Abstract

This study investigates the role and sustainability of traditional media in Islamic religious practices in Langsa City, Aceh, amidst the pressures of modernization and digital media penetration. It aims to understand the functions, challenges, and adaptation strategies of traditional media, as well as intergenerational community perceptions towards it. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with 15 key informants, participatory observation, focus group discussions (FGDs), and document studies, and then analyzed thematically. The findings reveal that traditional media (such as Meugang, Seudati Dance, and Saman) continue to play a central role as a means of religious expression, cultural communication, and strengthening social cohesion. However, their sustainability faces serious challenges, including a decline in regeneration among young practitioners, weak policy support, and competition with digital media. In response, communities have developed adaptation strategies such as content digitization and integration into education, although this raises dilemmas between preserving authenticity and commodification. The study concludes that the continuity of traditional media depends on contextual adaptive abilities that blend local values with innovations in format and medium. These findings contribute to the studies of cultural communication and media ecology and recommend the need for supportive policies, cultural education, and a gender-inclusive approach for revitalization. Further research with a broader ethnographic scope is suggested.

Abstract

The Kaaba Mosque in Mulyoharjo, Jepara, is unique because its design resembles the Kaaba in Mecca. Therefore, in addition to being a place of worship, it has also developed as a religious tourism destination that attracts public attention. This condition demands an appropriate management strategy so that the main function of the mosque as a centre of worship is maintained while being able to provide benefits to worshippers and tourists. This study aims to describe the management strategy of the Kaaba Mosque as a religious tourism destination by emphasizing the balance between religious, social, and tourism aspects. The research method used is qualitative with a descriptive approach, namely by describing the conditions that occur in the field (field research), data collection through interviews, observation, and documentation. Data analysis was carried out through the process of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions, while data validity was obtained through triangulation and discussions with related parties. The results of the study indicate that the management of the Kaaba Mosque is carried out through organizing religious activities that maintain the solemnity of worship, managing services to worshippers and tourists that emphasize comfort and educational value, and empowering the surrounding community to support the sustainability of religious tourism.

Abstract

This study examines the story of Prophet Musa and Prophet Harun ‘alayhimā as-salām in the Qur'an using a thematic exegesis (tafsīr maudhū‘ī) approach, focusing on its implications for the paradigm of collaborative da'wah in Islam. Prophetic missions often face significant challenges, both external—such as societal rejection—and internal, including individual limitations. In this context, the Qur'an presents the complementary roles of Musa as the primary leader and Harun as his supportive companion. Relevant verses such as Sūrat Ṭāhā [20]: 29–36 and Sūrat al-Qaṣaṣ [28]: 34 reveal that Musa’s request for Harun’s companionship had strategic and theological grounds. This study highlights that their collaboration was not merely supplementary but rather an integral element of the da'wah’s success. Through the analysis of classical and contemporary tafsīr literature, the research finds that synergy, mutual support, and clear role distribution are essential principles in effective collaborative da'wah. The findings of this research aim to enrich contemporary Islamic da'wah discourse by offering a prophetic model of cooperation that remains relevant and applicable amid modern challenges.

Abstract

This study examines how urban da’wah events shape religious experience through ritual processes infused with liminal atmospheres. The study focuses on Bandung as a social landscape that is both creative and deeply religious, where various religious events are organized by communities, mosque administrators, and event organizers. Using a phenomenological approach through in-depth interviews and observation, the research finds that da’wah events function not only as arenas of religious communication but also develop into episodic rituals. Participants step away from their daily routines, enter an in-between space filled with symbols and collective energy, and return to everyday life carrying renewed spiritual meaning. This process illustrates how urban da’wah adopts a ritual structure that binds identity, fosters communitas, and links religious expression with the cultural dynamics of the city.
