Abstract

This research aimed to identify factors threatening the population and migration of leatherback turtles, analyze community perceptions (stakeholders) from ecological, economic, cultural, legal and institutional aspects, formulate policy strategy of management and development of leatherback turtle conservation area on the Wermon Coast of Tambraw Regency. Data collection techniques used were literature study and field studies through interviews, observation and documentation. Sampling was conducted by purposive sampling method with the number of respondents of 50 persons. The results showed that several factors that threatened the population and migration of leatherback turtles were sand temperature and temperature variations, sea level rise, beach slope, and sand texture. Community perception of ecological aspects showed 80% positive habits, economic aspect increased local people's income, cultural aspect showed 90% of respondents accept, legal and institutional perceptions showed 94% of people support spatial planning policies and 86% social institutions support the development of conservation areas. Several SWOT analysis strategies for developing leatherback turtle conservation area, namely provide training for management of leatherback turtle conservation, create a community-based turtle conservation management manuals, improve facilities and infrastructure, increase monitoring of coral reef resources, implements strict control of pollution materials that can disrupt the living conditions of leatherback turtles, increase public understanding of conservation areas and promote the role of the leatherback turtle in the community. Keywords: Conservation area, leatherback turtle, SWOT analysis.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the potential diversity of the coral reef and coral reef fish ecosystems of Kodingareng Keke Island and the development strategies and priorities of Kodingareng Keke Island as a marine tourism destination. This research used purposive sampling with 50 respondents, coral data collection method used was Line Intercept Transect (LIT) with transect line length of 50 meters and depth of 5 meters, method used to obtain coral reef fish data was Underwater Visual Census (UVC). The result of analysis showed that the average coral ranged from 63,6% to 77,8% and the average abundance of fish at 3 observation stations, namely station I (17,65%), station II (14,78%) and station III (18,67%), thus it can be conculded that this location is feasible for snorkeling and diving tourism. The priority programs for the development of the marine tourism area of Kodingareng Keke Island include increasing supervision, creating periodical Object Development Master Plans (RIPO), implementing local regulations on the use of coastal resources, involving local communities, the general public and the government in nature conservation activities, setting labor standards, and improving the quality of local human resources through training. Keywords: Coral reef, Coral reef fish, Tourism.

Abstract

Preservation and processing of meat into beef jerky can extend storage life, but it is still determined by the packaging method. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of packaging method on the level of change in the chemical quality of ground beef jerky. This research was conducted at the Laboratory of Animal Product Technology, Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Fishery, as well as the Agroindustry Laboratory of the Faculty of Agriculture, Tadulako University from 4 October 2018 to 12 January 2019. The research designed by applying a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 5 treatments and 3 replications, with treatments D0 = jerky without packaging, D1= jerky completely packed up, D2= jerky + Aluminum foil zipper with air cavity ± 0.0019 within 1 cm, D3= D0 + Aluminum foil zipper with air cavity ± 0.0038 within 1 cm, D4= D0 + Aluminum foil zipper with air cavity ± 0.0057 within 1 cm. The observed parameters were content of protein, fat and water. The results showed that ground beef jerky with different packaging treatments, had no significant effect (P> 0.01) on protein content (D0= 37.20; D1= 38.17; D2= 38.37; D3= 38.21; D4= 28.37%) and the fat content of ground beef jerky (D0= 6.52 ±; D1= 6.65; D2= 6.67; D3= 6.67; D4= 6.77%), but have significant effect (P <0.05) of jerky water content (D0= 22.08; D1= 25.28; D2= 24.60; D3= 23.50; D4= 22.12). The Duncan's test of the water content significantly affected, after storage for 3 months. Water content is an important component in jerky, because it also determines freshness and durability. It also affects the appearance, texture and taste of food. Therefore, the method of packaging using aluminum foil zipper with an air cavity of ± 0.0038 1 cm produces the best chemical quality of ground beef jerky. Keywords: Ground beef jerky, packaging method, storage life

Abstract

The objective of the research was to determine the effect of stocking density, feed type and feeding time on the growth and survival rate of juvenile whiteleg prawn (Penaeus vannamei) cultured in an extensive pond. A completely randomized design (CRD) was applied to a split-split plot design with three factor (stocking density as primary factor, feed type as sub-factor, and feeding time as sub-sub factor), giving 8 treatment combinations with 3 replicates (24 experimental units). Analysis of variance did not indicate any significant interaction between the effects of treatments on whiteleg prawn growth of any two or three factors (P > 0.05). Both stocking density (5 or 10 prawns/m3) and feed type (snails or corn) had a significant effect (P <0.05) on growth, while the effect of feeding time (day or night) was not significant (P > 0.05). Absolute growth of juvenile whiteleg prawn ranged from 2.16 to 7.03 g/prawn with a survival rate range of 60-100%.Keyword: whiteleg prawn, stocking density, feed type and feeding time.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of Lumbricus rubellus flour and Eucheuma cottonii flour on egg weight, consumption and feed conversion of laying hens. The material used in this study was a 48 week-old laying hen (productive egg laying), given additional L. rubellus flour and E. cottonii flour with different levels into basal feed. Complete Randomized Design Analysis (CRD) shows the positive effect of flours on egg weight, feed consumption and conversion to laying hens.
