli fluctuated. Red chilli price fluctuations occur because production is seasonal, causing the distribution of chillies to be uneven every month. Therefore, efforts are needed to regulate cropping patterns so that the supply of chilli is always available. The results of market integration show that all variables are cointegrated in the long run and not integrated into the short run. This indicates that price information is transmitted imperfectly. Therefore, it is necessary to improve the information system so that all market participants can access market information.

Abstract

This study aims to predict the factors that drive the emergence of intentions to reduce food waste with a planned behavior theory approach. The study was carried out in Malang, East Java. The information was gathered through social media using a survey method with convenience sampling. The study employs fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis (FsQCA).The research findings indicate four conditions in the subjective norm, perceived behavioral control, and feeling of guilt variables which are the core conditions needed to form an intention to reduce food waste. In addition, three of the four states were closely related to the general perception of caring and showed a tendency towards interpersonal and human-environmental awareness. Therefore, the recommended recommendation is a campaign movement that emphasizes community participation by adopting ideal food-management values that are simultaneous and supported by stimulation through public communication related to the minimization of food waste.

Abstract

A review of the literature reveals that most previous studies only used achievement motivation theory to assess the work motivation of agricultural extension workers in Indonesia. So far, no research questionnaire has been designed using expectancy theory. The purpose of this study is to develop a work motivation questionnaire based on expectancy theory and to test the convergent validity, discriminant validity, construct reliability and composite reliability of this questionnaire. This study drew on data from 107 people who work as agricultural extension workers in Indonesia. The questionnaire distributed via google forms was completed by all respondents. All statistical analyses were performed using JASP, version 0.16, and a confirmatory factor analysis technique was used. This study resulted in the development of a work motivation questionnaire in Indonesian. There are nine-item questions, each with three questions for construct expectancy, three questions for constructs instrumentality, and three questions for constructs valence. Confirmatory factor analysis confirmed that all of the question items from the expectancy theory three constructs met the convergent validity, discriminant validity, construct reliability, and composite reliability criteria. This questionnaire can be used in future research on agricultural extension workers' work motivation in Indonesia.
