The criteria of the submitted article covers the following types of article: first, the article presents the results of an ethnographic/qualitative research in certain topic and is related with ethnic/social groups in Indonesia; second, the article is an elaborated discussion of applied and collaborative research with strong engagement between the author and the collaborator’s subject in implementing intervention program or any other development initiative that put emphasizes on social, political, and cultural issues; last, a theoretical writing that elaborates social and cultural theory linked with the theoretical discourse of anthropology, especially in Indonesia.

Abstract

This research aimed to analyze the existence of a ritual besale typical movement, movement in the besale ritual process is berentak. Berentak motion is a movement running straight forward, backward, around and jumping, the movement continues to be done by Malin Pengasu (shaman) during the process of ritual besale. Besale is from of a magical traditional ceremony, which lives in remote indigenous communities of Suku Batin Sembilan, precisely in Jambi Province forest area. Besale (berasale) means the origin of man, ritual besale involves Malin Pengasu (shaman) and Sidi (good spirits who treat the sick through shaman), to cleanse and cast out the evil spirits that are considered as the source of the disease. Malin Pengasu (shaman) is a person who set all forms of preparation of beterkas up to the ritual besale. The research using the method of qualitative approach text and the context of according Y. Sumandiyo Hadi, which analyze and review the form, techniques, and style the choreography, and analyze the context of based social culture community. The results of research show about how the process of choreography and the emergence of distinctive motion in ritual besale, which in principle socio-cultural society that has been behind the presence of form, technique and style of motion.

Abstract

This paper discuss on addict of the power, namely people who experienced an addict to the power both legislative and executive arena.  This study try to find answers what kinds of social construction and how to interpret on the power due to people experienced an addict to the power as well as to construct typology of addict of the power. Abstract

All societies experience the change. But also with the society that is in the village of Rawa Mekar Jaya, Subdistrict of Sungai Apit, Regency of Siak. Here, there is unique tradition that is called menumbai interrelated the use of sialang’s honey bee. Together with the age development, this tradition starts to have dynamics. So that the questions come 1) What kind of aspects that experience the cultural social change in the processing activity of sialang’s honey bee in the village of Rawa Mekar Jaya Then, what kind of factors that push that change?. The research method that is used is descriptive qualitative. The location election in the village of Rawa Mekar Jaya because this location has sialang’s tree and the activity that is involved with the sialang’s honey. The research subject consists of the village chief, society figure, owner of sialang trunk and sialang’s trunk climber. The Data Collecting Technics are such as observation and deep interview. The sampling technic is namly purposive sampling. Based on the research result, it can be known that the aspects that experience the change in the processing activity of sialang’s honey is aspect of language, knowledge, tools and life equipment, economy system and religion system. Meanwhile, the factors that push the change is the contact with another culture, unsatisfication of society towards certain life sectors, future orientation and value that the human should struggle to fix the life.

Abstract

Commodification practice always deals with 3 parties, which our society, government, and private institution. Considered as cultural preservation, Tebing Breksi becomes an object of commodification in Sambirejo Prambanan since 2014. Its commodification arises several conflicts among its stakeholders due to each stakeholder has their own importance and interest. Compared to other commodification practices, bottom-up tourism management is applied that making the commodification of Tebing Breksi differs to others. This research is remarkable dealing with its findings that differenciate the commodification practice between society and government or private institution. This research aims to find the implication of commodification for tourism field using bottom-up tourism management. Whereas, the main purpose of this research is to describe the negotiation between stakeholders of commodification in Tebing Breksi. The method of this research is ethnography by applying in-depth reporting. The findings of this research prove that negotiation between stakeholders of commodification is the impact of a different way of thinking as well as the group’s interest in each stakeholder. Nevertheless, the changes happen among society in Tebing Breksi confirmed Tebing Breksi as an alternative tourism attraction in Prambanan.

Abstract

At the time of the earthquake affecting substantial losses due to the damage they cause, usually very high expectations of the people to the government for rehabilitation and reconstruction (rehabilitation and reconstruction) of homes affected. Therefore readiness to undertake the rehabilitation of earthquake remains an important concern by the parties in the response to natural disasters, both government and society.  This study is a qualitative study to describe the experience of the parties in order to direct the rehabilitation of houses affected by the earthquake of 2007 in Tanah Datar, West Sumatra province. The results of this study found the application of the principles of transparency, participation and accountability in the interrelation between the government and society in the process of preparation and implementation of the rehabilitation of earthquake-affected neighborhoods. Open governance practices have proven quite successful even minimize complaints and public protests or other social conflict that impacts are not uncommon in post-disaster management in the region. Experiences of good practice organizing the rehabilitation of houses affected by the earthquake in Tanah Datar this would even be used as a pilot, and learning resources of many parties in implementing the governance of disaster management in the various regions

Abstract

Artikel ini membahas pola perubahan afiliasi pada sistem kekerabatan masyarakat Lematang di Sumatera Selatan. Perubahan struktur atau pola afiliasi dari patrilinial ke matrilinial  karena dipengaruhi oleh tradisi/praktik perkawinan kampi. Perubahan afiliasi itu sendiri meliputi: sistem garis keturunan, pola residensi, harta waris, relasi kuasa termasuk di dalamnya posisi dan peran serta hak dan kewajiban dari masing-masing anggota keluarga.

Abstract

The voter data update shows that there were still data on the TMS voters when the DPS determined in Padang Panjang City at 4,307 or 10.96% of the voters. This research was carried out with the descriptive qualitative method through in-depth interviews with various informants, namely election organizers in Padang Panjang City and Disdukcapil and campaign teams. The results of this study show that the problem of the voter list is due to PPDP Performance Culture in the voter data updating process which is seen from 6 aspects, namely (1) the responsiveness of PPDP can understand the needs of voters and not constrained population administration factors, (2) professionalism, work according to rules and has a high competence and understanding of territories, (3) productivity, can reduce voters who do not meet the requirements significantly and nil double voters in DPS (4) accountability, PPDP is ready to answer internally the process and results of updating voter data to the KPU and externally in the level of results, (5) cooperation, PPDP has collaborated with internal KPU and external KPU in voter data summary and (6) quality of service, PPDP and KPU along with their staff conduct socialization to the public for the categories of voters eligible and not eligible in the list voters. Voters registered in the voter list are de facto and de jure voters to be one solution to fulfill the comprehensive, accurate and up-to-date principles in voter data collection

Abstract

Poverty is one of the social problems that the government can never completely solve. As a result, other, more significant social issues arise and cause social vulnerability, such as conflict and crime. As a province that is experiencing rapid growth in the last ten years, the West Sumatra find difficulty to overcome the number of poor people in several districts and cities.  The research outcomes are the models and forms of social policy made by West Sumatra regencies and cities governments in improving the welfare of poor communities. It is also covering the constraints or obstacles to the implementation of social policy and the selection of welfare state models for the poor in some districts and municipalities of West Sumatra. This research is conducted qualitatively with a sociological approach that uses social perspective on searching and explaining social facts that happened to needy groups. Based on research conducted that the social policy model adopted by the government in responding to social problems in the districts and cities of West Sumatra reflects the welfare state model given to the poor. There is a strong relationship between the welfare state model and the form of social policy made by the government.
