ARBITRER Jurnal Masyarakat Linguistik Indonesia, merupakan jurnal ilmiah yang menyajikan artikel orisinil tentang pengetahuan dan informasi penelitian atau aplikasi penelitian dan pengembangan terkini dalam bidang ilmu bahasa (linguistik). Jurnal ini merupakan sarana publikasi dan ajang berbagi informasi keilmuan terkait dan pengembangannya di bidang humaniora khususnya linguistic, yang diterbitkan oleh program studi Linguistik Unand. Pemuatan artikel di jurnal ini dialamatkan ke alamat editor. Informasi lengkap untuk pemuatan artikel dan petunjuk penulisan artikel tersedia di dalam setiap terbitan. Artikel yang diterbitkan telah melalui proses seleksi oleh editior dan reviewer. Jurnal ini terbit secara berkala sebanyak dua kali dalam setahun (April dan Oktober). Artikel yang lolos seleksi akan dipungut biaya guna keberlanjutan jurnal, sedangkan pengiriman naskah tidak dipungut biaya. Diharapkan ARBITRER Jurnal Masyarakat Linguistik Indonesia cabang Universitas Andalas dengan tampilan baru ini akan terbit berkelanjutan dan terakreditasi.

Abstract

The article aims to examine the similarities and differences between Minangkabau languages in the origin regions 50 Kota and Pasaman West Sumatra compared to rantau areas Kampar and Rokan Hulu Riau. The study is done by dialectology approach which focuses on affixes. The data are collected by using conversational observation method along with the interview and record techniques. The data are analyzed by using identity method along with immediate constituent analysis and advanced techniques, comparative and contrastive techniques. The result shows there similarities and differences of Minangkabau affixes between both areas.

Abstract

The research was intended to describe types of speech acts performed by English lecturers in learning process at STKIP YDB Lubuk Alung. This research was descriptive qualitative. The data of this research were the English utterances performed by English lecturers. The researcher obtained the data by means of note-taking technique. First, the researcher recorded the English teaching in the class using a video camera. Next, the researcher made transcripts of the dialogues. Then, the transcribed dialogues were recorded into the data sheet. Finally the data were classified according to Searle's classification of speech acts. In the data analysis the researcher applied interactive qualitative method and applied coding system. The research findings show that there were four types of speech acts performed by the English lecturers, namely representatives, directives, expressive and commissives, whereas declarations were not utilized by the English lecturer. The most frequently used illocutionary acts were directives (53%), while the least frequent illocutionary acts went to commissives (5%). The frequent use of directives indicates that the lecturer seemed to be aware of their status as a lecturer which was believed to be more powerful than her students. In such restricted context like classroom setting, it is common that the lecturer status is higher than her students since the relation between them is inherently asymmetrical. It was through directives the lecturers exerted her power over the students.

This thesis applied case study descriptive qualitative research in which the data are obtained speech of Attention Defisit Disorder patient are receptive disorder and ekspresive (productive) disorder. The data are collected by observational and conversational method supported by participant observational, interviewing, recording, and note taking techniques. Data analysis method, it was used referential and phonetic articulator method. The results of analysis are presented by formal and informal method. After analyzing the data, it is found that language disorder at case Ichsan, there are three receptive disorder, they are sensoris perception, visual and auditoris. The form ekspresive (productive) disorder is phonetically, vowels and diphthongs do not have any disorders, meanwhile consonants are the most of consisting disorder in form of phone replacement and omission. Furthermore, phones additional and phone irrigularity do not occur in Ichsan speech. Language disorder at case Ichsan is caused by heredity factor, disorder speech articulatory, mental retadration, disorder brain, aphasia, receptive, celebral palsy, deprivasi psychosocial, lonely environment, economy social factor, and the habit of incompletely chewed food.

