Abstract

Local wisdom possessed by the East Java is a form of culture that represents the identity of the Jawatimuran that does not shared by other regions, but the social dynamics and development of information technology make the knowledge of local wisdom faded and forgotten, so that the next generation remains to know, love and proud in the culture of their own country, then that knowledge must be preserved. The Library and Archives of East Java has organized several workshops. Those workshops are a form of knowledge sharing as an effort to preserve local wisdom of Jawatimuran through writing. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the workshops conducted by The Library and Archives of East Java. The methodology used in this study is a qualitative descriptive method. The results of this study show that knowledge sharing can improve the productivity of the authors and creates integration between authors, publishers and The Library and Archives of East Java in an effort to preserve local wisdom in East Java. The conclusion is that The Library and Archives of East Java should be a bridge for the writers to continue to produce writings based on the local wisdom.

Abstract

Library as one of the public services attempts to give the users satisfaction, especially in providing the documents and information. Users’ satisfaction is highly dependent on the quality of a product. Library product is the collection and service provided. The study aims to find out the users’ satisfaction toward the collection and the services of UPT of Library Center of IAIN Antasari Banjarmasin. The method used in the study was descriptive with quantitative approach. The sampling used Taro Yamane theory with the precision degree of 10. There were 99 respondents consist of 95 students, 4 lectures and staffs, and 1 person outside university. The result showed that the library users’ satisfaction on the completeness of collection in the central library of IAIN Antasari is in quite satisfied category since the average score is 3.22 which is on the interval scale of 2.62-3.42. Users’ satisfaction on the current collection is 3.25. Therefore, it can be concluded that the users’ satisfaction on the current collection is on the interval scale of 2.62-3.42 which is in the scale of quite satisfied. Library users’ satisfaction on the librarian service is quite satisfied since the average score of the respondent satisfaction is 3.43 which is in the interval scale of 3.43-4.23. The average score of users’ satisfaction on the service facility of the library is 3.53, so it can be concluded that the library users’ satisfaction on the service facility in the central library of IAIN Antasari is on the interval scale of 3.43-4.23 which is quite satisfied. The total average score of library users’ satisfaction on the collection and service in the central library of IAIN Antasari is 3.42 which is in the quite satisfied category.

Abstract

Library management using manual system is no longer adequate to handle the workload in the library routines, librarians must use application of library automation. To provide a good working performance, librarians use strategy, competences and certain habits, which are referred to as a ritual performance. The performance of the ritual is the demonstration of competence spontaneously by individuals in dealing with individuals, groups and organizations, which contains elements of personal ritual, the work ritual, social ritual, and organization ritual. The research focuses in the automation based library management in the context of the performance of the ritual. This study used a qualitative approach with case study method. The findings suggest that the personal ritual shows the personal habits of librarians to do their tasks, ritual librarians work show responsibility towards their duties, social rituals strengthen the emotional connection between librarians and leaders, as well as ritual organizations suggest the involvement of librarians in giving their contribution in decision making. Conclusions of this study shows that the performance of rituals librarian at Depok Public Library gives librarians the skills to implement automation systems in the library management, and reflect the values of responsibility, mutual trust, and mutual respect.

Abstract

Changes are rapidly occur in this world, especially developments in the field of information and communication technology. Man must be able to adjust quickly to keep up. Developments in information and communication technology has made it easier for people in work. Utilization of information and communication technology are expected to make work performed by humans is more effective and efficient. National Library of Indonesia mandated by Law No. 43 of 2007 as an adviser to all types of libraries throughout Indonesia. In carrying out the task, the National Library should coordinate with local government including the provincial government, represented by the provincial library which can be said to represent the provincial government in the affairs of the library. National Library of Indonesia in coordination with the provincial library has been facilitated by information and communication technology such as telephone, fax and internet. In addition, coordination can also be done through conventional correspondency or direct face to face. This study tried to define which communication system that is commonly used by the National Library of Indonesia when coordinating with the provincial library and the reasons that lie behind them. The method used in this research is descriptive with a participatory approach, the researchers and respondents are equal and shared a mutual cooperation. This research indicates that face-to-face coordination is more preferred, because face-to-face coordination offers a social and economical benefit. Abstract

Indonesia is an island country which is rich of cultural treasure. These cultural treasure are including moral value, Knowledge and technology that is used by hereditary from local tradition. Most of these hereditary habits are done by oral tradition, so it less of documentations. Library as information center and has function to serve information, willy nilly, librarian has responsibility to preserve the knowledge of traditional culture as intellectual property. Besides of that, the documentation activity will become cultural defense of indonesia so, it can be used by the next generation for learning activity. View the significant of cultural documentation activity, in this paper want to discussion about role of librarian in traditional knowledge. This type of research is study literature research. We will use a variety of literature that discusses traditional knowledge. Then do the assessment  about of the role of librarians to traditional knowledge

