Abstract

Omid Safi is a professor of classical and contemporary Islamic studies in North America. His thought influences the contemporary Islamic discourses. It is progressive Muslims, which becomes a new paradigm after liberal Islam. Actually, both of these discourses are almost the same, but Safi tries to present progressive Muslims as a discourse different from liberal Islam. Later, Safi’s concept of progressive Muslims can inspire many Muslim scholars in the West. This study concludes that according to Omid Safi, progressive Muslims come from the spirit of renewal Islam and response to modernity. But after research and comparison from many aspects, progressive Muslims are doing a progressive ijtihad and interpretation to show the humanist Islam and tolerant for social issues by engaging both of tradition and modernity as the main characters. The researcher finally concludes that this discourse is redefining Islam in the manner as other several contemporary Islamic discourses, like liberal Islam and neo-modernism did.

Abstract

Pengaruh Teori Psikoanalisa Sigmund Freud dalam kajian psikologi modern cukup dominan mewarnai ilmu pengetahuan secara umum yang berbicara tentang manusia, seperti kedokteran, filsafat, agama, seni, sastra, antropologi, maupun politik. Padahal teori-teori Freud tentang konsep manusia, yang menjadi basis utama dalam mengkaji prilaku dan kejiwaan manusia, sangat dipengaruhi oleh doktrin ateisme yang dianutnya. Kondisi ini tentu sangat memprihatinkan. Sebab, ketika psikologi semacam ini diajarkan dan diyakini oleh umat Islam yang belum sadar terhadap paradigma psikologi modern, maka akan menjadi masalah. Padahal doktrin-doktrin di dalamnya sangat bertentangan dengan ajaran Islam. Sementara itu, kajian-kajian ilmuwan Muslim kontemporer mengenai hal ini belum banyak mewarnai. Oleh karena itu,sangat diperlukan kajian mendalam mengenai ilmu psikologi yang berbasis pandangan hidup Islam, sehingga ditemukan konsep manusia yang utuh dan islami. Tulisan ini mencoba mengkaji permasalahan psikologi melalui kajian tematis-analitis terhadap teks-teks al-Qur’an dan al-Hadits. Sebagai perbandingan, kajian dimulai dengan mengungkap konsep manusia menurut Psikoanalisa Sigmund Freud, kemudian disusul pembahasan tentang struktur psikis manusia menurut Islam.

Abstract

Discussion about harmony can not be separated from the discussion of plurality. Plurality or diversity is a fact that must be faced for all communities and reigious people. Each religion has its own experience and the typical way in addressing the plurality. Western Christian society also have a typical story in the face of plurality around them. Cruelty that came from the Church, caused and affected their own experience of looking at something, as well as looking at the plurality and harmony. Surprisingly, this Western worldview plagiarized by the liberal Muslims. Finally, the concepts of harmony in Islam that should be tawhidi based on al-Quran and al-Sunnah turned into a secular by ruling out both. This article explores the stages through by the Western Christian societies in responding the plurality to build harmony. It is important to be clear how the Muslim community should be, whether to follow the ways of the or to explore directly the basic sources of religion, al-Quran and al-Hadith.

Abstract

This paper will research the content of al-Qur'an by finding some correlations between the arrangement of words, sentences and verses with 'ilm al-muna>sabah, so it will clarify the meaning contained therein. 'Ilm al-muna>sabah has an important role in studying interpretation of al-Qur'an. Over time, most of the orientalists and Muslim liberals want to deconstruct the content of al-Qur'an. They spread negative assumptions, that the verses of al-Qur’an and its chapters are not systematic. According to them, it is because the verses of al-Qur’an and its chapters are incompatible with systematic scientific writing, and the displacement of a group of verses to another group has not been synchron. Based on this reason, Ibnu Asyur tries to apply 'ilm al-muna>sabah to interpret al-Qur'an to show maqa>s}id al-Qur’a>n. Then he also proved that the non-systematic al-Qur'an had become one of i'jaz al-Qur'a>n. If the way how Ibnu Asyur analyzed 'ilm al-muna>sabah is observed deeply, it is known that he used 'ilm al-dala>lah (semantics) as his methodological approach, although it is not mentioned in his methodology of interpretation. In al-Fa>tih}ah, for example, he describes their editorial harmony between one verse to another. Abstract

Interreligious marriage, especially in Indonesia, could make, a hard polemic in a society. It, In a beginning, was a social issue. But, suddenly, become an intellectual one. This issue, ussualy, comes from intelectual liberal Muslim. They build, in understanding Islamic law, especialy in a interreligious marriage, a contextual approach. It, so that, makes a anthropocentric thought and disobeying a vallue, in Islamic worldview. Hence, I would, as a writter, review reductionic arguments of intelectual liberal Muslim which was justified as freedom of interreligious marriage. I will, to achieve it, refiew their argumen and explain their inconsistent  in istinba>t} al-ah}ka>m. The result of this is discovered that interreligious marriage is rulled by Muslim or man in Islam who marries a woman of ahl kitab which is leaned to Islam and good moral. And not in otherwise. And the other result of this is known that marriage of sahabat by woman of ahl al kitab is enticed to Islamic teaching. So that interreligious marriage in Islam is not, as it claimed by the liberal Muslim, an antroposentic view but it is valuable by Islamic worldview.

