Abstract

Judaism as a nation and as a religious community are two different but interrelated things. In the Jewish Diaspora, some Jews entered Indonesia along with the entry of Dutch and Portuguese colonialism. Due to different conditions from those with established institutions in other countries, Jews in Indonesia, especially in Jakarta and Depok carry out their religious traditions differently because they adapt to the environment in which they live, where the majority are Muslims. Thus, the tradition carried out by them is local and adapts carefully to the environment. This research using descriptive qualitative method shows that negotiation is a way of surviving for the Jews in the Depok area. The celebration of Purim as a reminder of the survivors of persecution from the Persians, and Sukkot as a reminder of the temporary residence of the Jews, were also carried out under conditions that also adjusted, so a strategy was needed. In addition to the results of the research above, adjustments were also made using local materials to keep them in accordance with their religious laws but obtained in the area where they live.

Abstract

This qualitative research aims to reveal how Balinese female dancers have existed by dancing in each era depicted in three novels namely Ni Rawit Ceti Penjual Orang (1935) by A.A. Pandji Tisna, (2) Tarian Bumi (2000) by Oka Rusmini, and (3) Jejak Dedari (2016) by Erwin Arnada. Structural-narrative theory by A.J. Greimas and Simone de Beauvoir's existentialist feminism approach was used to dissect the three novels. From the analysis, some differences describe the characteristics of Balinese female dancers in each era. In the novel Ni Rawit Ceti Penjual Orang as a marker of the postcolonial era, female dancers have not been able to reach their existence because of tradition dominated by men. In contrast, in Tarian Bumi and Jejak Dedari as a remark of the 2000s, Balinese female dancers can achieve their existence with the help and motivation of the surrounding community of figures. Thus, it shows the progress in the way of Balinese society towards the existence of Balinese female dancers from time to time.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract: Jean Baudrillard is one among many prominent thinkers of postmodernism. One among many his notable idea is the Hyperreal In his book Simulacra and Simulation, Baudrillard's proposes the idea of something that transcend beyond the state of fake and reality, the Hyperreal. This concept can be found as a theme in lyrics of a song titled Idol by Yoasobi. This paper try to dissect the lyrics and finding the implication of Baudrillard's concept of Hyperreal within the implicit and explicit meanings of the lyrics. Idol is a certain profession that has gain significant rise in the 21th century. The common perception is that they are selling ‘fake identities' to their audience. Nevertheless, the truth is more complicated than it is as with using Baudrillard's theoretical framework of the Hyperreal, idol has cross the boundary between falsehood and authenticity and become ‘real' in their own sense. Abstract

Culturepreneurship is a growing subject in Indonesia and in many parts of the world. It is a multi- and trans-disciplinary studies that combines tenets of entrepreneurship and cultural analysis. However, the connexion between these two disciplines are often to be not in complementary. The logic of entrepreneurship still dominates and leaves the cultural aspect of the discipline to be in the periphery. This article attempts to argue the importance of the cultural turn within culturepreneurship by incorporating Cultural Studies into the discussion. Specifically, since it is an initial stage of such effort, this article looks into Raymond Williams' seminal contribution to Cultural Studies. His pioneering ideas on cultural materialism are the footing of later development of Cultural Studies. Other than theoretical discussions on Williams, the latter part of this article explores a case study of the 2022 Surabaya Great Expo to briefly manifest the attempt to do cultural turn in culturepreneurship.

Abstract

This study discusses the negative response of the people of Russia and Moscow to the song Moskva by Timati, the song with the most dislikes in Russia on the video provider site, Youtube. The writer analyzes the data by using Reception theory by Stuart Hall in analyzing people's response, and propaganda theory by Jowett and O'Donnell in finding the causes of protests over this song. The method used in this research is descriptive analysis, literature study, and interview techniques to obtain the required response data. The results of this study are that the many protests over this song are caused by propaganda elements contained in the song lyrics. The lyrics contains lines and verses, viewed from the lens of propaganda, that are heavily political and leans towards a biased belief of one political spectrum. Other than lyrical aspects, the visualization of the song through its music video also contains propagandistic trait. This is manifested through the abundance of skyscrapers in Moscow shown in the music video which signify the urbanized part of the city, leaving the undesired part enclosed. The combination of the song's internality and responses results in a comprehensive outlook for the song.
