Abstract

Several bacteria isolates obtained from paddy rice plants, banana plants, potato tubers, carrot tubers and soybean seeds were grown on NA, CPG and King’s B media for examination of their physiological characteristics using LOPAT test. The tests lead to the indication that each isolate was the species of bacteria that was known to cause disease on the corresponding plants. Hypersensitivity tests, however, showed that only banana and potato isolates were pathogenic on tobacco plants.Key words : LOPAT, bacteria, plant, hypersensitive.

Abstract

The aim of the research was to know about the morphology characters, live cycle, and behavioral of parasitoid Trichogramma spp. from Dolago. The research was conducted in May 2003 until October 2004. Spesimen got from field and observation was conducted in the laboratory.       The result indicated that the spesimen from Dolago Parigi-Moutong was Trichogramma japonicum Ashmead spesies.  The morphology characters were: male dan female was yellowish  chocolate, red eyes and black thorax. Length body of adult was 0,4 - 0,5 mm and widely head 0,17 – 0,21 mm. Antenna type of female was capitate and male was filiform. The fore wings have trichia Rs1 as much 7-10 and in the boundary of  wings growed some hairs. Long live of  pra-adult phase was  8,2 + 0,3 days, the adult phase was 1,8 + 0,7 days and the total was 10,0 + 0.8 days. The adult parasitoid emerged from host-egg by infiltrating khorion. Immediately after it out of the host-egg, the adult look for the couple and copulation as soon as he can. Pra-Oviposition activities by female to get              the compatible new host-egg. The Oviposition activities on the first day reach 15-30 times per female. On the second day, the oviposition activities remained  1-5 times or did not oviposition  at all, than the adult immediately died. Abstract

ABSTRACT The research aim was to study the growth of Dendrobium applied with various concentrations of super bionik fertilizer. The research conducted used a Randomized Block Design consisting of 6 treatments: without super bionik fertilizer, 1 ml super bionik fertilizer/l water, 2 ml super bionik fertilizer/l water, 3 ml super bionik fertilizer/l water, 4 super bionik fertilizer ml/l water, 4 ml super bionik fertilizer/l water, and super bionik fertilizer 5 ml/l water. Each treatment was replicated 3 times. Data were analyzed using ANOVA and HSD at 5 %. The research results showed that the application of super bionik fertilizer significantly increased plant height and leaf number but no significant effect on the number of buds. The application of super bionic fertilizer at concentration of 4 ml/l water showed greater plant height and number of leaf than the other concentrations.

Abstract

The addition of preservatives may result in better quality of silage.  This experiment was aimed to examine the effects of addition of preservative on dry matter and success percentage of Panicum sarmentosum silage. The preservative used were rice bran, corn bran and salt with composition of 50, 48 and 2%, respectively. The completely randomized design was employed in this experiment with 6 treatments and 3 replicates.  The treatments were addition of preservatives at concentation of 0, 7.5; 15; 22.5; 30 and 37.5% of the grass weight.  The parameters measured were dry matter content of the silage and the degree of the success of silage. The result showed that the concentation of addition of preservative influenced significantly dry matter and the percentage of the success of silage.  However, at concentation of 22.5% of the grass weight resulted in the highest dry matter and degree of success of Panicum sarmentosum silage. Date suggested that moderate concentation of the preservatives was sufficient to increase the dry matter content and the degree of success of Panicum sarmentosum silage. Abstract

The research aimed to determine sereh (Andropogon nardus) and dringo (Acorus calamus) leaf mash effects on the mortality of Sitophilus zeamais in storage corn seeds. The study used a Completely Randomized Block design with three replicates. The treatments consisted of 1 g sereh and dringo leaf mash, 2 g sereh and dringo leaf mash, 3 g sereh and dringo leaf mash, 4 g sereh and dringo leaf mash, 5 g sereh and dringo leaf mash, and control. The research results indicated that even at the lowest dosage (1 g sereh and dringo leaf mash), the mortality of the tested S. zeamais was quite high (22.50%).Key words : Sitophilus zeamais, sereh (Andropogon nardus), dringo (Acorus calamus)

Abstract

Broiler is one of animal food sources which is widely used as an alternative meat that much preferred by various community because it has a variety of benefits when compared to other sources of animal food.  Parigi District has several supermarkets and traditional markets that provide broiler meat for restaurant needs. This research aimed to determine the influencing factors of demand as well as broiler meat demand by restaurant consumers and restaurant itself in the District of Parigi. The research was conducted in September-November 2013. Sampling is applied with multilevel cluster sampling (incidental multistage sampling). The samples taken at 30 restaurants and 132 restaurant consumers and designed using the survey method. Analysis of data using descriptive analysis and multiple linear regression analysis. The results of the study showed that the average demand for broiler meat in the restaurant achieved 83.167 g or 83,2 kg/month and by restaurant consumers was 5,613 g/month or a total of 5,6 kg/month. Revenue of restaurant owners and the number of food consumers had positive effect on the broiler meat demand of restaurants in the District of Parigi Moutong. The price of meat food menu and others had negative influence on broiler meat demand by restaurant consumers, whereas the consumer income and the consumer spending per month had positive affected for broiler meat demand by restaurant consumers in the District of Parigi  Moutong.Keywords: broiler meat, demand, restaurant