Abstract

This work investigates the effects of Yoruba-English Code-mixing on the Yoruba language. From a sociolinguistic perspective, it examines the reasons why people code-mix English with Yoruba and the effects of the code-mixing on the Yoruba language. The study is modeled after Crystal's (2000) theory of language death. Data for the study was collected with the use of self-designed questionnaire which was administered to 100 respondents. The analysis of the responses shows that a number of lexical items of the Yoruba language have been lost by the native speakers as a result Yoruba-English code-mixing. It also reveals that this sociolinguistic phenomenon may hamper the growth and development of the Yoruba language as it has become more convenient for Yoruba speakers to code-mix than to coin new words for new concepts, items or ideas. The study, therefore, concludes that uncontrolled Yoruba-English code-mixing may render the use of the Yoruba language moribund, consequently leading to the death of the language. It is recommended that the native speakers of Yoruba should make conscious efforts to use "pure" Yoruba, minimizing the use of code-mix.

Abstract

Nomina merupakan salah satu jenis kata yang biasanya dapat berfungsi sebagai subyek atau obyek dari klausa, sering berpadanan dengan orang, benda atau hal lain yang dibendakan dalam alam di luar bahasa. Sebagai salah satu bahasa yang masuk dalam rumpun bahasa Indo-Eropa, bahasa Prancis mempunyai kaidah nomina yang khas. Makalah ini akan membahas mengenai bagaimana sistem nomina bahasa Prancis secara umum, bagaimana bentuk penanda gender (maskula-femina) dalam nomina bahasa Prancis, bagaimana bentuk penanda jumlah (tunggal-jamak) dalam nomina bahasa Prancis, dan bagaimana penggunaan artikel pendamping nomina bahasa Prancis. Makalah ini ditujukan untuk mengungkapkan bentuk nomina bahasa Prancis secara umum, bentuk penanda gender (maskula-femina) nomina bahasa Prancis, bentuk penanda jumlah (tunggal-jamak) nomina bahasa Prancis, serta penggunaan artikel pendamping nomina bahasa Prancis. Dengan adanya makalah ini diharapkan dapat membantu para pembaca untuk lebih mengenal karakteristik bahasa Indo-Eropa secara umum. Dengan adanya makalah ini, para pembaca juga diharapan dapat memahami mengenai bentuk nomina bahasa Prancis secara umum, bentuk penanda gender (maskula-femina) nomina bahasa Prancis, bentuk penanda jumlah (tunggal-jamak) nomina bahasa Prancis, serta penggunaan artikel pendamping nomina bahasa Prancis. Selain itu, dengan adanya makalah ini juga diharapkan dapat membantu para pembelajar agar lebih mudah dalam mempelajari bahasa Prancis. Dari pengamatan yang telah dilakukan, terdapat beberapa penanda gender (maskula-femina) serta penanda jumlah (tunggal-jamak) pada nomina bahasa Prancis. Dalam bahasa Prancis juga terdapat beberapa artikel pendamping nomina, yaitu artikel indefini, artikel defini dan artikel partitif.

Abstract

This thesis discusses strategies off the record that describes implicatures modesty in a conversation. Off record strategy is one of the five strategies. This strategy is discussed for the use of the language used in the forms of direct. The object of research is strategies off the record that describes implicatures politeness in a famous talk show in America, namely, "Oprah Winfrey Show". The data were taken using methods refer to refer techniques involved free conversation, where the author was not involved in the dialogue that occurs because the data is taken from the TV show, recording technique with the aid of a recorded tape. Furthermore, the authors use the technique CAAT by way of transcribing talk show back in the form transcription orthographic. This analysis uses methods equivalent pragmatic look at the role of external factors of language, especially the factor of interlocutors on selection strategies used off record. The results showed that the context of the situation and the violations of the maxim of conversation will influence the choice of strategies used off record. However, there are some cases when this option do not follow the rules. This is because of other factors that come into play in a conversation such as an intonation. implicatures appear generally in the form of affirmation that is used in polite. Abstract

