Abstract

Hard candy is a non-crystalline product with a hard texture, shiny appearance and clear cooked at high temperature (140-150°C). One of the main ingredients in making hard candy is sucrose which can accelerate the growth of Streptococcus mutans bacteria, the main cause of dental caries. Thus, researchers conducted a study making sucrose-free hard candy ginger extract products using fructose and glucose syrup as sugar substitutes (sucrose) which are expected to inhibit the growth of Streptococcus mutans bacteria. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the ratio of fructose and glucose on the characteristics of sucrose-free hard candy, ginger extract (Zingiber officinale Rosc.) and find out the best formula in making sucrose-free hard candy, ginger extract (Zingiber officinale Rosc.) based on sensory tests. This research method uses Non-Factorial Complete Randomized Design (RAL). The study parameters include Ph, dissolving time, sensory, RGB color, and antibacterial. The effect of the ratio of fructose and glucose on the characteristics of sucrose-free hard candy ginger extract (Zingiber officinale Rosc.) is that the less fructose added and the more glucose, the higher the Ph of the candy, the longer the soluble time, the brighter color produced and the weaker the inhibitory power. Based on the results of sensory tests, it can be concluded that the best formulation in making sucrose-free hard candy ginger extract (Zingiber officinale Rosc.) is formula 3 with a ratio of glucose and fructose of 80:30 grams.

Abstract

Ideally, the Pak Choy plant (Brassica Chinensis L) is cultivated with microenvironmental conditions of temperature 150C- 320C, humidity 60% - 80% and the same intensity of sunlight as other vegetable plants, namely in a vegetative vase of 300-400 micromols/m2/second and a period of generative 500-1000 micromols/m2/sec . The challenge of agriculture today is to meet the increasing need for food with limited land and uncertain plant microenvironmental conditions, one solution to this problem is planting using a plant factory system. Fuzzy logic has an effective method for controlling plant factory control systems, due to its flexibility and simple calculations. The purpose of this research is to find the PWM value in the plant factory control system that suits the optimal needs of pak choy vegetable cultivation. There are 4 stages in the research, namely the primary data input of the LED plant factory, Fuzzyfication, Fuzzy Interface System and Defuzzification. Data was taken using a lux meter and there were a total of 56 fuzzy rules and 4 fuzzy rules that did not have a value of 0. The lighting level/light intensity control system based on fuzzy logic was obtained with a PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) value of 872.1662 for a light intensity set point of 8000 Lux.

Abstract

Plastic waste is a significant environmental concern, constituting a major portion of the global waste stream. Improper disposal and accumulation have led to severe environmental challenges, including pollution, harm to marine life, and contributions to climate change. Effective waste management strategies are essential to mitigate these issues. However, manual sorting methods are both time-consuming and costly, requiring substantial human effort and financial investment. To address these limitations, automated solutions utilizing advanced technologies like artificial intelligence have gained increasing attention. Deep learning-based method can automatically identify and classify various types of plastic waste using computer-captured image patterns. This study explores the application of ResNet50, a state-of-the-art deep learning model, for the classification of plastic and non-plastic waste. A robust dataset comprising 4,000 diverse images of waste materials was employed for model training and validation. ResNet50, with its advanced architecture designed for image recognition tasks, demonstrated exceptional performance, achieving an accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score of 0.99. These results highlight the model’s ability to precisely and reliably differentiate between plastic and non-plastic waste categories. The findings of this research underscore the potential of deep learning-based approaches in revolutionizing waste management practices. By leveraging automated classification methods, waste sorting can become significantly faster, more accurate, and cost-effective. This has far-reaching implications reducing environmental harm and fostering a more sustainable future. The results demonstrate that integrating AI technologies into waste management systems can lead to efficient and environmentally friendly solutions for tackling plastic waste challenges.

Abstract

Chilli pepper (Capsicum frutescens L) is an important horticulture in Indonesia. High demand often did not meet the production. One of the leading factors is the quality and bad seed conditions, which affect plant growth and production. This research was conducted from February to May 2024 in the research field and laboratory of Plant Breeding and Biotechnology, Agroecotechnology Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Trunojoyo Madura. The research aim was to determine the effect of gibberellin concentrations and varieties on the germination and plant growth of chili peppers. Factorial randomized Block Design (RBD) was used in this research with gibberellin as the first factor G0 (0 ppm), G1 (1.07 ppm), G2 (1.10 ppm), G3 (1.23 PPM), and the second factor was varieties including V1 (Bhaskara), V2 (Master), V3 (Viral). The data obtained from this experiment was analyzed with analysis of variance (ANOVA) at a 5% level of confidence, and if there were significant differences, the Duncan multiple range test (DMRT) was performed. This experiment showed that G0 and V1 had the best responses to germination and plant growth compared to the other treatments. Furthermore, this showed that gibberellin, the range of treatments, is still ineffective in increasing the germination ability and the growth of chili peppers.