Abstract

The research was aimed to examine the effect of papaya leaf powder in diets on feed consumption, weight gain and feed conversion ratio of broiler chicken. The research was conducted in Experimental Farm of Animal Science Department, Agriculture Faculty, Tadulako University.   A Completely Randomized Design (CRD) was applied in this research. The treatment consist of five treatments with six replicates: (i) basal diets; diets with 3% of papaya leaf powder; (ii) diets with 6% of papaya leaf powder; (iii) diets with 9% of papaya leaf powder; and (iv) diets with 12% of papaya leaf powder. Data was analyzed by variance analysis based on experimental design. Results showed significant effect (P < 0.05) on feed consumption, weight gain and feed conversion of broiler chicken. The best results from this experiment were found in the diets with 9% of papaya leaf powder. Key words: Broiler, feed consumption, papaya leaf powder, weight gain.

Abstract

The binahong leaves (Andredera cordifolia (Ten) Stennis) contains phytochemical compounds that have the potentialas feed additive. Itused as a supplementary ration that canimprovecarcassqualityofbroilers. The research aimed to study benefit of the binahong leaves powder as a feed additive towards carcass quality ofbroilers. This research was conductedin the farm of Faculty ofAnimal Husbandryand Fishery, Tadulako University, Palu. The used material of this study were 80 DOCbroiler chickens and were placed in an individual cage with a size of 100x 100 x 60 cm. The completely randomized design was applied with4 treatmentsand5replications.The tested treatments were 4 levels of binahong leaf powder mixed into the ration: R0 (ration without leaf powder binahong); R1 (ration with leaf powder binahong 0.5%); R2 (ration with leaf powder binahong 1%); and R3 (raation with leaf powder binahong 1,5%); The results ofvariance analysis showedthat theuse ofleaf powderbinahongasadditivein the ration had significant effect (P<0,05) to percentage of carcass, percentage of chestcarcass component, as well as  percentage of abdominal fat.The average percentage ofcarcassfor the treatmentR0(67,3%), R1 (68,3%), R2 (69,0%) and R3 (69,9%). The average percentage of chest carcass component for the treatment R0 (34,1%), R1 (34,5%), R2 (35,1%) and R3 (35,6%). The average percentage of abdominal fat for thetreatmentR0 (1,49%), R1 (1,46%), R2 (1,13%) and R3 (1,07%). It can be concludedthat theuse ofbinahongleaf powderup1.5% levelasfeedadditivein the rationresulted inthe best resultsonthe physicalquality ofbroilercarcasses.Keywords: abdominal fat,broiler, carcass, leafbinahong powder.

Abstract

The objective of this experiment was to determine effects of cocoa pod fermented with three different types of fungi on dry matter intake and nutrients digestibilities in male goat. This experiment was conducted at experimental house of Animal Husbandry Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Tadulako University between 1st January and 31st Maret 2010. A completely randomized block design with three experimental treatments and five replications was applied in this study. Results of variance analysis showed that fermentation of cocoa pod with three different types of fungi exhibited a highly significant effect (P<0.01) on the animals dry matter intake and total tract digestibilities of feed crude protein, crude fibre, nitrogen-free extracts, neutral detergent fibre, and hemicellulose. Cellulose digestibility, on the other hand, was not significantly affected by treatment (P>0.05). Animals fed with cocoa pod fermented with Aspergillus niger showed the highest feed intake dry matter, and total tract digestibility of feed crude fiber, nitrogen-free extracts, neutral detergent fibre, while the highest crude protein digestibility was found for cocoa pod fermented with Saccharomices sereviseae. In conclusion, fermentation of cocoa pod with fungi used in the present study increased feed digestibility, and hence it is recommended to use Aspergillus niger for fermenting the cocoa pod for use as an animal feed. Abstract

This study was aimed to determine the effect of additive typesas chemical composition onchemical composition of Mulato grass silage. The study lasted for 1 month and 3 days, in two phases, 21-days for ensilase process and 12-days for proximate analysis. The experimental design used was a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of 4 treatments and 5 replications. Such treatment includes: R0 (mulato grass + 0% additives), R1 (mulato grass + 5% rice bran), R2 (mulato  grass + 5% cassava waste) and R3 (mulato grass + 5% molasses). The parameters measured were the content of dry matter, organic matter, crude protein, crude lipid and crude fiber. Analysis of variance showed that the use of different additives was highly significant (P <0.01) on dry matter content, organic matter, crude protein, crude lipid and crude fiber Mulato grass silage. The addition of additives such as rice bran as much as 5% in the main grass silage made from mulato grass give the best effect to the nutrient content of 27.44% (dry matter), 88.63% (organic matter), 11.20% (crude protein), 3.53% (crude lipid) were highest of all treatments. The conclusion, use of types of additives as carbohydrates source (rice bran, cassava waste and molasses) produced mulato grass silage with better quality compared to control (without additive).  Keywords: Mulato grass, silage, Additives, rice bran, cassava waste, molasses.