Abstract

Sebagai saluran ilmu pengetahuan, khabar s}a>diq sangat diakui dalam Islam. Selain tiga saluran yang lain yaitu, pancaindra, akal, dan intuisi, khabar s}a>diq juga menjadi asas penting dalam epistemologi Islam. Ia menjadikan ilmu pengetahuan dalam Islam muncul, tumbuh, dan berkembang hingga saat ini. Karena perannya sebagai metode transmisi ilmu inilah, al-Qur’an dan al-Hadis menjadi terjaga keasliannya hingga saat ini, dan tidak terjadi perubahan sedikit pun. Berbeda dengan Islam, Barat hanya menjadikan indra dan akal sebagai asas epistemologi mereka. Hal ini berdampak pada ketidakpercayaan mereka terhadap hal-hal yang metafisik, semua haruslah nyata, dapat dilihat, dan diakal. Mereka akhirnya menjadi ragu terhadap keaslian kitab suci. Keraguan ini juga diterapkan terhadap al-Qur’an. Padahal, al-Qur’an berbeda dengan kitab suci yang lain dalam pengambilan sumber berita (wahyu). Tulisan ini akan menjawab asumsi yang menafikan berita yang benar (khabar s}a>diq) sebagai metode transmisi ilmu pengetahuan dalam Islam. Juga membuktikan bahwa khabar s}a>diq merupakan sumber ilmu pengetahuan yang dapat dipertanggungjawabkan.

Abstract

The discussion about wali presented in the early time on the hand of al-Hakim al Tirmidzi, which reaps number of responses from Muslim scholar because of his misleading. One of them is Ibn Taimiyyah. Al-Hakim and Ibn Taymiyyah have their own view about wali with several distinctions. In the definition of wali, al-Hakim al-Tirmidzi used more general language than Ibn Taimiyyah, as well as characteristics, how to be wali, the classification, concept of karamah, and the concept of khatm al-awliya’. According to writer, al-Hakim al-Tirmidzi’s view about wali able to deepen our understanding about Sufism, meanwhile Ibn Taimiyyah’s view will led us to comprehend Sufism from modernist point of view. This paper conclude that: both of figures seen that wali of Allah are the servants submissive and obedient in running His command; according to al-Hakim al Tirmidzi, degree of wali can be reached purely from Allah’s bounty and the effort of servants themselves, while Ibn Taimiyyah seen that the degree could be reached in the way of faith and piety of the servant; al-Hakim al-Tirmidzi seen that karamah is the most urgent for wali, while Ibn Taimiyyah did not; al-Hakim al-Tirmidzi utilized the quality of deeds to measure the best people and purity of heart to measure the best wali, while Ibn Taymiyyah utilized the quality of deeds as the assessment standard to measure best people and wali.

Abstract

This article tries to discuss the discourse of the necessity of the application of the hermeneutic method in Qur’anic studies with the theory of interpretation ma’nā-cum-maghzā offered by Muslim scholars in Yogyakarta. In conclusion, the efforts of the initiators of the hermeneutic of the Qur’an to make hermeneutics be one approach and partners in the study of the Qur’an is an effort that needs to be appreciated, and the goal is to develop Islamic Studies (particularly the study of the Quran). The interpretation of the Qur’an with the theory ma’nā-cum-maghzā , is a method of interpretation of the results of elaboration. If this theory is applied in the interpretation of the Qur’an, it will produce a relative interpretation, or tentative interpretation, and dynamic one that always demands a change in accordance with the age, social and cultural backgrounds. Its implication is no final interpretation. So, Muslims will not ever understand absolutely the truth of the content in Qur’an, because it is dynamic and constantly changing. However, taking into account the assumptions and implications, hermeneutics is not appropriate to be applied in the study of the Qur’an. If it applied to interpret the Qur’an, then it will lead to confusions and doubts. This is because it departed from skepticism and relativism, equating the Qur’anic text as plain texts, requiring uncertainty meanings and relative-tentative interpretations.

Abstract

This paper will discuss the problem of Trinity as a doctrine that underlies the faith of ‎Christianity. It is considered as a delusion theological doctrine which is both ambiguous and ‎compelled. Al-Qur’an criticizes the confusion of Trinity as a doctrinal astray of human ‎invention possessing no basis from Allah and it has triggered major conflicts within the ‎Christianity itself. The confusion of Trinity willl be revealed through the method on historical criticism based on Qur’anic and Biblical Studies the ‎confusion of Trinity is revealed. There are at least two aspects of the fallacy possessed by ‎Trinity: Political aspect and the abberation of Christianity religious teachings. Moreover, there ‎is an identical proof regarding the political interests of the Roman Emperor Constantine ‎influencing the formulation of Trinity at Nicaea Council 325 C.E. The influence was an ‎invasion of polytheism and paganism into Trinity confusing the elements of monotheism and ‎polytheism. The distortion of religious teachings in Trinity is the presence of teachings of Jesus ‎Christ  concerning an obligation to worship hm as God, while it does not exist in Gospel. The ‎doctrine of Jesus divinity came from Paul. It precisely deviated monotheism principle. ‎Consequently, there was a conflict in Christianity schools in respect to Trinity since that era up ‎to the present day.‎

Abstract

In perspective of Postmodern West, thought discourses always colored by relativism, equality, nihilism, and reconstruction. This discourses of thought, cannot be separated from the profane Western worldview, which formed during the several hundred years of experience theological, sociological, and historical of West. Nowadays –Postmodern- worldview became the foundation for providing responses to the phenomenon that exist in the West, including feminism and gender. Islam, such as din and ideology is conceptually also obligated to set up the concept of worldview projected by texts in the form of the Quran and al-Hadith. Both this primary source of Islam derived concepts about God, Nature, Science, Mind, Soul, and so forth as a spectrum set of Muslims viewpoints in doing things. Related here, Islamic worldview is necessary to observe, analyze, to the stage critiquing feminism and gender discourse that is a product of western Worldview. Islamic Worldview demanded to review and response proportionally to discourses of western Worldview which has difference with Islam conceptually.