The research aims at finding the cultural elements in Laura Ingalls Wilder’s Little House in the Big Woods. This is a descriptive qualitative research. Data source of this research is Laura Ingalls Wilder's Little House in the Big Woods. The data of this research are words, phrases, clauses, sentences and conversation with cultural elements found on the data source. Technique for collecting data is documeniation. The data is classified based on the elements of culture. Technique of data analysis consists of data reduction, data display, and data verification. Theory triangulation is used for data validation. The results of the study show that the cultural elements found in Laura Ingalls Wilder’s Little House in the Big Woods are (1) those dealing with the geographical situation such as animals, plants, and season (2) those relating to the tradition such as eating tradition (meal time, food and beverage, and way of cooking), cloth tradition such as types of clothes, medical tradition, hunting tradition, needle work, sugar snow tradition (3) those dealing with religion and folklore (4) those relating to social values such as speaking manner, eating manner, and meeting people manner.

Abstract

Penggunaan internet di kalangan remaja berpengaruh terhadap bahasa dan budayanya. Dia menggunakan internet untuk berbagai ranah kehidupan. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode simak. Pengambilan data dilakukan dengan penyimakan data bahasa yang dituturkan oleh remaja dan disesuaikan dengan data yang ditampilkan oleh internet. Hasilnya, yaitu banyaknya kosakata di bidang komputer dalam bahasa Inggris yang masuk ke dalam bahasa Indonesia, baik dalam bentuk pemungutan, penyesuaian atau adaptasi, dan pengambilan secara lansung atau adopsi. Bahkan, remaja ini lebih kenal istilah dalam bahasa Inggris daripada bahasa Indonesia karena istilah dalam bidang komputer dan internet yang mereka gunakan masih dalam bahasa Inggris. Melalui internet, juga terbangun kemampuan berbahasa Indonesia dengan baik karena meningkatnya budaya menulis atau mengetik, membaca, bercerita, dan mengekspos diri. Dengan adanya peningkatan budaya tadi, lahirlah bahasa-bahasa gaul di kalangan netizen atau remaja. Keberadaan internet ini juga membangun budaya, baik positif maupun negatif. Budaya positifnya adalah menulis atau mengetik, membaca, mencari informasi dengan secara cepat, belajar secara online, berkirim surat secara online, tes online, adanya situs pemerintahan secara online, berbelanja online, toko online, budaya pertemanan, mengekspos diri, dan sebagainya. Kemudian, ada juga budaya negatif, seperti budaya kriminal, menimbulkan kecanduan ketika bermain game, membuka video porno, membuka facebook orang, mengurangi produktivitas, merusak otak, sulit tidur, kurangnya berinteraksi dengan lingkungan, dan sebagainya.

Abstract

This study is entitled Negation in Indonesia and English. Traditionally, people differentiate positive and negative sentences by identifying "not" in Bahasa and "tidak" as negation markers in English. These negation markers can be presented with words, phrases and clauses that form negation sentences in Bahasa Indonesia and English.  This paper tries to describe and compare the other negation markers in these both languages. The data are written and unwritten from that taken from daily conversation.

Abstract

Dictionary is one of the important media in learning English. Along with the rapid development of mobile technology at this time, the various applications for mobile is widely developed as a medium of learning, one of them is the application of Android-based dictionary. Dictionaries on mobile devices are more practical than conventional dictionaries, as users can receive information quickly anywhere without space and time constraints. Related to this, the research aims to create a dictionary application of English-Indonesian graphics techniques capable of running on android-based phones. This application is built to help and meet the needs of students majoring in graphic technique in searching for meaning and understand various English words related to science of graphics. The collection of words and phrases (word entries) related to the science of graphic technique is done through literature studies of books, internet and other relevant sources. In addition, the collection of words and phrases is also done by conducting in-depth interviews with lecturers or graphic technique experts. The programming languages used in making this language dictionary application use Java 2 Micro Edition (J2ME) and SQLite. The dictionary after being validated of 4.14 with good category) and tested received positive response from the students indicated with very positive questionnaire results.
