Abstract

Orthodontic is one of the dental treatment that has a purpose to repair the position of teeth. For patient who wears fixed orthodontic appliance will have an enhancement of accumulation of plaque which caused by the diffulty of removing the plaque it self, with the result that higher risk of gingivitis may occur in patient using fixed orthodontic appliance. The purpose of this study is to give an overview of gingivitis in first year students of medical and health faculty who used fixed orthodontic appliance. Statistic method which is applied to analyze this study is descriptive data analysis test method. Index measurement that is used in this study is gingiva Loe and Silness Index (Gingivval Index). The result from this study is 89% of student who used fixed orthodontic appliance having lower risk of gingivitis criteria.

Abstract

Smoking habit is a health problem that is found globally. Indonesia has the largest number of active smokers, reaching 65 million people. Fisherman is one of the occupation in Indonesia which have the largest proportion of active smokers, almost 44,5% compared to other occupation. Smoking habit triggers pathological conditions in the oral cavity. Smoking cause an inflammation of the palatal mucosa named nicotine stomatitis. The purpose was to determine the prevalence of nicotine stomatitis in fisherman at Puger Kulon and to find out the correlation between age, type of cigarette, the intensity of smoking and the incident of nicotine stomatitis in fisherman. Data were collected by interview with 301 respondents. Purposive sampling was used in this study. The chi- square test was used to examine the correlation between age, type of cigarette and the intensity of smoking with the incident of nicotine stomatitis. The prevalence of nicotine stomatitis in fisherman at Puger Kulon Village is 5.3% and age, type of cigarette, and intensity of smoking did not have a significant correlation to the incident of nicotine stomatitis in fisherman at Puger Kulon Village Puger District Jember Regency.

Abstract

BPA is a synthetic material that widely used in basic material of PVC making. PVC is needed in production of household appliances, food container, mineral water bottles, feeding bottles and dental sealant. BPA is known as one of EDCs which have an effect to increase insulin levels on blood. Furthermore, BPA could lead to DMT2. The objective was to determine the effect of BPA on blood insulin levels in adult male wistar rats. 18 male wistar rats were divided into 3 groups. BPA solution was made by dissolve 20 mg/kgBB crystal BPA into corn oil. Group 1 (K1) not given any treatment and dissected in day-0. Group 2 (K2) given aquadest treatment orally for 28 days and dissected in day-29. Group 3 (P) given BPA solution treatment orally for 28 days and dissected in day-29. The treatment given once a day on 09.00 AM. The blood collected after 12 hours fasting. Blood collecting procedure done with the rats were anasthetized first with eter 10% through inhalation and then dissect the rats until the heart is exposed. Blood was collected from the heart for 3 ml and were sentrifugated to get the serum. Insulin examination done by ELISA on serum that has been collected. Data were analyzed by One Way Anova test and Post hoc Test LSD. BPA with 20 mg/kgBB dose increasing blood serum insulin levels on adult male wistar rats by 1,38 mIU/L.

Abstract

Dentinogenesis imperfecta is the one of most common hereditary disorder of dentin formation, especially at histodifferentiation stage. It reported have to an incidences of 1 in 8000. Dentinogenesis imperfecta is an autosomal dominant, affecting both the formation and mineralizatin of dentin. CASE: A 20-year-old female patient came to integrasi A RSGMP UNSOED with crown fracture of anterior teeth 11, after eating a solid food. A permanent filling was conducted on 21 with the same cause one year ago. Intraoral examination showed attrition, yellowish and translucent on both maxillary and mandibullary teeths. Radiography showed that obliterated pulp chamber and shrinked root canal. Porcelain fused to metal crown was planned for this case. Conclusion: Dentinogenesis imperfecta is a hereditary disorder of tooth development. It caused the teeth to be discoloured (blue-grey or yellow-brown color), and fragile. Treatment planning for patient with dentinogenesis imperfecta is restorative treatment that can be apply to deciduous or permanent teeth, because exposed dentin will increase the risk of caries and infection.

Abstract

Monocytes response against bacterial exotoxins can cause cell damage, due to the production of antimicrobial compounds such as oxidants and free radicals. Spray dryed robusta coffee brewed contained antioxidants that was alleged to be able counteract oxidants and free radicals leading to prevent cell damage. This research aimed to prove the effect of spray dryed robusta coffee brew (SDRCB) to increase monocytes viability after being exposed by exotoxins of Streptococcus mutans (in vitro). This in vitro experimental study used the post test only control group design. The object of study was human peripheral blood monocytes, isolated by means of gradient centrifugation method. Monocyte viability was analyzed by trypan blue assay. The parameter was the percentage viable monocytes. Data were analyzed using Anova and LSD. Monocytes incubated with SDRCB showed a significant (p<05) higher viability (96.95%) than monocytes without SDRCB (94,27%). Spray dryed robusta coffee brew proved to be able increase viability of monocytes after S.mutans exposure (in vitro).

Abstract

Red dragon fruit flesh extract contains of anthocyanin as red pigmen that potentially to be a natural dye. Athocyanin contains of polysaccharide that can binding with polysaccharide of dental plaque called hydrogen bonds, so dental plaque has been colored and potentially as alternative of disclosing solution. The purpose of this study was to find out the difference of plaque index after smeared by red dragon fruit flesh extract 75% and disclosing solution. The method of this study is a clinical experimental study with a static-group comparison design. 20 subjects were examined the plaque index after smeared with red dragon fruit flesh extract 75%) and disclosing solution). There was no significant difference between groups. Conclusions: Red dragon fruit flesh extract 75% had similar capability with disclosing solution to examine dental plaque.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disease in which blood sugar levels are abnormally because the body does not produce enough insulin (type 1) and insulin deficiency (type II). The condition of diabetes can worsen the periodontal tissue. Purpose of this case report is to explain the characteristics, oral manifestations and dental management of patients with diabetes. A 53-year-old request to made aartificial denture. Intraoral examination presented loss of teeth 35, 36, 37, 46, 47 and dental roots 23, 24, 27, 38, 48. Patients have a history of diabetes with Metformin 500 mg oral therapy and have consumed it since 2016. The treatment plan is education, plaque control with supragingival scaling then extraction of the roots dental and making of removable partial dentures. Based on the results of lab tests showed blood glucose levels in October 177 mg / dl. Patients were instructed to maintain oral hygiene with mouthwash prescriptions and to continue diabetes treatment. Dental care in patients with diabetes must consider various things such as the patient's condition, stress reduction, dietary modifications, prophylactic medications, and routine monitoring of blood glucose levels