Abstract

High school students have known as Gen Y or Z and their media using can be understand on their information-seeking behavior. This research’s purposes were: 1) to analyze the students’ motivation; 2) to analyze the critical thinking and academic verification; 3) to analyze the information-seeking behavior. This study used quantitative approach through survey among 1125 respondents in nine clusters, i.e. Central, East, North, West, and South of Jakarta, Tangerang, Bekasi, Depok, and Bogor. Schools sampling based on "the best schools rank" by the government, while respondents have taken by accidental in each school. Construct of questionnaire included measurement of motivation, critical thinking and academic verification, and the information-seeking behavior at all. The results showed that the motivations of the use of Internet were dominated by habit to interact and be entertained while on the academic needs are still relatively small but increasing significantly. Students’ self-efficacy, performance and achievement goals tend to be high motives, however the science learning value, and learning environment stimulation were average low motives. High school students indicated that they think critically about the various things that become content primarily in social media but less critical of the academic information subjects. Unfortunately, high school students did not conducted academic verification on the data and information but students tend to do plagiarism.

Abstract

Record creation and management by individuals or organizations grows rapidly, particularly the change from print to electronics, and the smallest part of record (metadata). Therefore, there is a need to perform record management metadata, particularly for students who have the needs of recording references and citation. Reference management software (RMS) is a software to help reference management, one of them named zotero. The purpose of this article is to describe the benefits of record management for the writing of scientific papers for students, especially on biology study program in UIN Malik Ibrahim Malang. The type of research used is descriptive with quantitative approach. To increase the depth of respondents answers, we used additional data by conducting interviews. The selected population is 322 students, class of 2012 to 2014, using random sampling. The selection criteria were chosen because the introduction and use of reference management software, zotero have started since three years ago.  Respondents in this study as many as 80 people, which is obtained from the formula Yamane. The results showed that 70% agreed that using reference management software saved time and energy in managing digital file metadata, 71% agreed that if digital metadata can be quickly stored into RMS, 65% agreed on the ease of storing metadata into the reference management software, 70% agreed when it was easy to configure metadata to quote and bibliography, 56.6% agreed that the metadata stored in reference management software could be edited, 73.8% agreed that using metadata will make it easier to write quotes and bibliography.

Abstract

Many works - works the academic community that has not been published so that the intellectual property of an educational institution is not widely known by the general public. Institutional repository created and used to manage the results of these works that can be accessed by all people. This study aimed to describe the institutional repository of high perguruang country in Java Timursebagai container to the intellectual academic community views of content, the software used unit that houses, and ratings on Webometrik. This study uses a quantitative approach with descriptive methods. The population used in this study are all the institutional repository of public universities in East Java, which already are online. The sampling technique is the total sampling. The results of this study found that 50% of state universities in East Java has an IR that can be accessed via the internet, 100% of existing IR content is scientific output, the software used various existing GDL, DSpace, Eprints and others, and IR state universities in Java East 66.7% was ranked in webometrik

Abstract

This study aims to describe the development of reference services at the Library of Universitas Indonesia. The research discussed about innovation in the development of new activities in the reference services. Analyzing reference services from librarians’ point of view concerning the new activities in reference services, including attitudes and policies toward activities. This research takes a descriptive qualitative approach and uses semiotic analysis refering to Semiology of Roland Bathes concerning significance from two stage,  denotation and connotation, for analyzing the result of interviews. The results showed that the Universitas Indonesia Library reference service provides some new activities. Librarians become more active, revealed to be closer  to users, and transformation of information technology is seen as one of the competitive need to accompany the development of knowledge. Transfer media eventually have implications not on technology but rather to communication of reference services in the Universitas Indonesia Library.

Abstract

Garut is one district in West Java province which has the potential of cultural heritage which is very interesting. One of the cultural heritage in Garut which is be the site of ancient manuscripts (manuscripts). Relating to the existence of ancient manuscripts in Garut regency of the many ancient texts only a small portion that has been recorded and stored in the museum, while most have not been registered again and was saved by members of the public. To keep this heritage alive and useful for future generations hence the need for awareness of all members of society and this is one of the efforts in building knowledge management. The main purpose of knowledge management is to encourage sustainability knowledge within an organization or society, so expected that knowledge will not stop the people who have the knowledge, but can be accessed and studied by others who need them. In this research method used is the method mix (mix method) with pengum-gathering techniques of data in the form of questionnaires, interviews, observation and through the study of literature. The results showed that of most members of the community that holds the codex in preserving ancient manuscripts which are still done simply by storing in a clean and dry at certain times to clean dust and dirt on the manuscript. Regarding the awareness of community members who have an ancient manuscript codex to report ownership to the government in general remains low, This is because of concerns that they have ancient manuscripts must be submitted to the government.
